Got a 6'8 ss&b really enjoybit, but kind of wosh i'd gone 7'0. The days i chose it over my shortboards are the days were foam is your friend. Though it glides in on softer waves really well.
I feel that struggle too with midlengths. Too small and I'd rather just ride my shortboard...too big and I wish I had something more maneuverable. Still on the search for that perfect board (I don't think it exists lol).
@@JeffFadness Yer definitely, I have a 6'2 sort of hybrid shortboard from a local shaper that is absolutely magic up till head high, but is glassed so thinly I don't dare take it away anywhere. Every trip I find myself wishing I had it with me.
I have one of these boards on it's way after doing some research and feeling like it will hopefully be just what I'm after for my local beach. nice video demo man. Curious which mount you are using for your go pro? I've been using a mouth mount but the pov doesn't seem as good as yours 🤔
@JeffFadness thanks legend! And yeah me too.. It arrived with a fully dinged nose so just doing repairs hopefully be right for the little swell this weekend ha ha
Hi Jeff this is dope. Your surfing POV is so enjoyable I watched almost all of them. I actually bought a RNF 6’5 Catchsurf because of your video & the board works great. What’s your thought on the comparison with S&B ? It seems that SandB glides better & generates more speed & is more responsive ? I am at the level beginning to improve my turns& speed generation. I surf mostly 1-3ft mushy condition & sometimes 5-6ft typhoon swell in Shonan Kugenuma, Japan.
Hey HC thanks for the kind words and glad you're enjoying the videos! I'm not familiar with S&B, maybe we don't have them yet here in the US. Are they a soft-top similar to Catch Surf? Or a different construction?
@@s855453 Oh duh. I should have caught that lol. So, you're spot on with the comparison. S&B is higher performance on all aspects, but that's mostly because it's a traditional fiberglass board and not a soft top. I'd say any traditional construction (fiberglass) midlength fish (6'6" - 7' range) would be the perfect next step for your progression!
It looks like you might be able to move your front foot back 6 to 12 inches and then you can do some serious stand on the tale ripping. I have a 7'4" and it is a dream
Agreed. I think I tend to stick my foot out to avoid loosing speed. Definitely need a few more sessions on it to figure it out! Good to hear yours is working well for ya. 👌

I literally get a dopamine spike when I see the POV of someone catching a wave. Amazing. Can I ask what's your filming set up? Go Pro on Mouth mount? Wonder how hard it is to surf with it.
Me too, it does a good job of mentally putting you on the wave! And correct, using a GoPro on a mouth mount. It’s a bit tedious at first having to worry about the camera and catching the waves…but eventually it becomes very natural.
@@JeffFadness Your stabilization + the color grading is amazing. Do you use iMovie? Have to play with my color settings post edit because the raw files are so washed out. Also, what settings do you use for your GoPro if you don't mind sharing? Trying to do the same and record my progress and learn hopefully. Thanks Jeff!
@@anthonymeetsastranger happy to help...here's exactly what I do: GoPro Hero 8 set to "activity" (2.7k x 60fps), "Superview" (16mm FOV) and stabilization fully on (I recommend a GoPro 7 or newer for improved stabilization). For color...I cheat and color everything in the GoPro app with the "Blue Bird" filter, then air drop everything to my computer and do the final edit in Premiere Pro. iMovie should work just as well though as long as you can export in a high enough res (there's others that can explain how to get the best res on RUclips better than me...still trying to nail that part). Hope this helps!
Happy to share. I usually use the default "Activity" setting (2.7k | 60fps | SuperView) and I have the "boost" setting (blue vibrating camera icon) off.
Hey Tray...if I'm doing it, it's probably incorrect haha. I think I do that more on midlengths because I'm not used to having to step back to turn...vs a shortboard where you can pretty much leave your feat as they are.
