So dope, I watch "Pedal" and this before bombing the night streets in Tucson, AZ. We don't really have couriers here but I ride like one lol. Bikes man, all about the ride :) Peace!
Funny how the stereotype of a messenger is a druggy and alcoholic. No good messenger is an alcoholic. Biking is excercise. Being an alcoholic hurts your performance and money.
I dunno- I was a messenger for nudging 21 years, and while that's true of some- one of the best messengers I ever knew, and I'm talking long term, not flash in the pan, was a total alcoholic who would knock down, on average 5 pints before lunch. Then continue at the pub every night. Myself - I always liked my weed to smooth out the day. Mate- we were bike riding fanatics who also liked to get fucked up. If not for that love of getting messed up- most of us would have been actual athletes. Professional cyclists. The fun in mess life was a balancing act between getting messed up, and still performing at work.
Great video, respect to your way of living as a messenger, it may seem a harsh way to earn a phew $ but i would work as a messenger especially with the need to get by, and be independent.
I was a San Francisco messenger for most of the 90s, and having watched the first three messengers featured in this piece, I'll say without reservation that these dudes are unbelievably stupid clowns.
They have to be literate to do their job, especially back then before GPS on smart phones. Building addresses, streets, avenues, signs for entrances, etc.
Too much pride here. Like your endangering you and other people. Acting like your due respect. Look at it for what it is, the job is not necessarily needed. This job could easily be replaced by a safer way of transport. Lol like a cab
20 years later still cool, respect all the good messages from the messengers
Classic...
"...and that's the day I learned you don't spit on peoples cars."
It's uncanny how old this seems even though it's "only" from 2000
Well now it's 20 years. It's like 2000 vs 1980, a LOT changed between then.
What makes you think this is from 2000?

I started as a bike messenger only a little after 2000, and yet this video feels so old like it was from the early 1990's instead! At least

Why is it that none of the riders seem to be literate.
