I came upon your video’s yesterday, Sunday, and can’t stop watching you! I am retired, have been knitting for over 50 years. I am from the middle of the USA, Nebraska. I hope to travel east someday. I wold love to walk into your shop! ❤. I am working on a cowl called Sallah. I was close to finished, when it was obvious I did not have enough yarn to finish. So I started over, using the open end of the skein, but cast on a little over half the stitches required. Now I will have enough to knit the entire cowl and then knit the I-cord required. I am also knitting a double sided stocking cap, toe up, 2@atime socks, magic loop and the Navelli sweater. I am always knitting dishcloths, hot pan holders and scrubbies for gifts.
I have trouble with wooden needles, because I press too hard while I knit, especially the smaller size needles. I break one of the needles almost every time. I use stainless steel needles most of the time. Chiagoo is my favorite. ❤. Do you use/sell FLEXI-FLIPS? I like to have them on hand, but they do come in handy when you need a double point needle. They come in a nice plastic storage tube. I store all my DPN’s in their own toothbrush traveling holder. It works great!
The biggest project I have ever made was a Queen/King size afghan for my grandson and his new wife for their wedding, called Tree of Life.
Socks are probably my favorite project to knit. I have several socks I need to mend. They may be several years old, but I can’t throw them. 😢
What is your opinion on cotton knit sweaters? I am leery to knit a cotton sweater, cuz I read comments that cotton stretches. I have one pair of cotton socks, and do not care for the texture which bothers the bottom of my feet.

Hi Nancy, I enjoy your episodes, you are an amazing encouragement to improving my knitting! I'm from the Northern San Francisco Bay Area, I am knitting socks. Just learned to knit them in early 2023. Love them, will always have socks on the needle now. Just finished my 3rd pair and gifted them to a sick friend. She loved them. I find with every pair I improve. Started with magic loop method and now using 9" circular method which I like very much. I'm also knitting a sweater for my daughter in law. It is a sweater called Vanessa V-neck by Michele Rose Orne, Using the very lusious Juniper Moon Farms Moonshine in Colorway 09 called lagoon, an electric teal color. So Soft!!!!! Alpaca, Wool, Silk content. The question I have for you is I want to see your technique for lace lifeline. My next sweater is Zweig, with main color in medium gray wool and yoke in pink lace gradient. The yoke has lace detail I have never done before. I heard of adding a lifelinbe in case I make a mistake and need to rip back so need to find out best way before I start this project. Thanks for your continued knitting support! Carrie

Currently working on a large afghan for family member relocating away from home - so sending the him off with a hug from me. Yarn is a cotton with a bit of acrylic - wanted it it have "weight" and easy care. These day I am almost exclusively using interchangeable circulars. Have about every size (except for the smallest that many circulars did not come in when I added to my collection) and multiple cables of assorted lengths. Started my knitting life on metal 14" straights! Now circulars for flat, in the round or magic loop serve all my needs. I have them mostly in wood but a few metal or acrylic mixed in. Afghan is an old Lion brand pattern for a simple diagonal baby afghan. Originally done as a square, but I adapted for rectangle and make it to fit a twin/full size bed!

    Hello!
My name is Ulrika and I'm sitting very comfortably knitting and watching you from the west coast of Sweden. I wish I could visit you and your lovely store and sit and knit and chat for a while! After having completed the Seascape wrap, knit in Drops Fabel and I also held it with Drops Kid Silk, I've now begun with at blanket using yarn from my stash. Had to frog a project I started because I wasn't happy with the colour combination (the second Seascape wrap I had just started). So, now it's a blanket and I'll design it as I go. It'll be a project that I'll knit over a longer period of time so in between I'll finish my Filcolana Saint Malo, I've the sleeves left and it'll be a lovely jumper to wear. It's the first time I knit in that yarn (Merci) but not the last. After that I have a few jumpers to knit and mainly from Sandnes. I learned to knit at a young age and it was my mother who taught me. We also learned to knit in school and I rememeber I was very proud having completed my first jumper and in three colours at the age of 13. Didn't knit for many, many years but now I must knit every day. Also love watching different podcasts while knitting and this spring I found yours. Looking forward to your next podcast! 🌞🌞🧶🧶🧶
    All the best

    Hi Nancy,
I’m from Michigan and visit your shop once in awhile when I am in Boston. A few weeks ago when I was struggling with a sweater for my husband, you were talking about having an easier knit around, so as not to get frustrated. At the same time a type of yarn came across my radar. It is assigned pooling. I used one skein of Dream in Color…there is more out there I’m sure, and knit “Field of violets” scarf. It is totally garter, except when you get to “the color” and it was just the break I needed. I try to pick patterns that I can learn a new skill as well. Love all your tips and advice…wish I could knit faster…won’t be in town for your class.

I’m from Southern California. I just finished the Rota Tee in Sans Garn, Line. Currently I’m knitting the Alpine Bloom. Haven’t been able to get a connection with my LYS plus their yarn selection is not very good. There is a nicer LYS about 25 minutes away I enjoy your podcasts.

I am knitting teenage size blankets for the Linus Project, they have to be in acrylic yarn for easy washing.
I knit with long knitting needles English style, the right needle tucked under my arm. I struggle with tension if I use circular needles.

Hello from Düsseldorf, Germany. I am knitting socks with an ancient yarn from my stash. I would love to see any suggestions that you may have for jumpers with interesting yokes (such as the Ranunculus, which is a delight to knit). Love your podcast!

Hi Nancy - I lived in Belmont MA for over thirty years and used to stop by Black Sheep several times a month when it was owned by the previous owners. Nine years ago I moved to NYC and summer in Amherst MA. I've knit forever and now alternate between knitting Stephen West shawls and Isabell Kraemer top-down sweaters. I enjoy your podcasts and always learn something new.

Hi Nancy, love your podcast where I always learn something. I live in NY on the North Shore of Long Island, currently working on shortie socks and the Cobblestone Cardigan by Jared Flood.
When I was starting to get the sweater yarn together, I didn't have enough Aran weight in my stash to complete so I purchased additional Aran weight yarn online. I'm not a new knitter but was surprised at the difference in yarn that was labeled as Aran weight. I thought it was standard and ended up having a wide range of yarn thicknesses all in what was labeled Aran weight.
I wonder if ordering online I should just go by the yardage? Would that insure two different brands being compatible?
My LYS closed a few years ago and I mostly purchase online. I don't mind a little bit of a difference, but some were way off, normally I purchase what I need with a pattern in mind, not for this project, however. Any insight is appreciated.

Hi there, Nancy here. I understand your frustration. I find it a good practice to look at the gauge rather than whether its aran or worsted etc. Everyone's definition of these is different. so it's better to look at stitches per inch and the needle used.

southern MN. Just a hat on my KB round loom. I will be getting the rotating double round loom. Ordered. My problem is finding interesting quality yarn. Really a good yarn store. They keep closing. Sad. Not much in variety of stitches, because I really like to use multiple colors in 100% wool and then felting. And then embellishing with beads buttons etc. And now that I have been youtube ing. Mainly self taught. I have never been able to use needles. I have used a lot of brown sheep yarn which I had available. Moved, so that is gone. When I order online I have greater restraint. Also do a lot of quilting and others stuff. Yup too many options.

Oh, about 50 years ago I made my own double sided loom with nails to make my mom a scarf in blue angora yarn. Imagine when KB came out with their long double loom. Wow!
