I have a Marley and currently building a Big Al but not at your precision! I love these type of build video, I don't know how you guys make it sooo relaxing
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 🙂 It takes a certain eye to make these work. I'm getting better at it. I wish I could do a lot more vids like this Building bikes is so satisfying.
Awesome video (new sub)! My first frame up build was a candy apple Big Al. I absolutely love mine. And that head tube badge is the best in the business.
Nice job on the vid and the build. You should do more of these vids in the future when the opportunity comes along. Love that deep red color on the frame.
really enjoyed your video looking at the big al and the mm bop im 5`7 so cant decide which is best for me im favouring the mm bop as i had the original and loved it.
Thank you! Both are great bikes. The MMMBOP is a bit slacker and more descent focused. It would be more playful being a 27.5. Also, it might be a better fit at your height but that is a matter of personal preference and skillset. The Big AL is more of an all round design. It will climb and descend well but will be less nimble. The 29in wheels will roll over obstacles better.
This looks like an amazing build! I have heard and seen so many great things about this bike, but I can't find a complete build in the states so I may have to buy the frame and build it up. I am 5'11 and I have been riding on an old 2002 Ellsworth truth haha but I want to get on modern geo without breaking the bank. I live in northern Az and I love riding in the mountains, I can do a few blacks but my favorite stuff is blues. About how much did this whole build cost? 2k?
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I have a Big Al frame arriving next week. Going to use the same fork. I gather that’s a large frame. Did you use a 170mm dropper?
@@AdrenalineIsLife I just ordered a Ragley Big Al 2.0 from CRC (no 1.0s available). I really wanted to see video of your installing your dropper control cabling. Did you edit that out of this video or did I just miss it? Thanks!!
I did test it out. It's a size too big for me but it was surprisingly nimble considering. The 29er is slow to get rolling compared to 27.5 but it ate up the trail once it got rolling. It's basically a 29er Marley. I haven't tried a mullet setup yet. I might try one down the road.
@@AdrenalineIsLife I really enjoyed the video, perfectly captures the meditative mood of a bike build. May I ask yout height and the size of the frame resp. which size you would prefer? Thanks a lot
Just wondering, did you use a brake mount on the rear due to a larger rotor? I'm just using a 180mm. Great vid mate, you made it look smooth, don't know if I'll have that much luck. Just about to start building mine, can't wait!
You'll definitely need a 160mm/180mm adapter to fit the larger rotor. They are pretty inexpensive. Glad you enjoyed the video. Take your time with the build. Measure twice cut once and google if your not sure about something. Nothing better than riding a bike you built yourself.
I would like to know the following torque settings used for your build sir. 1) Bottom bracket 2) Chainring 3) Crank arms 4) Driver on rear wheel 5) Deraiuller 6) Brake Rotors 7) seat to dropper housing Thank you sir
I don't have the specs readily available. Different brands have different torque specs for their parts. If you are using the same parts as the build in the video. The torque specs should be printed on the parts. Derailleur should be 10-12nm, rear axle 9-11nm. The seat post clamp is usually 4-6nm.
You would typicall fit a size small but they don't offer a small Big AL. 29er sizing is tricky for shorter riders. Consider the Marley. It's the same design but with 27.5 wheels.
Nice build, it's rarely that I watch a build to the end.
Thanks!
That was incredibly relaxing to watch thank you
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!🙂

Are those 35mm bars and what rise are they please? I’m doing a big al build this month and I like the look of those bars. Great job
Yes those are 35mm Chromag Fubars. The rise was 30mm or 35mm if I recall correctly.

Carefully shopped at pandemic pricing with a mix of used parts we were roughly at $1900.

Thanks. I just used the spacers that came with the BB. One 4.5mm spacer that snaps into the outside of the BB on the drive side.

Yes. 4.5mm on the drive side on the outside between the crank and the BB.

@@AdrenalineIsLife Nice! Big Al and mmmbop are on the top of my list. Thanks!
How does the Big Al compare to the Xtrada?
The Big AL is more descent focused where the Xtrada is more of an XC focused bike.
Just got a Big Al and should be able to ride it next week! Mine also has a Z2 fork, which I’ve never tried. You running it at 130mm on that bike?
On this build, I had the travel increased to 140mm to suit the rider. The Z2 is a great fork for the money. Enjoy.

44mm

No. Ragley doesn't give you a headset. You have to buy one and press it in
