I am so glad I found your channel! Your videos are quick, informative, and entertaining. And provide great ideas for vegan meals. Nailed it! Helpful hint. Place a damp dish cloth under your cutting board and it won't slide around. Thank you for your work!
I absolutely LOVE your cooking and your videos!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your delicious recipes. Our cooking styles totally match, I have stuff flying around all the time too and I just measure by feel. And your kitty is so adorable! Walks right through the picture like only a cat can do ...
Derek, one of the best, and earliest, vegan dinners I ever ate was made by my friend, Daniel S. Maddox. He didn't use water to help the cooking process in the pan, but vinegar. See what you think! Maybe you'll like it.
A lot of us use a splash of vege broth or even soy sauce. My personal fave for stir frying mushrooms is always a shake of soy sauce and a shake of teriyaki sauce!😊
dude derek hey when adding the water while stir frying...splashing in acv will REALLY help bring out some delicious tangy flavor in the veggies. i pretty much have replaced oil with vinegar and water...good stuff
Do you compost your veggie waste? I don't right now, but a friend of mine has a counter top compost can... she also has a garden, I must add. Your stir fry looks delicious.
hey everyoe, ive tried to go vegan like 3 times now. but my gut never adjusts to the fiber and it leaves me feeling super bloated and extreme gassy all the time. when ive tried ive allways done oats, fruits, kidney beans chick peas, different veggies and potatoes. i allways soak the beans and rinse very well.. any tips?? ive literally gone 2 weeks of gass (super uncomfortable) to try and get past it but my body never adjust.
somewhat similar here. I did read that it does take 2 full weeks at least for your body to adjust to beans.. chickpeas are difficult for me. I started soaking beans with bicarb for at least 12 hours, that def made it a lot less gassy. Bit less dry carbs and more salads / green smoothies / protein rich veg also seemed to help. That's all I have, also curious for more tips.
That looks delicious!! I make stir fry often but it’s nice to see a different way to do it! What seasonings do you use when you’re cooking the onion and garlic? Also, why do you cook without oil? Thanks!
Rice, beans, bananas and potatoes are cheap. Maybe 20$. Then with the remaining 25$ get some fruit that you like, some nuts (some are cheaper than others), some greens and maybe 2 avocadoes depending on where you live.
Yes! I live in a pretty high cost of living area where groceries are expensive but I've been able to get all of my groceries for around $35-50 dollars per week! I think it helps having a well stocked pantry so that's up front cost, but then after that just buying tofu, soy milk, potatoes, and then fresh + frozen fruits and vegetables!
David Flores Trader Joe's has the cheapest nuts and seeds! Buy all your grains and legumes from the bulk sections and frozen fruit is cheaper than fresh or just shop in season. Most definitely possible. What makes the diet expensive is honestly the mock meats and processed foods (and kimchi/sauerkraut) so stick to whole plants.
You should be able to, just hunt around and shop seasonally. Dried lentils, oats, chickpeas, black beans and kidney beans are pretty cheap . I buy cheap frozen spinach for my greens. Then what ever is left buys cabbage, onions, potatoes, oranges, kiwifruit, mushrooms, walnuts, flax seeds etc
Awesome video brother, but I just wanted to give my opinion that I really don't think 1 TEA spoon of oil will hurt at all. More than happy to hear every ones opinion.
I’m a new subscriber! I have recently been trying vegan recipes (slowly converting) and have binge watched your channel 😃, any suggestions on great cheese alternatives?
WISHY LOKS don’t do it most of the healthiest foods and most coloric dense foods need to be cooked. Also everything taste worse and less food is absorbable, keep to a WFPB diet
From Wikipedia: Stir Frying is a Chinese cooking technique in which ingredients are fried in a small amount of very hot oil while being stirred or tossed in a wok. Not usually a pedant about these kinds of things, but this recipe seems to only fit the "cooking technique" and "stirred or tossed" part of this definition. Not really a stir fry, not even a fry, which requires oil to be used. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stir_frying
Hi Derek! Love your videos, love your recipes, love your BOWLS! ....yea this sound a little strange to me... Btw, where did you buy your bowls, they are so beautiful and i find it hard to find it like this in Italy. Thank you so much for your content and inspiration!
I personally like to stir fry with a lil oil, and add water or broth in between typically I will use a wok which gives it more of an authentic stir fry taste, especially if you like a lil char taste on your Tofu and veggies . Using water or vegetable stock is ok on a non stick pan and may require constant stirring on older skillets, but typically can wear over time and if you are a person on a budget sometimes buying new cook ware can be costly. I don’t think think that water browns or crisps food as effectively as oil, but I guess that’s just the foodie in me and only a preference.
Thanks for making a full video Derek !
Love all your programs! Thanks for helping us wanna be vegans learn how to do it!

whole food fat is much healthier and oil is truly nutrition less. I want people to see they do not need to use it!
Nice video Derek!
