In depth analysis of pro games by pro players is probably my favorite type of fighting game video. I love hearing the thought process and the breakdown of the decision making. This was a great video, tysm Mr. F
This is easily the my favorite type of content in the fighting game space. I know it's harder to produce than ranked highlights while pulling less numbers but I appreciate these videos everytime. Great content!
iDom has one of the smartest 'aggressive' game plans in the game today. Lots of people get credit for smart play when they play defensive characters, but iDom really uses that same skill set for aggression better than almost anyone else.
@@Clarkbardoone Yeah that's also true. But in some case, you can just flowchart some mixups. While defense can't be autopilot. There's a lot of mixups I just stole frop twitter and RUclips. It's a 50/50 so anybody can get hit, but when I encounter some really good defense, it's always so impressive
Awesome set, I was going crazy when I saw it live. I did not know how many small details and frame advantages were actually happening. Thanks for the breakdown!
Game 2 R1 was probably the most dominant round for Daigo. Completely controlled every neutral situation, had the right response to nearly every situation, and just kept Idom from doing much of anything. Which is weird because that is where it all falls apart. I dunno what Idom started doing differently but from Game 2 R2 on, it was basically a wash. Even rounds Daigo wins you can tell he is just a mistake away from being blown up again. Also damn I had no idea that is what was going on with the backjump jab of Diagos. I thought Daigo just messed up a command or something and accidently jumped backward with a button. Had zero clue that if Idom did not block high he would of lost that round due to a very weird hitbox technicality with meaty jump ins. That's insane. Wow
Idom made Daigo spend meter on EX Booms so much by the end of the set, I don't think I have ever seen him get so desperate to get someone off him, considering Daigo has like 20+ years of experience, that says a lot
That's pretty much how Daigo play when he's cornered. He did that all the time in SFL Japan. I think that's the biggest difference between Daigo and Higuchi's Guile. Daigo love to spent it on ex booms while Higuchi usually prefer to spent the meter for CA.
It's funny because I love watching Idom play, but he just posted a video where he went over this match annnndddd he said very little! Thank you for giving a lot of context and nuance to what was a very entertaining match :)
Novice fan of the game here. I think your analysis is fantastic. Really love hearing about all the technical wizardry at play during this match! Thanks!
Seriously, that block of Daigo's instant overhead was GODLIKE! Usually I root against him because he's TOO dominant, but I was bummed he fell to Kawano.
1) I would love a Ryan Hart breakdown if you can find footage. He always seems to approach games and matchups in a unique way 2) Was Idom using Poison when playing Ryan? You seemed to imply that in this video but perhaps you misspoke.
He used poison for game 1 vs Ryan's sagat, lost then switched to laura. Beat Ryan's sagat with Laura then lost to his ryu. He said he was hesitant to use poison at all on ps4 then said that after the Ryan hart set he definitely won't use poison for the rest of the tournament
@@Brian_F O! I missed where this match made Idom make that decision. I initially thought that Idom made this decision prior to the tournament. My apologies

If 2023's CPT is still done on console, that will signal that Capcom still simply doesn't get it. Like you said: Idom was forced to use a single character because the extra latency would have thrown him off when using Poison, and from that it's fair to say the deciding factor was that he had more experience playing Laura on a laggy platform and the mishaps that can occur from mis-timed inputs are less catastrophic with Laura. The brutal reality? Offline tournaments in 2022 were more legit, full stop. Because everyone played *on PC* with minimized latency. They played at their fullest. Even if online lag was a factor, it was by no means the kind of roadblock that 3 ever-present and needless frames of lag is.
New to the game. What I can’t understand is how does Daigo cast sonic boom and sonic kick so fast? When learning Guile, you have to hold back for a while before you can hit forward and button for it to come out. Same with his anti air kick, you need to hold down for much longer that it seems Diago is. Why is that? What is he doing so he can basically spam those moves whenever he feels like it?
It’s crazy how ps4 has about 1 more frame of input lag than PC but it was literally the difference between winning and losing to idom. Of course Ryan Hart’s play is no slouch either, he executed his game plan well.
In Idom's video, he said he started to jump over those Sonic Booms later in the set, because he realized Daigo would always throw a Boom after blocking Laura's crouch Fierce.
I have a question about what vrian called the most important block in the tourney. why was it important I'm no sf expert but wasnt guile like plus fifteen or so on that jump in? in other words why would the laura drop the block in that scenario? please someone explain to me cause in my experience almost every jump in is plus some amount of frames
The problem in this MU for daigo is that is hard to do damage fast with guile, that means that idom will almost always have his vtrigger wich changes the game, i still think is a solid match up for guile, but laura is damgerous still
I love watching Daigo's Guile. Most Guiles' neutral and defense feel like a glass castle where its hard to get in but you crack it once and it all falls apart. Daigo forces his opponents to lockpick every single door in his fortress and it's beautiful. Plus optimized charge and combos are sick.
when me and my friends where watching this sets game 1 we couldn't pay attention because of the spinning Indian man in the background. so watching this video is kinda like watching this set for the first time.
Daigo did his best against a laura player knowing that Japan has no Laura who is at Idom's level...On the other hand Guile Pro player can be easily found in any region of the world..
@@Brian_F Idom's Laura has no equal not even in NA let alone Japan region...
