I've had the Wanderings regular size for about 6 years now, and I have loved it!! I just bought my daughter one last week, and she's hard at work making it her own thing. I have never tried other brands but I'm sure they're great too. It's an easy, durable, and lovely looking journal that remains useful over and over again. Thanks for the great video - keep up the great work!
I love, love, love my two Newestor/September Leather TN covers! I have the A5 and the pocket size, both with spine and pockets. The A5 is buttery smooth while the pocket size is more textured, like the one in your video. I prefer the smooth leather of the A5 but I'm totally in love with the size and colour of the pocket size (the pocket is a lighter brown than the A5). They both smell deliciously leathery! I have a Moleskine Daily and a ruled Moleskine notebook in the pocket size and that's what I take out and about. In the A5, I have a hardbacked weekly diary, a dotgrid notebook, and a Clairefontaine ruled notebook. For your Traveler's notebook, I would suggest using a plastic insert like the one that came with your Newestor, with the card pockets right at the back, so the knot from the elastic can nestle in the groove between the card slots. I would also suggest 'flattening' the brass toggle by turning it at right angles, with the flatter part against the 'spine' of the cover. x
I love traveler's company. I never take out my inserts to write in them and I have never once been bothered by the "bump" in the back nor at the top. But I generally write in my lap, so that may be the difference. I have three inserts in mine right now. Traveler's Company is a whole experience and an aesthetic that I really like. I also love the way Traveler's Company notebooks age ("patina") They look even greater to me the more they are used. All that being said, I think it's awesome that there are so many good options! No shade to the others at all! I have a couple that I use for archiving at this time. Thank you so much for these reviews!
I have many traveler’s notebooks, but I have gotten away from using strings because I found I prefer folios and rings. However, I just ordered the Blackwing and Traveler’s Company traveler’s notebook and I am looking forward to receiving it and using it. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them all!
Great video, very informative. Looking forward to the next one! I have the A5 size travelers notebook from Wanderings. It came with three blank inserts that have a very good paper quality (100 gsm). It also fits an A5 Leuchtturm 1917 notebook perfectly. I also have the passport size tn from Wanderings, with a beautiful leather that has a more suede like feeling. It has three 80 gsm paper inserts that hold up very well with my fountain pens. In addition I have the Newestor/September leather de luxe tn in the regular size for work notes. The leather looks the same as yours and it was very stiff at first, but I rolled it and used some leather conditioner on it. It feels softer now and it added some character that I like. The paper quality of the inserts is good, but too smooth for me. The lines in de graph and lined insert seem to repell fountain pen ink somehow, so I use gelpens in them.
Great video. I have the September Leather/Newestor TN and absolutely love it. I’ve polished the cover a couple of times which has made it feel really nice. The accessories that come with it make it such a bargain. The gel pen is nice too.
I love the Traveler's Company notebooks. I don't bother taking the insert out, but I also use a pencil board and I only write in mine, I don't draw in it. I barely notice the bump but I also restring mine with a charm so my knot might be smaller. I also have 4 inserts in my camel currently.
I have a Newster September leather in TN size (no pockets) and a passport size with pockets. I absolutely love both but I have never had any other TN so I can’t compare. Mine seems more of a dark brown than in your video. I have 4 inserts in mine plus the Kraft folder and the zipper plastic insert. My passport has 3 inserts plus the Kraft folder, plastic card/zipper, and a canvas wallet insert (she’s thick 😂) but no over hang. Loved your review! I will be trying out the wanderings inserts next!
Finally , you tried the TN maker, travelers company, who started this whole travelers notebook concept. It is my most favorite and I tried (and do have other TNs by so many makers). Non are as awesome in my experience as TC. Thanks for the lovely video. Enjoy your day.
Ha! Yes, finally! I knew all along it wasn't my style because I use 4-5 inserts at a time. But I just couldn't resist having one to compare. It's sleek!
Initially I thought I would be bothered by the metal and string bumps but both were fine from the 1st day I started using my TN. And you can put in as many inserts as you like, perhaps for your preference it can only hold 1 or 2 but I have placed up to 5 and I don't mind the overhang. Newestor's bands are thicker but once they turn loose from frequent usage, it's just so troublesome to find suitable band replacements. Traveler's Company products can be purchased from my local shops and I'll rather support them directly instead of Amazon (unless absolutely necessary).
Have you tried hair bands? I’ve found those handy, readily available replacements. I also bought elastic cord in the jewelry crafting aisle and make my own.
I have the same camel traveler's company, and I do love the way it feels in hand. I've never been bothered by the metal bump. I do find I carry two or three inserts only when I carry it. I have an older September leather that has no texture but also has more strings and pockets. I do love it as well. I love the Wanderings inserts; I've never had a leather TN from them before, but it looks really nice. I also have Chic Sparrow that I love, and I have a Planner Perfect TN. I love them all. I usually have two or three in play at one time. :)
Wanderings make an excellent cover for a great price. I have the passport size and carry it everywhere. As for the Wanderings inserts, my preference is for the lined and dot grid. In my experience the blank inserts have inconsistent quality paper. At least with my fountain pens I've found the blank to feather on some pages and not on others. I've never had feathering on the lined or dot grid, other than my Private Reserve Electric DC Blue ink, which feathers on anything. The Traveler's inserts are all very good.
Did you get one within the last year or so? The leather really is different. I liked my earlier Newestors after rolling them, but I don't think that's going to help the 2025 version.
@@KeyLimeInkyes, I bought it in July last year. I had a travelers company one to compare it to, and recently bought an apple pig which is now my all time favourite (albeit most expensive!)

Oooh! Lines repelling ink? That happens with certain watercolors in my Stalogy notebooks as well. I’d like to learn more about why it happens.

Hello! Yes, the Newestor I just received is nearly black. Definitely different leather than their offerings from years past.
This is a great video for a newbie looking to get a TN. I’m looking forward to the comparison with pockets. ❤ ( new subscriber 😊)
🌷 Thank you, and welcome! I’ll be doing a long series of TN videos this winter.

Great starter video and I’m excited to see part 2. I bought my daughter the wandering for Christmas and I’ve only heard good things thus far.
🌷 I’m so glad she’s enjoying her TN! It’s such a fun, useful system.

I’ve ordered a custom wide with a reinforced spine from Etsy - fingers crossed.
I wonder if the chemical smell on the Newestor one is a mold-repellant?
That’s possible, because it was not very strong and wore off within a few days.
I got a newestor and hated it. Rough, dry and stiff. Tried oiling it and it didn’t help at all.
Did you get one within the last year or so? The leather really is different. I liked my earlier Newestors after rolling them, but I don't think that's going to help the 2025 version.
