    +1 to the Fomo hot take. Gamers complain about live services, but won't buy a game that's purchase once and has no updates. Or if there is "no content" even if the game is in a good state. People claim the final patch of OW1 was good balance, but had no content.

      probably because the age of paid live service games are over. Suicide Squad (as much as I loved it), Concord, Skull & Bones, they all flopped cuz they aren't free. COD feels like the one exception, but it's only really being held up cuz it's COD. F2P games offer chances to intrigue players and bring them in with cool stuff while a game like Concord could offer 5 free skins for an event, but not many people would actually buy the game cuz what if they buy it and don't like it in the end (and can't refund it)?

      I agree in the general sense, but it's hyperbolic. My opinion comes from getting older I expect and just having less time to play. I run a lot of purple skins just because I like them. My favorite echo skin is her hot rod red. I often find myself going back and replaying old games and only really have overwatch and star wars the old republic as my only two live service games. I'm really not a fan of the fomo because it actually makes me play less. If I hit a point where I know I won't get enough to get something I wanted on the battlepass I stop playing and go play something else because I lose all of my motivation. I remember unlocking armor in Halo 3 or the katana by completing achievements and getting the flaming head from playing against someone with it. It was a different time and cosmetics were earned through play. I'm ngl, I miss it a lot. No it wasn't perfect, but it worked well. I think Helldivers does it better at least but the grind on that game is so long to get anything. I feel less motivated to play games than ever.

    The thing about the soldier take that I dont think they guy realizes is Season 9 really kind of hit soldier stupidly hard, because paired with his fall off and the added health, its become disgustingly hard to punish someone out of position. Between the heightened TTK allowing people to be further from cover without risk of death, and it giving supports a longer window to realize and act, soldiers damage is consistent and easy but just NOT enough compared to someone like Ashe.
    For a long time hitscans have definitely ruled the game, but Blizzard is little by little nerfing even the hitscans into piss useless territory. S9 mauled soldier a little, Cree got screwed over so bad that Hog hook has an equal effective range, its made Ashe take over as hitscan supreme and now she's seeing some nerfs too.
    Seems Blizzard would rather gradually make ranged hitscans piss than address WHY ranged hitscans have suddenly completely taken over as the only safe reliable options despite seeing little direct buffs ever since S9 and the DPS passive.

    Hot Take: Sombra's current version is antithetical to her character fantasy.
    Sombra is meant to break informational symmetry. She can see you, you cannot see her. Playing sombra should be a check of your ability to coordinate with your team, to use the information that you gain access to through permanent stealth and turn that into an advantage.
    She should not primarily be a check of the enemy teams coordination.
    Thus, she should not be able to win any fair 1v1, but should rather be following up on moves that her team made based on her information.

    So, since I made my comment about Sombra, I've actually played her a fair bit in both qp and ranked. I would say that I've learned a lot about her and why she is a problem. In my experience she does not do a lot of damage, but remains quite hated by the community. I believe the reason for this is her permanent stealth. When the devs reworked her they tried to balance her around her translocator and her damage, but I think that was not the problem with Sombra. It is the ability to set up and wait for the perfect moment unchecked that is the problem. No other hero has this freedom of set up. If they continue to try to balance her around her damage and not her stealth she will forever be in this weird place of being among the most hated heroes but also being weak.

    • @SocialExperiment232

      Her kit will never be fair this way. Being able to just engage, and disengage with no consequences while being able to auto aim remove all abilities with one click to the point where even if she doesn’t get kills or damage she is still bringing tons of value will always feel unfair to me.

    • @razrv3lc
      @razrv3lc 15 дней назад +4

      The old dev team used to always say they never wanted her to have burst damage because of the stealth. All she could do was shoot and had literally no other damage in her kit, on top of a very mediocre gun with some wild spread that ensured half her shots wouldn’t even hit.
      The old dev team knew it would be miserable to play against and they didn’t want her to be an assassin. Then the new dev team legit turned her into exactly what the team that created Sombra never wanted her to be.
      I’ve got 500 hours on her and most of it was in OW1. She feels cheap as hell to play in OW2. She went from being a hero you had to really be precise and thoughtful with to do anything useful, to just being the queen of spawn camping and 1v1s. She feels WAY more similar to Tracer now where they used to feel totally different.

