    I got the exact same SL7 in 56cm last year-- amazing bike. Being an old guy at 61, the bike made me faster. I upgraded from my old SL3- the SL7 was quite a big step-up in performance. Aero matters! Love to hear your thoughts and observations after you get your bike dialed in and ride it for awhile. Enjoy and keep up the good work on these videos.

    @Alex - only tip as a complete amatuer gravel bike person is do not max out your tyre width that your frame will fit. Especially in the UK as mud clogging is very real - leave a little bit of room.

    Love SRAM’s AXS 1x system for cyclocross/gravel. I do ride the the road version as well, but am miffed they don’t allow 3rd party manufacturers to develop components to work with their system (cranks/chainrings). I think by opening up compatibility, it could possibly benefit them from additional r&d being done to maximize performance.

    • @Tommi462
      @Tommi462 Год назад

      Really? They outright forbid it? Can they, actually, stop someone making a component that just happens to fit?I was wondering why there's so little 3rd party components that fit their systems, but that would explain it then.

    • @jamesmonzon4758
      @jamesmonzon4758 Год назад +1

      @@Tommi462 There are some smaller boutique manufacturers that do make a few pieces, but is mostly limited to 1x chainrings. Nothing really on the road portion.
      When I first picked up an axs groupset, my local dealer/rep told me to refrain from trying to mix components that fall out of the SRAM/Quarq group. It was an easy way to void warranty if any failures occur. This included oversized pulley systems. Luckily though my components now fall outside warranty, so it’s less of an issue.

    The handlebar on the gravel bike is something to talk about. I think there are plenty of of us multi disciplinary riders who are jumping on to gravel bikes who don’t know who to handle the bars. What is the ideal transitional bike bar for someone used to drop bars without flair etc…and for those of us who have had 125 or more drop to much shorter drop? I am trying 12 degree flair… ALEX, what are you “feeling” for your bar choice.?

    Drop the fork out every 2000miles or so and check the hydro cables for any wear from the split ring spacer as if your hydro line gets a knick in it you instantly loose braking power. It has happened to a few SL7 riders if you read the forums etc.

      He's getting paid to ride the bike. This looks like the sequel to a video with a misleading title suggesting Alex was going to do a deep dive into what separates the good road bikes from the bad. Nothing interesting or revealing was said, except that Specialized are the best. Yawn. Edited to add that professional cyclists do not have a union, hence they don't get paid as much as other pros, nor do they have anything resembling a pension. So it's not surprising when ex-pros take up post cycling careers by shilling brands.

    • @AlexDowsettOfficial
      @AlexDowsettOfficial  Год назад +9

      The problem is, and the problem with the previous vlog, is that my thoughts and the thoughts of pro riders I speak with about bikes is not tangible. I can’t say “it’s x amount faster in a wind tunnel, it’s x amount stiffer, or x amount lighter” because those differences between all the bikes in the pro peloton are minimal. It’s the Specialized riders *consistently* (and we’re talking over the last five or six years) saying this bike is just better. With the validation of quite consistent race wins as well. I am complimentary of other brands, and ultimately “best bike” is totally subjective to the rider and an argument I or anyone else can never win.
      There’s also the bike, componentry and wheels argument. What makes a good bike and can one part bring down a whole bike. I was astounded at the change in performance of my Ostro last year when I changed wheels & tyres. It’s a very good bike that was let down by wheels or tyres

      @@glennoc8585 Key words: Top pro cyclists. The Sagan's, MVDP's, and Wout Van Aert's are years and years ahead of riders like Dowsett (who once held the world hour record) in terms of salary. Dowsett should be held in a higher regard, just like many pro athletes from other sports who achieved things others couldn't have dreamed of, but don't have to worry about doing commercials for a brand. They're set for life. Look at Van Aert, for example. Name a professional athlete from another sport who wears a sponsored piece of equipment that only he wears. You don't see, say, a football player wearing a different uniform than his colleagues. WVA is capitalizing on his own brand. That does not happen in other sports. Dowsett seems like a lovely person with a lovely family, and I wish the best for him. But his response posted above says nothing other than the fact he loves Specialized. Good for him. Edited to add that if riders formed a union, none of this shit would be happening.

      1) as I have told you many times before,in your platform , (I am the first person to respond to that video you made when you were telling the world how it flexes with your fingers….) I can also press that frame with my fingers, but just like you I have incredible strength and I can press most frames ( all natural by the way :), but unlike you I am super fat) and can easily bench press 250 pounds many times and can easily install any tire with my bear hands… as far as your tarmac sworks: it was build with mechanical group-set and a set of roval c38 wheels and a non tarmac stem but a shitty basic sl stem (from which you received that flex). The gravel feel came from the c38 wheels. I get you like mechanical group-set but since you can afford that shit you should have installed a proper di2 and clx wheel-set. Sl7 even though you can build it with mechanical, to get full experience should be di2. I think 9170 not 9270, i believe 11 speed is just as good and levers feel better for me.
      2) I have build more tarmacs than probably any other human in the planet aside from people at specialized factories, from frame up, at least 100. Let me be very clear Dorian, unless you personally designed or you are the engineer who build tarmacs there is no person in the plant that has more experience about sl7 than me. I have even cut that mother fucker and compared sl7 r10 and r12, all it is paint difference… maybe less carbon but i couldn’t see a difference between two frames.
