Love the no-nonsense content! Can't to see what projects you'll use these for!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the support buddy!
That's a cool little product. Excited to see what you'll come up with.
Thanks as always buddy!!
I have watched so many of your videos...I can't believe that you have a video for nearly every question I can think of. Very nicely explained and edited!!
Keep up the Great work!
Can't wait to see what ideas you come up woth for these panels Chris.
Thanks so much buddy! I have a few fun ideas! Appreciate the support as always !
Wago's are the best, I use them all the time. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
They really are! I just wish they were a little cheaper! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
Wago should sponsor you....if it wasnt for you, I wouldnt had bought a bunch
Lol for real! They are not the cheapest thing and I have used so many! Thanks as always for watching!
Can you do a motion sensor with WLED set up, I'm loving these tutorial's. Simple easy and straight forward with link's to get everything you need. Thanks a bunch!
Thats a great idea for a video! I'll for sure put it on my to do list! Thanks for watching buddy and you are very welcome!
I did this and put it in a wood frame with some flat foam packing and use it as a ambient light for my office at work
Thanks so much for watching! That's probably what I'm going to try doing first! Something simple but I would imagine it looks pretty sweet! Thanks buddy!
Would you be able to make a heart beat motion with this technology?? 🙏🏻
Check out the soundreactive fork of wled, they have matrix pattern effects!
Thanks so much for the reminder! I totally forgot about seeing that! Thanks and I'll for sure be checking that out!
Hey Chris. WLED also has a matrix function too. For 2D effects (rather than 1D) should make an additional video showing off this too! Cheers.
I had no idea! I'll have to look into that. Thanks so much for the idea! Thanks buddy!
But they kinda limited...
@@ChrisMaherDIY For Matrix support it's worth to take a look at the beta versions of WLED. Especially the v14 ones. It makes also the setup of multiple panels easier. For additional Effects you can sync software like Jinx or others to WLED.
@@ChrisMaherDIY You’re welcome mate.
this is amazing
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Appreciate the support buddy and glad you like the video!
Hey! Could you please do a video on how to connect these to a dmx lighting controller ??
If I buy 4 of the 256 panels and connect them together and then change the pixel number on the app accordingly will all of them light up and work without extra power or other parts?
How many of these can you connect together?
TRy to test SP801E led controller, it can be used as for Matrix and for single lines of rgb lights, Very nice controller But not working with assistants maybe in fuuture updates, But you can attach led matrix set how many pixels you have, or make a line, or even create your own layout, works with ws2812b etc strips and matrix panels, also you can make you own effects, there is a build in app effects which can be mdified and can be written into device mmemory and run without app, you cna create playlists etc, also it has animation tab so you can draw you animation and save it for later, not tlaking about text, plus there is a 3 layers which can be combined toghether, and for some one main feature its support to run like art-net device, so you can you Jinx, resolume arena on it, from PC, sure it will be online but the amount of effects is unlimited, so govee is not capable of doing this. if only govee has like ability to create animations not like prebuild from patterns in which you can only change colors speed etc, it will still stayed the same... I if want f.e. make such effect like: lights are slowly one by one encrease their brightness, and after that all glowing permanently will be cool. The 1 bad thing about sp801e controller all effects a generated with frames, so its like you record animation so it played and after that stop playing, sure you can st it in a playlist for 20 times but still some switching flashes will be visible. Sorry for my english. And this is not ad i bought it with my money... and order another one to put it into the window for New Year animation.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! That is so much good information and thank you for sharing! I really do want to try the sp801e now! Hopefully in a project down the road I can try! You bring up a lot of great points on the shortcoming of govee and how they could improve things. Thanks again for the comment and hope you have a great day!
Great vid
I have tried 3 ESP32 WROOM 32 and 2 LED matrices. Somehow the matrix won't turn on; all is done as described, with WLED configured and enabled. What is going on?
Hmm, I would first go into led preferences and scroll down and make sure the data pin in the wled program is set for the one you used on the esp board. That's the first thing that comes to mind!