    • @thesilvanalyst6880
      @thesilvanalyst6880 15 дней назад +1

      @razrv3lc Yeah, exactly. The issue with Sombra a few patches ago was that she could easily kill supports during the hack duration, which basically took all agency away from the targeted support and made them rely on their team to save them within like a second. This made the experience of playing against her completely miserable as, unless you somehow managed to interrupt her hack, your fate was entirely outside of your control.
      To me, that is the polar opposite of what Sombra should be. Sombra is not the shark lurking in the waters, she is not "the main threat". She is the fly on the wall, the unaccounted for variable that tips the scales and throws a wrench in the enemy's plans.
      She should basically never be able to quickly solo kill someone, she should be the one requiring her team to be effective, not require the enemy team to work together perfectly to prevent her from being effective. The onus should be on her to coordinate with her team through the essential map hacks that she can provide, not through the raw damage output that she has.
      She should rather just be able to pick off targets that are already weakend through some other means, because she has the ability to be behind enemy lines at all times.

      If you are being healed by Mercy, you will survive a fight against a Soldier 76.
      If you are being healed by a mercy and Hanzo headshot/body shots you (maybe even uses Storm arrows) you will die, close ranged.
      Hanzo does do a lot of QUICK dmg-output. But he's not as consistent as Soldier.
      For example, going from 200HP to 0 is instant with 1 headshot. However for Soldier 76 it takes time to build up until you do 200dmg.
      If you are being healed it doesn't matter if your HP plummets to 0 instantly. You could have Zen ult but if you get headshotted you are still dead.
      That's the point OP was making about "Hanzo does more DMG". He doesn't really but he does do instantly DMG (you cannot out heal this instant kill potential)

      How about this for a change instead. Zenyatta ultimate (Transcendence) healing vs a Soldier 76 DMG. Let's say you're fighting a Moria as Soldier and a Zen ults. What can you do? Nothing. Any damage done will be healed.
      However, as Hanzo you can STILL hit 1 headshot and kill the Moria. Why? Because that damage is instant. No healing can be done.

    Hot take: staggering can be good.
    Overwatch is a momentum based game. Yes, the enemy team gets momentum if you die while retreating from a losing fight. However, most of that momentum comes from them killing you on the way to the next fight; therefore, they lose that momentum if they stagger you while you are running away in the opposite direction, towards their spawn.
    The enemy team loses more momentum the farther you are from the objective, the longer you last, and the more enemies it takes to kill you. If you stagger good enough, it is even possible for your team to engage the next fight with an advantage.

  • @willus259
    @willus259 14 дней назад +4

    Another thing to add to the Sombra take - Sombra is unfun because she has easy engage and easy disengage, she can dictate the engage on her terms and often they get killed because they stuffed up the translocator throw. Throw in the fact that virus is free damage and basically doesn't need proper aim, it's a bit outrageous that she can be so effective so easily.
    Also as a tank main, whenever I have a Sombra on my team, it's basically never an enjoyable way of engaging the enemy team. The Sombra almost ALWAYS wants to do things on their own terms and never considers the wider team, she is probably the most "selfish" hero in the game.
    So from BOTH enemy and ally perspectives, the match just becomes sub par in quality.

