The siege of Bastogne was an engagement in December 1944 between American and German forces at the Belgian town of Bastogne, as part of the larger Battle of the Bulge.
The goal of the German offensive was the harbour at Antwerp. In order to reach it before the Allies could regroup and bring their superior air power to bear, German mechanized forces had to seize the roadways through eastern Belgium.
Because all seven main roads in the densely wooded Ardennes highlands converged on Bastogne, just a few miles away from the border with neighboring Luxembourg, control of its crossroads was vital to the German attack.
This battle will see the two armoured armies go head to head in a must win scenario!

The relief of Bastogne was a turning point in the Battle of the Bulge, a major World War II battle that took place from December 16, 1944 to January 25, 1945:
The siege
The German army encircled the 101st Airborne Division in Bastogne, Belgium on December 20, 1944. The city was a key location because it was a road junction in rough terrain that would have allowed the Germans to expand further north. The Americans were isolated from their rear bases and faced a shortage of food, medical supplies, and ammunition.
The response
Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe, the commander of the 101st Airborne Division, famously responded to a German demand to surrender with a single word: “NUTS!”.
The relief
On December 26, 1944, General George S. Patton's 3rd Army broke through the German lines and relieved the encircled defenders. The relief was accomplished by a counterthrust movement where Patton wheeled his army 90 degrees.
The aftermath
The 101st Airborne Division was able to receive resupply and evacuate the wounded. The 101st then participated in an offensive to push the Germans back. The Battle of the Bulge was the last major offensive by the Axis powers on the Western front.
