I live in Kentucky, and I remember when I was a kid, a guy got shot for poaching ginseng. Poaching used to be a big problem here, and probably still is. Guys would find wild ginseng growing on their property, but the wouldn't necessarily pick it right away, sometimes letting it continue to grow for 10 years so that it would increase in value. That's why people get shot when they try to poach it. Imagine sitting on a nest egg for 10 years just to find it was stolen.

@@Ass_of_Amalek I have no idea. I know we have hills covered in forests, the largest cave system in the US, and mountains. Perhaps that has something to do with it. We have very old railroads here, so it's possible the Chinese workers brought it over when the rails were being built and it turned out to be the right ecosystem for it.

Here in the USA, a friend told me he was gonna plant thousands of ginseng seeds in the woods and go back a few years later to harvest them. I said, "Yeah, that'll work, that stuff grows better in the wild than on farms," and jokingly said not to forget where he planted them. I had no idea that "imitation wild ginseng" was a thing, I guess my friend must have known. Interesting fact about ginseng, those dried roots they sell can be rehydrated and grown years later, I read that but got the opportunity to prove it true when someone went to China, and came back and gave me one of those gift boxes that's got like 4 or 5 dried ginseng roots in it. No idea if it was wild or farmed or what they spent, but I soaked one and it grew a plant! I think that's actually why they started thinking it could cure disease and slow aging, because they were able to revive and grow ginseng from roots that were very old.

In Korea, ginseng have many classification. There are 2 varieties of ginseng which are San Sam(meaning mountain ginseng which is wild form) and In Sam(meaning human-shaped ginseng which is cultivation form). And there are 3 kinds of SanSam which are perfectly wild, sawing by human growing in wild, and cultivation. Wild form and growing perfectly wild is most expensive.

Yes, we are classified the same except we have a wild simulated class that is man planted, but naturally grown in the mountain forrests. I plant 10 pound of seed every year in natural settings and still have very few big natural plants. It is a difficult plant to work with, and the reason why natural ginseng is so valuable. It is my hobby, provides enough for me and my yobo, and I love being in the forrest. We do have poachers that tresspass and steal it, but in America we have guns.

The US use to sell a lot of wild ginseng but the ginseng farm states pressured the states that sold wild to require licenses close to 40 years ago. That stopped the person from hunting it. Selling wild ginseng was not a drop on those states GDP so no one cared. That caused the loss of all the old timers secret growing spots as they were not passed on. Wild hunters that I learned from were vary careful to keep the crop growing.

wild ginseng usually sells for 580.00 for a dry pound. it takes 3.5 wet (fresh) pounds of roots to dry to down to 1 pound of dry sellable roots. i have been digging and growing ginseng for about 44 years. a lot of what i saw in the video has a large amount of elasticity in my opinion. it is fun to hunt but is also getting much more difficult to find in the wild. you must plant your seed. a mature plant may product up to 50 or so seeds a year so planting the seed really helps to keep it growing in the wild. it takes 8 to 10 years in the wild to produce a favorable size root. i have plants that i planted the seed for 35 years ago.

The worlds first consumption of ginseng came from Korean ginseng. Even Chinese medical texts write that (Goryeo) Korean ginseng is the highest quality of all ginsengs. Koreans dont even consider other ginseng that isnt from Korea or Manchuria as medicinal. And Chinese+Japanese consider ginseng from the Korean/Manchu region as the best still. The only reason why Americans harvest ginseng in the first place is because Korean ginseng became too expensive and over-harvested through the ages- and there was a cheaper but lesser quality ginseng found in virgin lands elsewhere.

Farming ginseng is also extremely difficult due to soil toxicity build-up (yes they are medicinal herbs thuse they ends up with getting killed by its own substance.) and annoying fungi infesting the soil. It is nearly impossible to grow ginseng more than 6 consequtive year, and after one batch of farming, you cannot use that soil ever again. Solution to this, is diging out entire soil of ginseng farmground and autoclaving it, which will destroy all the materials that contaminates soil including disgusting fungus infestion and ginseng's own plant toxicitiy.
Most of 'medicinal' plants even including coffee tree produces variety of self-protective substances which is useful for human and plant's own, but after continued farming, they end up with contaminating soil with all those molecules that are now concentrated enough to be toxic for plant, ending up with killing them.

I started taking Korean ginsing back in the late 70s when I was 15 and even more so when I was 18 and rollerskating and going out wilh many girls. Ginsing is a natural male energy stimulant and back then I would work from 6am to 5pm then get home and drive to the roler skating rink and skate for 4 hours doing dance and artistic partner skating, then take home atleast 1 to 3 girlfriends depending on the day as I had 6 perminant girlfriends that all knew each other and sheared time with me. Ginsing gave me the strength to handel the situations without stress of loss of energy. I would get home most nights around 3am sleep for 2 hours and be ready to go back to work around 5.30am 6 days a week. I did this for many years untill I finally got married but Ginsing allowed me to be able to work 18 hours a day 6+ days a week. Now at 62 ginsing no longer works well as I had far to much of it when I was young.
Ginsing is ment for later life, so a man can feel strong with his partner or partners.
I wish I did more study on Ginsing when I was younger but am still very impressed with what ginsing helped me physicly do and still am capable of due to this wonderfull herb.

I found a very clever way to grow strong and ultrapure ginseng in Europe. They use hydroponic systems without pesticides and pack the ginseng in compostable material from wood chips. The effect is very powerful due to the high concentration of ingredients. To my mind this is the first sustainable ginseng equivalent with former wild ginseng grown in the asian forests for 25 years+. And a safe source for Europeans which appreciate low carbon footprint plus high standards. So there are alternative ways to achieve longevity with ginseng. Finally this product is even cheaper compared to rare wild simulated species. Once you are not on site, you never know about the quality when ordering abroad. I rarely believe certificates on paper.
