With all due respect but when would Assyrians know their history better? Nebuchadnezzar wasn’t even an Assyrian king, his father Nabopolassar was the one who toppled the Assyrian empire. I really don’t understand why we keep combining Babylon and Assyrian’s together, even though they were two distinct countries and culture.
Shlama, You raise a valid issue. Scholars, of course, consider the two civilizations separate. However, there is no doubt that Nineveh and Babylon are both Mesopotamian and the history of both civilizations, or the overall history of Mesopotamia, along with its culture, language, and the like, is intertwined. Further our Christian ancestors quiet frequently made reference to Babylon and Nineveh equally. Certainly, while they took pride in their Assyrian ancestry, as we do today, one cannot discount the cultural heritage that we all belong to: Mesopotamia.
