I’ve fished a long time with mono 4lb. Test line. I mostly stream fish with a split shot, hook, & nightcrawler . I’ve never put a leader on. I don’t do much lake fishing because my casts are probably too short. Another reason why I don’t throw spinners or other artificials because of lack of distance on the casting. So maybe if I switch to the braided line I’ll have much better distance casting? Also, when you talk about the connection knot I don’t know if you are tying a swivel to the main line and then a mono leader and then a second knot tied to your spinner, jig, or other lure. Is there a video I can watch to learn more ? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!! Any & all responses are appreciated! Thanks so much, Rob
Phenix Ironfeather Fiber I use the Elite Braided Fishing line Spectra 3lb... Love it, I've cought a 3lbs bass and a 5pound alligator gar with sea guard yellow label 6lbs with FG knot. I cast a 1/32oz size#6hook with a EPF grub 1.2. i catch EVERYTHING!!! love it.
Yes sir! Broke my PB twice couple of weeks ago with a 6.8 and a 7.3 using the dark side of the force…3lb pink to 2lb vanish fluoro. Gave up on it last year but then learned the FG knot and slapped it back on. Hasn’t broke yet on a fish💪🏼. Picked up the new green 4lb and 6lb last week from your shop. Good vid. 🎣🤙🏼
Yea FG knot is another. Knot that works well with braid connections. That’s awesome I think you’re thinking of Cartel’s shop? He’s a good guy thanks for supporting local!
I thought I was going crazy w/ the same issue using the same lines. thank you sir for putting this info together. I just put on the grn 4lb today ....wish me luck..
I haven’t had many not like some 10lb I’ve used I mind my line a lot watch it drop place it right lol every cast but yea some for sure! Thanks for watching
I got my grasshopper and yellow white banana tubes and the look amazing, delivered right on time.Looking forward to using them. I also bought some uv dip called Uv blast.that makes plastics reflect UV light. Not glow in the dark but reflect the Uv . Also make a spray for lures and spinners.I have been reading about how trout and salmonids can see uv and lots of other fish. Uv penetrates very deep in the water column. Interesting articles . Will try to use them with out and with and see if any different. Might be just the thing in the deep lakes you fish. I am watcher not a paid spokesman for the product. Great vid and info. Keep up the great work.
Appreciate the support and comment Rob! Thank you! You’re 100% correct Rob. I have come to that knowledge through my research as well, same color spectrum as humans RGB with the addition of UV filter. I’ve heard of those products, it can definitely add to the attraction but with MADE BAITS you actually don’t need it 😉 😉 🤔 😉
Same problem with the 3lb braid. I think it is too thin too. It cuts through the mono or flouro like a knife whether in a uni knot or alright knot. The deal-breaker for me is wind knot. I used it on the Elixer, Mirage, and Dragonfly. I believe the Elixer is the most susceptible to wind knot for me. Another problem with the 3lb is fraying. My hands get very dry and the dead skin sticks to the line like velcro and fraying it. I will try the 5lb. Hopefully, it will work out. One great thing about using braid is it will cut through other people's lines like the guy that cross-cast over your line. lol
Appreciate the comment and feedback! Your experience is invaluable and help those learning from the community here in the comments thank you for watching and sharing
I have the 5lb on a mirage and I get the same problems, as far as the connection knot the Alberto works fine but the wind knots and fraying is a problem for me
Great video! This answered a lot of questions I had about iron feather braid. What’s your preferred connection knot for braid this thin? I’m a uni-uni knot guy myself.
I had a bunch of issues with the 3lb phenix braid If there is any type of wind out it would push my mini jig to the side and I’d be crossing and pissing everyone off . Also I’d get random knots in the line when casting I didn’t mind it at first but then noticed my line would snap where the knot was. I gues it would creat a weak point in the line . Bumped up to 5lb and I love it !! Very sensitive & strong .
I mostly use fluorocarbon 6 pound to 10 pound usually, but lately I've been using braid for my main line and a fluorocarbon leader, I'll use mono if I drop below 6 pound test as it'll stretch before it breaks, I really like using the braid to leader method it allows me to change my leader without changing my whole spool.
Hey what’s up mike I went to Dixon for the stock today I caught my limit at whisker bay with my 7-11 mirage 3lb iron feather braid it worked really great no problems all caught on your all white mini jig ADVENTURE GETTING MADE TODAY🎣✌🏻
Get made Enrique!!! That’s what’s up!!! I need to go back maybe one more time. Glad you’re enjoying the braid and getting made on the jigs! Appreciate your support!
