  • The Far Tottering And Oyster Creek Railway is a railway that you've probably never heard of. You've probably never traveled on it, but this magical and bizarre railway actually existed. In this short documentary inspired by Jago Hazzard of Jago's Trains, join me as we delve into the history of this weird and wonderful lost railway, and discover just what happened to the locomotives that made it so famous.

Very nice to see that old film, I grew up in South London and just remember the railway during the Festival of Britain, it was my highlight of the Battersea Park Fun Fair, we went back many times, if you did not pay to go in you could see the railway through the back fence. I also saw the wreckage of the two engines in the 1970's, they were in a very bad state, anyone could access that shed, sad to see. I did not realise those loco's were a rebuild of the Emmett Oyster Creek loco's.

Great video! For many years I have wondered what became of those locomotives after the 1951 festival closed. I live in the USA and first read of them in Fredric Shaw’s 1958 book Little Railways of the World. Although that book itself is quite a period piece now, I highly recommend it.

A well made and interesting film about this wonderful railway, should have many more views that it dose.

This is a great little film. I’d like to use a link to it in an article I am writing on the Festival of Britain and Rowland Emett for London Metropolitan Archives. 😊 I’ll post a link here when it’s published.
