Transfer case uses a different formulated gear oil than what the diffs use. The 75-90 is fine for the diffs but the transfer case has bronze bushings that require a specific gear oil that won't chemically attack the bronze bushings. The Mobile 1 75-90 you used is no bueno. Do some research to confirm.
I roamed around the world wide interweb last night and this morning and found very mixed responses on this topic from regular gear oil is fine to you should use what the factory says you should use. I landed on a source I really like, linking him below. For me I will continue with the 75w-90 fluid for another 30k and will substitute in the Ravenol 75W next change cycle to see if I notice a difference in operational performance or mpg. Note: I am well out of the warranty period. ruclips.net/video/GB8LKDOpW6I/видео.htmlsi=elAbnH_dnzVoqfoe
@@OGDIY-itseasy Thank you for the video, it's so informative and helpful. I'm about to change my transfer case and (front&rear) diff for almost the same vehicle LC 200 and im really confused which type of oil i used. What you think, should i change with 75W as manual says or can i go with 75w90? The 75w is very rare to find in my town and if there any it's expensive. Regarding the diff, do you think i can use 75w90? Your opinion is highly appreciated Thanks in advance
I personally am good with putting in the gear oil I chose, I just finished a transmission flush and fill so will have an opportunity to drive the car over the next couple of days. I will post back here with feedback. I do like the car care video and think a master tech has good insight with his experiences.
I should have mentioned, next time you change the gear oil in the transfer case, look at the coloring of the oil in different lighting, if it has a hue/line of yellow in it, it's an indicator of the additives in the diff oil chemically attacking the bronze bushings/components in the transfer case. Just looking out for you & trying to help. ruclips.net/video/3le9ZT5HUlk/видео.html go to the 8:00 min mark