  • @bruhmoment3356
    @bruhmoment3356 16 дней назад +3

    Hot Take: Sombra’s biggest design problem isn’t her invisibility or her virus combo it’s her translocator.
    Her play style is similar to Genji or Tracer get on a flank and assassinate a high value target. The difference between her and those two is the commitment for example Genji has to burn a resource(dash) to close distance and/or confirm a kill then he is rewarded if successful but if he dashes in and isn’t successful he gets punished hard. Sombra doesn’t have this risk reward because of Translocate is only an escape tool. Regardless of whether her virus combo is successful or not she can always escape. She should be punished if she mess up that combo but because of translocate she just doesn’t sometimes. And sure you can track the translocate sometimes but other times it just not possible. She is basically all reward and minimal risk.
    This isn’t the best example sense TF2 is bit slower and less team focused but Spy has a similar role has Sombra but with a true one shot but he isn’t has dominant has Sombra is because he come with a boat load of risk. Spy does have his problems but fills his niche. While Sombra is just good when she should be somewhat niche because of her uniqueness.
    So yea I think translocate is the problem.

I don't believe in hard-counters per se, it's just that you'll have to adjust your approach in order to find value. If you do that enough then you will be more adaptable and have the experience to find value no matter what situation you find yourself in a comp game.

    Hot Take: A primary reason 1 tank feels bad for a large majority of players is because a “miss” (missed hog hook, mistimed Zar Bubble, bad ram shield placement, etc) will ONLY be a bad thing. With 2 DPS a missed widow shot can can still make space for a 2nd DPS where if Orisa missed a Javelin and the enemy team colapses on you there isnt another tank to keep that space.
    I like 5v5, but the psychological loss of “turn your partner’s mis-play and make it a positive” (like bubbling a winston as he retreats from a bad jump for Zar Charge) hasnt been regained and needs to be talked about!

    @ 3:45 joining a team was the best decision ive ever made tbh, scrims and coaching brought me from bronze 2 to silver 4 already and it's only been like a month, plus we're learning from competing (we just competed in calling all heroes !) ive also, outside of my team and just through calling all heroes, met so many people who love to help and ive gotten vod reviews by multiple new friends ive made and im currently climbing pretty decently, ive also gone from silver 3 to gold 4 in support just from listening to what our support players are told during our scrims and coaching sessions
    it helps a lot with positioning, planning, target acquisition and focus, taking space, angles, etc even if you dont have a coach and you just make a team with your friends and comm with each other, something as small as saying "care widow" and a ping or naming a location can turn the tide of a team fight since your team is actively aware and listening, same with support players being able to let the team know "hey we cant see you" or just "LOS LOS LOS" until they back up
    plus its just so much more fun to queue ranked with a team lol, i always end up getting irked when i solo q because im noticing everyone's mistakes (except my own because i have the problem of not noticing in the moment which is why vod reviews are good) but with a teammate or the whole team we can have fun with it while also finding more success

    hot take: 6v6 and 5v5 cannot coexist, and Im not talking about splitting the player base. People have forgotten how different 6v6 will be. OW1 tanks were much weaker individually compared to OW2. There will need to be changes to all characters to account for having a sixth player. These new variables makes 6v6 a totally different beast compared to 5v5. I respect the devs for trying to make the 6v6 crowd happy, but i dont see them being able to put out balance patches on both sides with any regularity. Its basically balancing two different games, when they have a tough enough time keeping up with one.
    Once this new mode comes out, they'll either just add a second tank and change nothing else (which would probably piss people off), or theyll need to roll back years of patches to try and find a new balance. 👟

Healbotting doesn't work because even If I heal consistently, I am still at the mercy of other's performance. It feels like I have to do DPS job for them while also doing mine if I want to consistently win matches, in a way that is different from the other role queues.

      As an Echo main myself, something that would happen in the past before the hp changes when everyone as at 200 was that I’d copy Hanzo, then as I load in, I’d get headshot and immediately lose the copy. After he lost his one shot, Hanzo couldn’t do that anymore so copying him felt a lot safer since I can dodge his shots and survive for a bit. Now that Hanzo’s hp went down to 225, so did the copies, so I get one shot again . Hanzo’s not that strong so I don’t mind the revert back that much. It’s just sad to see that happen again.

