BPEC 2022 - PFI Race Start Carnage - Rethink Racing

Round 6 of the British Prokart Endurance Championship took us to PF International.
We had limited testing due to Thursday being a washout and Saturday had only 3 hours for 4 drivers to set the kart up and get seat time for a 6 hour long race.
This lead to quite a hectic start with 45 karts on the grid.
Safe to say this wasn't my best moments. Had the pace, couldn't make it work. Lost my head, made it worse...
We are using com-links during the race, so apologies for any shouting/talking.
I took Qualifying and the Race start. The kart was on rails but changing conditions took me by surprise in Qualifying. Being one of the quickest on track, I made a mistake as the kart gripped up and kissed an inside wall when pushing for a fast lap, bending the steering column. From there on we were a few tenths a lap down. Starting 11th in Class mean't we had a lot to avoid being midfield.
The race start was chaos. Taking it cautiously no rash moves and kept some distance, but unfortunately, other drivers were too aggressive early on and caused a pileup, which collected us as well. Nothing could be done.
Our luck didn't improve.
After the pileup, I was hot-headed, after the season we had, lots of emotion, tried to regain the positions back quickly, but unfortunately took a risky move against the 89 kart, which both drivers could have avoided. Leading to a costly but deserved black flag.
Came out in the train of the elite/pro leaders, a real head scrambler, frustrating so early on. But, 6 hours to go.
It went from bad to worse. As pace started to pick up, we had ignition troubles with the left engine. Eventually, we had to change it, which in total cost us 6 laps early on.
In the end, we were down on pace and top speed, but we managed to claw our way back from last (22nd) to 13th in class.
The teams finishing P2 and P3 were slower than us all weekend (no discredit) but were able to bring the kart across the line with fewer issues. Endurance racing can be cruel like that.

Looking at your comments - i'd agree with them mate.. You're a good driver, but let your emotions shine a bit!.. Shame that you undid all the good work with a few errors... and over-driving just made things worse.- You recognise that now, but it's hard to maintain a level head when you're in the zone!!.. Good video that shows how little things make a huge difference..
