Awsome module! Would love to learn more about buchla modules.the problem is that now everybody is going crazy about eurorack and i dont know where to find this modukes for sale. Or any internet sithe that talks about this stuff.
dear Todd - I would like to use the 252e with my music easel. how would I clock the 252 from the easel ? would I send PULSE to the CLOCK in on the 252 ?
das SPEZIAL It is my understanding that the 252e would have to be the master clock. So you could clock the easel from 252e pulses. If I recall correctly the 252e can only be clocked via MIDI
@@vgermuse thank you kindly for sharing your help on this. I use Ableton as my main clock which send midi signal to the Music Easel or a pulse into the easel ... I.e 125 BPM.... Would this mean either of those 2 methods will not work and I would need to buy a separate Buchla unit to manage the midi signal to send to the 252e unit ?
das SPEZIAL Ah, I don’t use midi so probably not the person to talk to...that said here’s from the manual if this helps, “You can use external MIDI gear to send messages to the 252e through a 225e or through the FirmwareCard in USB MIDI I/O mode (225m)” best wishes
Been curious about Buchla but the price tag concerns me. What advantage does Buchla provide over competing systems like Serge and Make Noise? A complete Buchla Skylab is 15k and Buchla Easy 5k.
hello Mr. Tod; i really appreciate the video; however i have got the spider with 225h & 226h system and i would like to use it as a sequencer for a DX7 yamaha, is that even possible? i have tried to sequence a Dark energy II with no luck at all ;( i know is a great unit but i think its to complicated and the manual is not very easy to understand even kknowing terms as MIDI, CV; PULSE; so, could you please show a basic example of using this module to control otrher external or vintage synthesizers? that would be awesome; specially showing some examples of what the 225h and 226h or the 202h can actualy achive when interecting wth other synthesizers or modules; sorry but i feel like the manual is in japanese and i dont have a clue even to use use the seqnuecer if it is possible; Best Regards & Merry Chrismas (^_^)v
@@vgermusestill I wish they had implemented a simple way of loading sequences independently from the rest. I know the workaround… but still, it would have been nice. But I’m realistic enough to not expect any development to happen for the 200e
Todd - thanks for posting these videos. I'm looking into the 252e at present, but the user guide lacks some 'obvious-isms'. Perhaps you could help? The sequencer is max. 16 steps, but can it run sequences of every length less than 16 (i.e 15/14/13/12 etc through to 1 - and including 1)? Also, can it run two/three sequences of the same length (i.e two 8-step sequences), or do the sequencer lengths have to vary due to the visual inadvertently acting as a restriction (in the sense that each sequence requires its own visual domain, as opposed to superimposition)? Appreciation in advance of your reply. I've emailed Buchla directly with a few questions, but haven't heard back yet. Regards Kris
@Todd Barton Thanks Todd, I had watched all of them before contacting you. Unfortunately your video(s) didn't help my specific questions, but I spoke to Marc today via email. The limitations of the 252e are something of a drawback i.e it can't do every sequence length under 16 on a single track (i.e it can't do 13/14/15 step sequences). That plus a few others. - Edit to add - I just noticed you mentioned 'layers' in this video - I think it is the nomenclature that was confusing me i.e not referring to them in terms of sequence length. I assume two sequencers/sequences could be concatenated to create a sequence of length 13/14/15, but then a track is lost in the process. PS you mentioned each clock has 11 layers, but you stated 12 layers in the talkthrough. Thanks again & all best
This module by itself is $3000. There is a ~$4000 LEM unit which contains this module and a utility module capable of converting all sorts of inputs (cv, bananajacks, midi) and a powered case for them.
yeah you can build a Eurorack drum setup for 1k and stuff like desktop Tanzbar way less money and does same thing. Buchla makes great products but EXPENSIVE! Think Ferrari for rich synth nerds with money to burn.
Thank you! This is very helpful!
The 252e Buchla Polyphonic Rhythm Generator retails for $3,109.99 and dude give his apologies for the low rez audio and video! LOL

And a Behringer is less than 1k
Looks just like the warp drive accelerometer interface from my old Galaxy Conquest private space mobile.

How much does this synth cost? Thanks

That is a lot of money, thanks!
Almost 4k now I think in 2018 from what I see www.noisebug.net/site/buchla/index.cfm?ID=32
