Is all that disassembly really necessary? I heard that one can simply apply the lubrication directly from the front through a screw hole. Seems far easier, no?

Additional comment: It is a grave mistake to put too much oil into the camera. You can damage your camera when the oil flows into other parts like electronic circuits etc.
So never spray directly into the camera, but of course you can use the content of the spray together with a syringe. I made good experience with a syringe and one drop of gun-oil for each round (up to 5 times maximum!).
If you don't repair the squealing camera, the mirror movement become slower and slower due to wear and tear.

Hello, here are the specifications of my used syringe:
syringe capacity: 2 ml (the less the merrier, you only need one drop)
syringe needle: length about 40 mm, with neck about 55 mm and the diameter is 0,9 mm.
The color of the needle neck is yellow (maybe needle type?)
I bought my syringe at the local drugstore (pharmacy) where these things are sold separately.

There's an old saying "there's more than one way to skin a cat" - IMHO, there's a better DIY 'short-cut' that's less complex & hazardous - Just remove the lens mount screw at the 10 O'Clock position. Then enter ANY syringe 1 centimeter into the screw hole, then apply one drop of ANY light/thin oil (these cameras are cheap now so who cares). The droplet falls right on top of the mirror dampening escapement; that one drop will eventually spread & the noise will be gone. - I've been a camera/lens technician for over 30 years, so you're welcome...

People, do it this way. Yeah it will take you time to get the syringe but it's so mint. Few tries and it's always good, do it with all the sqeaky A's I sell.

Among other suitable (temperature-resistant, inviscid and durable) oils, you can use these oils for example:
Search on amazon.com for the keywords "Ballistol-Multi-Purpose-Lubricant"
I use a similar one, that I've bought at a local shop.
You can spray it into a cup and use a syringe like shown in the video.

Where can I get such a 4cm long needle ??
All needles I was able to get at my vet-doctor are 37mm only.
Might it be possible to work with this needle also ?

Hello there, from the look of it you seem resale knowledgeable and I would like to sask you if you have ever came across to a canon A1 where the mirror is not moving at all, I have tried everywhere but unfortunately no one had the same issue.
I would much appreciate your help, if you could at least advise.
    Thanks,
    Adriano

I have an AT-1 that has a strange similar fault to this - if I have not pushed the shutter release for a few hours (like a day) then the first release will be a couple of seconds or so, but every shutter release after that sounds and looks fine, slower or faster according to the camera settings. Could this be the same problem or something else? I have put in a fresh battery (Lithium, not silver oxide as it says in the manual, don't know if that really makes a difference), I do not want to oil if I don't need to.
