Prelims 2024 strategy: Bubbling, how many rounds and how many questions did I do in 2023

  • Student FAQ: "Did you bubble simultaneously or after each round? How many rounds, how many questions? how much time per round?"
    Answered here using my Original 2023 UPSC prelims Question paper
    Please note: This is a very quick video recording (had to rush for a meeting so my setup is not ideal) but I wanted to answer the students' doubts ASAP to prevent their anxiety around these doubts.
    I will record a better video on this.

    Ma'am, in the second round and the third when did you mark the omr - was it after you looked at all the questions of that round? and did you decide to leave any of the questions of the round 2?

    • @ChandarprabhaSharma
      @ChandarprabhaSharma  Месяц назад

      Hello yes I actually do leave some Round 2 questions too (uploading detailed video on my exam day strategy come soon)
      As for Bubbling:
      I basically Bubble the OMR as soon as I am 100% sure about a question. Ie. I don't do bubbling of questions in batches but I do it simultaneously -- Question (100% sure)--> bubble in OMR immediately
      Now this process of reaching 100% surety comes in stages of 3 readings as follows:
      Reading 1:
      A. mark all my questions in which I'm 100% sure.
      B. Questions in which I'm 50% sure I will record that Q number and the 2 options I'm unsure in at the top of the page in the table I have shown in the video
      C. Questions in which I only have an instinct in- I record those at the top of the page on the right column of the table seen on top of the page
      I do all 100 questions this way and just keep categorising my questions either by directly bubbling immediately if I'm 100% sure or I record them on top of the page in the table
      2. Reading 2:
      Here I only look at the top of the page (left column of my table) and the 2 options in which I was stuck. I process it and if I'm 100% sure for a question I immediately bubble in the OMR
      3. Reading 3: I look at the right column in this reading and take a decision on which instinct based question I want to attempt or skip
      Hopefully this helps
      It's slightly hard to describe well on text so the detailed video where I show each round in the actual Question paper is coming soon

    Ma'am saw your video on sleep schedule. Ma'am I am currently suffering from same exact issue. I lay down on bed by 12 but I am not able to sleep as far as 3 AM. I try not to check my phone but after 1-1.5 hour i usually pick my phone after failing to catch the sleep. Ma'am this seriously effects my next day . My whole schedule got disturbed because of this. I also consulted a psychologist and he did prescribed me some sleeping pills but those are addictive and causes laxative effect so I discontinued. Ma'am how to ensure that we sleep as soon as we lay on bed ? My attempt is in 2025 so upcoming prelims is also not an issue

      Best way to sleep is take your notes in hand and lay down on bed as if you are going to sleep....read the notes and within 10 mins you'll fall asleep.... Light switch should be near to bed so that you don't have to move much to turn it off

      Hi Radhika,
      Last few days are best spent looking at PYQs (paper 1 and paper 2), active recall of static notes
      You may choose to do this either through topic wise testing of PYQs or full length simulations of PYQs.
      I didn't keep an upper limit for myself on the number of UPSC PYQ mocks because in the last days I knew ki sirf UPSC PYQ, static> current active recall and CSAT hi karna hai so I balanced time accordingly:)
      Hope this helps

      Don't worry most of us mark on the question paper.
      In general the experience of the exam hall is very positive with invigilators as well as UPSC representatives being very kind and compassionate towards candidates.
      If you find yourself in a situation where the invigilator doesn't allow you- politely and kindly share with them that the written instructions do not mention that you are not allowed.
      General advice to all candidates: do not get into any arguments it could affect your mental state negatively. You may request the invigilator to kindly call the UPSC representative if you face issues. But it is very rare that it comes down to this if candidates are following rules.
      All the best, do well :)

    Mam, can you please recall and tell.. How much time you took in round 01

    • @ChandarprabhaSharma
      @ChandarprabhaSharma  Месяц назад

      Hi Priya it took me 1 hr 15 mins in my FIRST READING. So this reading ended around 10:45. In my FIRST READING I categorised my questions as Round 1 (100% sure- mark OMR immediately), Round 2 (50% sure: record on top of the page in left column of the table seen in video- I also mention the 2 options I was stuck between so that when I come back to it in my 2nd READING I save time by only processing the 2 options I'm stuck in) and Round 3 questions recorded on the right column of the table at the top of the page in the video (questions that I have only a slight instinct in)
      So by 1 hr 15 mins or 1 hr 20 mins I had marked my 100% sure questions in the bubbles and also had my Round 2 and round 3 questions categorised.
      Then Reading 2 took another 30 mins so by 11:15 AM I re-process my R2 questions and decide which ones I want to bubble or skip.
      Round 3 started around 11:15 with 10-15 mins left for me to just decide which INSTINCT BASED questions I want to attempt.
      In the detailed video coming soon I'll show you exactly how this works.
      Hope this helps
      My best wishes to you

    • @ChandarprabhaSharma
      @ChandarprabhaSharma  Месяц назад

      Hello,
      Topic wise PYQs analysis 1991 to 2022 using this tool
      When did I start this: January 2022 for Prelims in May 2023
      PYQ Full length simulation 2011 to 2022- 3 to 4 times each year
      When did I start this: 1 month before prelims- had stopped coaching mocks at this time
      Coaching mocks: I had done 5 FLTs and ended them by April (for Pre in May 2023)
      I had done many more sectionals after I finished each portion of Prelims syllabus. At least 4 to 5 per subject
      So my priority order for mocks was:
      UPSC CSE PYQs> UPSC other exams (filter out questions relevant to CSE)> Sectionals> Coaching FLTs
      hope this helps
