I was so happy when I learned they had actual native dancers and performers for this show. They could have easily have just hired anyone and taught them the dances, but they chose to keep it within the tribes. It makes it that much more special because of it.

The amazing thing is that Cirque actually reached out the dancer (his name is Eric and he posts videos on his channel Cirquelife) as he had posted a video of himself doing a traditional hoop dance on RUclips.

Erik seemed kind of off and it looked like the fur anklets was kind of hindering his performance. It started when he tried to pick the 1st hoop it looked like it caught on the anklet and he was not able to recover his energy. He usually has a faster paced act and it seemed he cut it short and he just could not recover his pace after that 1st catch. Really folks I have seen Erik dance many times and many places and this one was off . He still did very well sometimes as an artist is something goes alittle off like the hoop catching on the anklet, it can get into your mind and your concentration breaks and it seems like he slowed the dance down to compensate for the anklet and too make sure the rest of his performance went without any mistakes. Like I said he is one of the top hoop dancers and teachers
of the dance I just think he was hindered by the fur anklet and wanted to make sure there were no big mishaps so he slowed the pace . I do hope is was feeling ok...

His leggings are what most powwow dancers wear...maybe it's part of the challenge of the dance...that is to dance flawlessly while in full regalia....some regalia is very heavy as well....if you can wear it while still keeping in step, then you are a good dancer....just what I learned growing up on the powwow trail...I could be wrong.

I saw this show twice (well, one and a half since I had to leave the first time to go to the hospital) and each time the hoop dancer was a different person. One show was male, the next was female.

this was actually a dance that native americans did WAYYYY before civilisation in todays USA. the dance is very very complex. in alegria for instance they had a tiki fire dancer if you are that ignorant.