It's the GPIO number in WLED under led preferences. Let me know if that makes sense. I've always used the d2 pin on the esp device for the data line and that number used to be the default that was in the field after flashing. I think though recently the default number after flashing is now different so you probably have to go in and change it to 2 if you also used the d2 pin like I did.
@@ChrisMaherDIY It makes totally sense, so much sense that is now working! Awesome. Couldn't even imagine that.
@@marcoisabella1724 Awesome!!!
How come you're using the esp32? Wouldn't a Arduino be sufficient?
Hi there, this is pretty cool. But I was looking for a way to program static letters and numbers. I want to learn how to program and Arduino to scroll writing left to right, right to left, as well as top and bottom. But more importantly, how to get letters and numbers to snap in and out and fade in/out of each other. For example, a countdown from 10 to 1 fade out and in over each other. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks.
I wanna make a cube using 5 16x16 led matrices, any idea how much current that would draw and what kind of adapter I should be using?
Thanks so much for watching! I've also wanted to at some point try doing that!! I'm not sure what that would draw or what adapter. I would probably start using a 5v 30a power source and testing things out and going from there. Maybe someone else reading this might know for sure what would be best but that is what I would start out with!
these tutorials have been amazing! Well done! I keep getting inspired by your videos on what my next led projects will be!
Thanks so much and glad you are liking the videos! Appreciate the comment my friend!
What are the 3 pins tabs in the corner for?
Is it possible to setup a grid of ws2812 LED Strips and have it work like a matrix
Is it possible to make your own matrix board? I want to decorate a truck for a light show and I don’t like string lights. Also how many led’s can an esp32 board handle. I’m not familiar with anything so if my terminology is wrong I’m sorry in advance.
Thanks so much for watching and great question! You for sure can make a matrix board! There would be a limit to what one esp board can handle. I have never tried maxing things out but here is some information from the WLED site on that: kno.wled.ge/features/multi-strip/ Also, the newest version of WLED just came out with some sweet matrix animations. I'm hoping to do a video on that soon!
Hi Chris, please tell me what program do you use to control it?
Thanks so much for watching! Here is the video I made going over how to get the esp device loaded with WLED. WLED is what i'm using to control them: ruclips.net/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/видео.html
hi! i have a question. i whanted to add this panel to my PC, it has 3pin 5v adresseable header, 3A5V MAX, i was thinking, i have two options. 1) connect 2-3 molex adapters to the power panel leads, and only grnd + data of the motherboard header to the panel or 2 ) data + grd + power of the header to the panel + 2-3 ground + 5v of the molex adapter. Do you think that its safe ?
could you teach us how to program that in Arduino to upload pics and .gifs to it
That would be awesome to do with these! I'll have to first learn how to do that myself and hopefully I can make a video of that down the road. Thanks as alwasy!
i follow your way but wled not turn on.
Stop talking so fast and changing the view/image so much!
Chris, do you plan on making an LED star ceiling video in the future?
Thanks so much for watching! Its for sure on my long list of to do projects! Thanks for the ideas!!
Question would you be able to link up a few of these to make a digital clock? As soon as I saw that panel i thought about linking 4 of them together.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! You for sure can! It would require from the little digging I did some programming. I'm hoping to make something like that down the road and I'll then share what I did but I first have to learn myself!
It would be nice to have a "design your own RGBLED pattern" similar to the CCA makers/sponsors. I like the premade forms over individual RGBLED soldering. It makes sense for me to use premade in time and ruggedness. I am working on embedding a cop light on a police bike (red/blue with sequencing). Need it to be all weather, last many hours without a charge and be annoyingly bright.
That's a really good idea! I wonder if a company could come up with a simple interface to be able to customize a build, length, IP rating, power etc. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Are all ESP32 5v Looking on EBay and lots are 3.3v?
Thats a good question! I would assume that they are all pretty much similar but maybe there are some differences. Maybe someone else reading this might know more on that topic and can chime in!
@@ChrisMaherDIY After further investigation it seems you have several 3.3v pins but vin is 5v-10v but then runs through a regulator.
Thank you so much for this video Chris. What was that diffuser you used at the end please? That effect was absolutely mesmerizing
Would you use these for photography? What’s the wattage output?
Thank you Chris. 🙏🏻