    2:00 I usually just start games by being on vc and if my teammates are making useful callouts, I will stay. It makes the games slightly easier when I get those helpful teammates. But if I get teammates that tell me to "swap" or "heal more" (btw im a lucio onetrick) I instantly leave vc and text chat even if it risks losing a team fight because I would rather not get tilted and perform worse.
    It's a lot easier to climb up metal ranks and improve by one or two tricking a character because you don't rely on the crutch "swap to a hero you don't know how to play after every team fight loss" mentality that gets you stuck in a rank for a while. It's better to focus on yourself than have to constantly change your playstyle because your angry teammates tell you to.

After previously hitting GM and trying to play genji more since then, I feel like ever since blade has become 3 shot, it feels almost IMPOSSIBLE to kill without nano. As well as the fact that soooo many heroes have incredibly easy escapes or counters to the blade. You pop it, you're an instant target for the entire enemy team, It takes three swings to kill most characters, and so many heroes can just escape. While I've adapted and can acknowledge that part of the skill with blade is looking out for people on cooldown so they can't escape, it still feels like such a terrible ult for how much it does compared to how much risk you're taking using it.

    Hot (as in good) take: there should be an open role queue.
    If you queue with a 5 stack and want support and everyone else flexes then the rest of the roles should be open.
    There was a game mode before where you could pick any role and once the limit was reached (ie one tank, 2 damage 2 support) the roles are locked.
    This way if your friend feels like they are “throwing as tank because this map is hard” you can both go back to spawn and swap roles.

    Creators like Awkward do say to leave VC and honestly it was the best thing i ever did in OW. What people don’t want to admit when they ask someone to switch is that they typically start off my insulting people, or the lower ranks don’t actually know the problem. Even though, for example, there is a winston dominating the match, they will yell at you for not going soldier against the phara, who is doing mid. Not only that, not everyone wants to win on any hero they can, someone might not find the same amount of joy winning after swapping 3-4 characters, as they do as the characters they spent 1000 hours learning and putting the work into. It feels too cheap to swap to a character i have 1/100th of the time on and win. It feels better than losing don’t get me wrong. but the amount of times i won because i swapped is significantly lower than the times i swapped and still lost, and times i didn’t swap and pulled through.

    Hot take: People shouldn't complain about Overwatch 2 "becoming" Overwatch 1 again because of the possibility of bringing back 6v6 and the removal of PvE, since it's the same game. The "Overwatch 2" title comes from the version 2.0. The game is still the same as back then, but it brought such significant changes (like the shop, the game being free, clash, 5v5 adaptations, new maps and heroes etc...) that the v2.0 title suits it, mostly because the game would be free since then. Something that proves that OW2 is the same game as OW1 is that all OW1 players kept their things when swapping to OW2, thus, being just a newer version of the game (for example the latest minecraft update was 1.21.2, with the 1 at the beginning. if they decided to add triangles to the game (for example), which would change how the game is played, then it would make sense to have a v2.0 of minecraft).

    Not as easy as moira, god no, but I do think Cass has some of the easiest hit scan aim in the game. You are usually positioned at the easiest range to shoot from (targets are close without being soo close that they zip past your screen), Cass's recoil finishes before his next shot is ready, so he is super easy to keep level, and his fire rate is pretty darn close to how fast you want to be AD strafing on him. If you just maintain head Hight or center mass on harder targets, and do chill flicks opposing your strafe changes, Cass winds up having the some of most autopilotable aim in the game. So long as you are positioned well, you can just play the exact same way, all the time, against every hero. If you wind up locking your strafe to your max fire rate, that can make you predictable, so I just like to be a bit lazier with my aim, giving myself a second to relax my muscles before dealing with the enemy in front of me. Less shaky aim, less anxiety, less predictable movement, win win. Once you cross a certain threshold for hitting most of your slow flicks at mid-close range, Cass becomes super chill to aim with.
    I find reactive tracking on hero's like soldier much harder. Cass has a bit of a skill/technique skill floor that you need to learn, but past that he is very consistent. Soldier can easily reach 25% acc against squishies in even the most bronze stuck hands, but the requirement for instant micro reactions to keep on target, keeps even the aim trainer Andy's capped around 50% He has a kind of exponential difficulty/value relationship, where Cass has a very flat and stable one. Hot take, but even plat Cass mains aren't that far off Wanted in terms of aim alone, they are just plat because they have smoother positioning/ tactics brains.

