Have many hobbies including bass playing (although I'm not Les Claypool)but fishing is THE best thing in my life. The peace and calm of fishing soothes my soul. I'm ready to go right now. Shout out to the guys for catch and release.
Ever since I first saw this, I've secretly had a bucket list item of going fishing with Les Claypool. It'd be way too much fun and I wouldn't catch more than a sunburn, but I'd relish the day.
Les actually learned to play Guitar and was a Guitar player in his band. When they noticed there were no bassists in the band, Les said, "I'll play bass, how hard could it be? it's got 2 less strings"... Hearsay of course.
I can picture it, on a fishing trip with Les. He is pulling in a beautiful trout. No sound but the river and the wind and the trees. I'm enjoying everything, but then, I hear "Over The Falls" in my head and start a mosh pit in the boat. Les falls in. Oh, shit! What have I done!? The first and last fishing trip with Les. My bad.
He never had leasons for bass playing and he is the most influential bass player ive ever seen. It shows that he is truly talented and one in a million.
les claypool is the shit because there really isnt anything you CANT do. Honestly, if you put your heart into and dont doubt yourself anything is possible. les is so awesome!

Les is a cool down-to-earth guy. I was at a concert (I think it was Medeski, Martin and Wood) in San Francisco in the early 90s and I had been standing right next to Les in the audience for a long time before I finally realized it.

Y'know, Claypool looks so much better with age. His appearance from 1984 up until this point has changed drastically, and he looks so much more distinguished. He really IS the man. Probably the most quirky guy I can think of. At least GENUINELY quirky.

I would love to do fly fishing one of these days, unfortunately the rods, reels, and fly fishing lines are twice as expensive as are the regular fishing equipment.
FLyfishing is neither expensive or hard to learn. You can get a Cabela's Three forks 5 or 6 weight fly rod for $34.99 on sale. You can get their wind river fly reel for $19.00 on sale. This is a great rod/reel combo. I have it in 6wt and 8wt set up with fast sinking lines for my deep water flyfishing on lakes. I have plenty of high end high dollar stuff but you can catch just as many fish on the less expensive rod/reels it makes no real difference as far as catching that is up to your skills.
wow Les is pretty similar to me lol I do the same thing and go fishing (I live next to a lake) when I need ideas. I also play my bass as a lead instrument (when I can)