So the reason for the braid line is for sensivte ....or strength. When u tie your jigs it's on regular line. And if so. How much of it on the end of the braid to the jig....
420! Yo! Ok cool great question! Braid is for both strength in your leader backing and sensitivity. I use about 3-4 ft of leader attach to the braid by an RP knot. Hope that helps lmk if you have more questions! Get Made! Thanks for watching!
How do you prevent line twist I been using 4 pound test Izorline XXX Super Co-Polymer on my Daiwa 7 ft ultralight rod with a Daiwa LT reel but with the mini jigs every 4th cast I get knotted up
Great video on slight difference between color/strength. I have mono on my set up & never used braid. I know using mono & flouro carbon advantage is stealthiness. Fish cant see line. So how is braid an advantage in that manner with these bright colors? Thats what I don't understand. Appreciate the input 👍
Great question! The color line is for high visibility for the angler. A 3-4 ft leader will be ok and not disrupt your bite! Thanks for watching GET MADE
@@TroutMadeAnglerCo Had another braid question lol When you spool up braid, how long should your top shot of flouro be? I just purchased a mid-grade Daiwa & Shimano combo & spooled up 5lb Phenix Iron Feather. Will be 1st time using braid. Wow, super thin line! Thnx! 👍
Great video as always 🔥 I just received my bright green 4 & 6lb braid and definitely going to use the 4lb 👌 but I also have the Berkley Nano-Fil and in some ways I feel like it casts so much better than the Phenix Braid & handles fish like a champ 💪 but everyone has their preference.
@@TroutMadeAnglerCo yeah it works great! I wanted to try it out & I’ve been using it for 3 months now and I like it! It casts very far and is highly visible and sensitive as well. I recommend it 👍
@@corywoods9599and after a year using it I can say it works better than phenix braid. After a while of not using it(phenix), it gets frail and I’ve lost a lot of trophies because I just re-tied the knot but then it snaps. And the nanofil doesn’t and it’s smoother. I recommend anyone to get their hands on the nanofil or the Suffix nanobraid! 👌
Mike, Give me some advice. I've always used 2lb. or 4lb. monofilament. I have a few Phenix rods. I bought another one in January at a Sportmen's Expo Show in Sacramento. Phenix threw in some pink 5 lb. braid with the purchase. My reel capacity is about 300 yards, and the spool of braid is 175 yards. I don't like to underfill my spools. Should I put quite a bit of backing on the spool and tie the braid to it? This way the spool would be more full. How long is the fluorcarbon leader that you attach to the braid? Thank you. John
Hi John! I just released another video! Go check it out! But yes I use mono backing 2lb about half spooled and my leader is about 3-4 ft and I use an RP knot. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching John!
Surprised they don’t go any higher with the lb rating. When I do use braid I use 10lb… which has the diameter of like 2lb mono or something like that. Haha.
They do have higher rating braid available it’s called Hydra. I think it starts at 8lbs. This particular braid is I believe primarily for ultralight fishing applications. Thanks for watching GET MADE
What's up Mike! To your knowledge how long ago did guys start using braided line when it comes to trout fishing? I just found out about it last year. I've only used my braided set up for jigging so far...in your opinion can I also use it to throw spoons and spinners?
How do you find the casting distance? I just got the 5lb for increased casting distance with my mini jigs since I was using 10lb before. Do you find the any of the phenix braid sizes to cast better/worse than your old 2lb mono? Also, do you still use the 2lb mono for your leader or flouro?
I’ll be doing a cool video this weekend loved this question! So braid definitely cast for me about 15-20 yards further than mono. In my experience. Not sure about vs each pound test class but would be interesting to see! Appreciate the comment! Thanks for watching
3lb braid is way too small I'd go with a 6 or an 8 for trout. Bass 10 or 12. The only real reason to use something that thin as 3 lb would be for BFS fishing and I don't think you're into that. I do recommend you checking it out though since you're big into trout fishing.
I agree mostly Michael! Thanks for chiming in! Get made! I’d go 2-4 for trout I like living life on the wild side and give advantage to them being lone shy I feel 6-8 is what I’ve fished for bass at castaic lol but bass again not a bass guy. I’ve tried bfs and would like to get into into maybe soon!
If your using 2lb line and you want the sensitivity try some varivas es2 ester line more sensitive than most braid and cast better with small lures
Finally got a chance to use it. It's awesome. Super light. Great casting. Very strong. 10/10
