    System 03 is currently deployed in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch - it is around 2.5 kilometers (1.4 miles) in length and capable of cleaning an area of ocean equivalent to a football field every five seconds.

      Ocean Cleanup’s a nonprofit, but the majority of their funding and support comes from Maersk - owners of the largest shipping fleet in the world. Leaves the question open of how much greenwashing is acceptable to fund nonprofit activities.

      8.3 million tons are discarded in the sea yearly. They would need 2300 ships getting rid of 10 tons daily, if they wanted to compensated that. I totally love the effort but... i have no idea if that is enough. I am still donating a high amount monthly but.. you know.. i probably is to late.

      @@ika32 doesn't work, there aren't other materials like plastic that can be refined and be as flexible as it can (economy of scale) for now, all the green / environmental projects are just part of money laundry scam funded by the government. the first one is FED btw.

    It's amazing how the pacific garbage patch used to be a huge issue and politicians wanted your money to solve it - now someone has solved it they could not care less as they cannot make money out of it. You guys are doing great keep it up.

      It hasn't been solved. The pacific garbage patch is still a huge issue. What they are doing here doesn't change much. To clean up all of it you need a lot of money. This NGO isn't working for free either.

      @@hazelpople1962 That's awesome the producers and consumers lack responsibility so that capitalism can develop a solution to the problem it allowed to develop ,,,, its a toxic loop of none sense....... I wonder how far that litter has travelled during its life?.. Here is a better idea,,,,,, plastic bottles and containers should be unified amongst all producers and made to last! so they can be reused multiple times before being recycled which is similar to the system we had with glass milk bottles,,,, .. if our plastics have a reuse value it can be cheaper to reclaim them than to make new ones.....if we continue to develop such solutions eventually there will be more motivation to not take responsibility just to justify the existence of such companies permanently,,, You'll be fishing litter out of oceans for the remainder of human history.....??? Proper clever you are.....KMT

      @@gooble69 Gosh,,, The same distribution infrastructure could easily be utilised to reclaim items for reuse,,, its not brain science,,, it is actually the most efficient solution possible because the avenues already exist....Its your citizenship that has given you the perspective that makes its easier to point your finger than to create a solution yourself because you have been given a concept of separation and a incorrect sense of scale intentionally,,, life on this planet is actually one huge super organism that developed a wide range of methods to consume light in order to become self sustaining perpetually....Every aspect of life on this planet knows this to be true,,, Every aspect except humanity. We developed long standing issues from our past struggles as pray animals and as a species that survived an ice age....Your sense of patriotism is a historical fear driven reaction to scarcity and trauma .....lol

      The problem is people. Corporate executives and politicians aren't some odd offshoot of humankind. They're the DEFAULT. That's what everyone always is.
      The ones doing this cleanup project, they're the odd ones out, and they won't survive. The ones praising this project? They'll just turn into conventional politicians and executives, if they get into any of those positions.
      The public is the problem. The public sucks. Garbage in...garbage out.

The top ten worst are The Philippines, Suriname, Trinidad, Saint Lucia, Malaysia, Guyana, Panama, Grenada, Belize and Jamaica. In fact, western countries are among the lowest in ocean waste pollution.

    I was in dry dock making maersk tender ready for ocean cleanup with new paint and overhauls and an impressive engine system update from MAN that saved fuel consumption in transit by roughly a quarter. Im glad the project still is working
