There's a few versions of Das Boot. I bought the DVDs (split into 2 parts) of this long ago and both the original German language and the English dub versions are good. The main character does the voice for both; he speaks both languages fluently. For some reason, the English dub has a lot of the sexual innuendo replaced. This is the only major difference. The "Uncut" version on RUclips Movies isn't uncut - technically. After the initial theatrical cut, there was was a three part TV BBC mini-series version with a runtime of about 50 minutes, 1 hour 40, and 50 minutes respectively. So, there's another hour of footage I've never seen. Still, the movie cut does not feel incomplete - both the original theatrical and the director's cut.
This is a shocking list. How The Professional is not even in the top 10 belies a complete lack of movie knowledge. The Professional is one of the top 10 movies OF ALL TIME on most critic lists.
I still think RUclips movies are a hidden gem most people don't know about. If you're a Premium member, they're ad free. Some of these movies like the Poseidon Adventure aren't streaming anywhere else. Thanks for this great list!
I'm not ad-free, so 1) how frequently do they break up the movie with an ad-break 2) how long are the ad-breaks 3) in either version, is the youtube logo on the screen while the movie is playing? I probably can't complain if a movie is free (well, I'd still complain because I don't like the practice) if they slap their logo on the screen, but if I am paying for "premium" then, yeah, I'd expect a clean screen as if I was in a theater or when I watch netflix, amazon, paramount+( this I watch on my pc with my 'shields' up) on my tv. I have the first 2 as ad-free.
I am premium now but when i wasn't meh the ads in a movie werent bad like 3 or 4 for a full movie length so like every 25, 30 minutes and they arent too long @@bikeny
@@bikenyIt's a free movie. What stops you from trying to watch one and answering your own questions? Or being dumb and annoying is just the thing that you do?
The Poseidon Adventure is the first movie I saw in the drive-in. It was paired with another feature about a bathysphere that is lost in a portion of the ocean with giant sea creatures. I used to think it was called Deep Star Six but that turned out to be a different film. Maybe something from Bert I. Gordon? I’m sure it wasn’t a good movie but I loved seeing giant sea anemones and whatnot as a seven year old.
Das Boots used to come on late night all the time. Miami Vice (see the full list) is based on the TV show and it’s really good. They even use In the Air Tonight in the credits. Donnie Darko and the Firm are also great. A lot of great movies on this list. I might watch Limitless.
I would like to add "Heavy Trip" to this list. It's a Finnish comedy about a young extreme metal band. Think, "This is Spinal Tap", meets "Air Heads", meets "Blues Brothers".
I saw 9 in the theatre and I loved it. I know I watched American Hustle but really don't remember much about it. Also, I can't believe people still say Das Boot as boot, something you wear on your foot. The English word "a boat" has the same pronunciation as the Deutsch word "das boot". 😀 And yes, I used to boot, until I studied Deutsch (German).
I've only watched perhaps a half dozen movies on RUclips, but my experience has been that they seem to be missing material. I watched Homefront on RUclips, and I'm pretty sure about half of the final fight scene was just gone.
I thought 'Captive State' was a surprisingly intelligent movie and script that became more and more captivating as it progressed, I do like something with a little more substance than the average fair, don't expect flashy special effects but do expect a good plot and delivery.
How good is the audio on the YT Das Boot? When i first played the dvd on a dolby 5.1 surround sound system, i was stunned by the sound effects. In one scene you actually hear the destroyer's propeller in the distance, getting closer and closer, then fade away. Best use of surround sound ever.
American Hustle - I walked out of the theater saying it was a masterpiece. The three people I saw it with either thought it was boring, or worse, thought it was terrible movie. Flick Connections description was, as usual, spot on: it's complicated, but don't sweat that... enjoying the movie is about enjoying these characters. Exactly as he said, if you "tap into" it and get into the "flavor", the low-key humor of it all is just awesome. And if it isn't working for you after watching a bit of it, just go watch something else. There's no mere liking this movie - you'll either love it, or you'll consider it a boring & confusing waste of time.

RUclips has a surprisingly good line-up of movies. "Regarding Henry" is great. The opening music to "My Name Is Nobody" is abysmal, but after the first few minutes it's a good western starring Henry Fonda and Terrence Stamp with a unique premise. "Blind Fury", starring Rutger Hauer, is about a blind samurai. It's a bit cheesy, but has some great fight scenes. "The Man Who Knew Too Little" and "Quick Change" are two under-rated Bill Murray movies. For fans of Jackie Chan, "Mr. Nice Guy" is a great australian film. "Inside Moves" is a John Savage film about a man who's crippled while trying to commit suicide and his path back to life. Finally, "Mean Guns" has absolutely terrible film quality, but it's a fun battle royale romp. There's a slightly better looking version on Tubi, but it's still pretty grainy.