    Hot take: People don't have the right to complain about their counters. I played Moira a lot back in my support days and now play against them as tank a lot and let me tell you, Moira is super weak. If you just pressure her there isn't much she can do to you and most use Fade to approach instead of running anyway. 80% of the complaints I hear about how her attack locks on is from people who play characters who she counters like Genji Tracer and Sombra, like yeah your character relies on having low health but not getting hit, her low damage lock on attack will kill you if you are cocky, maybe don't charge them without a plan. I play a lot of Rein and Moiras think their attacks going through shields means they can get free dps but their damage is Shiiiit and I just walk at them with my shield down until I'm within skull caving distance. Same with Winston and Bastion, if they kill you maybe it's because your character isn't made to face them or you just have bad positioning or whatever, I play all sorts of styles but Winston's is really hard and finicky so hearing people say he has a skill floor in the ocean because his attack doesn't need aiming really pisses me off

    If 6v6 comes back, I wonder if it would be worthwhile to give the tanks the OG OW1 dps role distinctions for role queue (known as attackers and defenders back in the day if y’all don’t know). Basically a split between the heroes like Doomfist/Winston/Wreckingball vs Reinhardt/Zarya/Sigma.
    I know that the strategies each tank employs are more complex than just aggressive vs defensive, but if strategies like double shields or hyper dives turn out to be too overwhelming, maybe this is how you combat that.

Plus, I might have a zarya that could bubble me when Winston and dva jump me. Even in open queue, that extra player might go torb, cree, sombra, symm, etc to help with the dive. You had more room to adjust, and still play the various games for map control, objective time, and picks.

    People would rather tell everyone to join vc and try to order them around than learn how to play one singular hero themselves and do their role properly. We aren't playing MOBA-like OW1. To coordinate with the team you don't need VC, you need to open your fucking eyes and look back at others before engaging. It sounds obvious, so damn obvious but it's insane how many people (sometimes me included) just forget about it. Sometimes giving your teammates a couple of seconds is enough to let them take positions and only then engage.
    You don't need VC for this, you need pings, eyes and more than a couple of braincells.

    I love your insights and this channel but sometimes i feel like you take questions too literally. In regards to soldier I think the observation was more like: "Since you do damage over time, and theres more escapes than ever, it can be very difficult to secure kills as Soldier 76." He used Ana 'nade and Moira Fade as an example which are not great examples but I think I got the gist of what he was going for. A lot of times it feels like you have an enemy on the cusp of elimination and they just press a button and *BAM* theyre totally safe.
    This in conjunction with the Armor and Tank Headshot buffs mean its very difficult to pressure the frontline while you wait for those backline opportunities.
    I agree with this. While I occasionally see a good Soldier a lot of times theyre just damage farming and securing something like 1 elim per 2k damage dealt, which is just an awful stat.

    Hot Take: You describe that YOU dont have an issue vs Sombra and so on. Have you considered the feeling of people who are not at your rank, Bronze, Silver, Gold.... how they feel, facing a Sombra how they can NOT deal with. So for the best of the game in general, remove invisability characters, they are just to punishing and dominating in the lower ranks.

    The shit I’ve heard from VC is the reason I stick to just pinging and the wheel. I’m sure there are some decent people that actually know how to verbally communicate even if it’s criticism.
    Unfortunately, there are too many that think just yelling and insulting is the way to go and they take ZERO introspection on what lead to them and/or their teammates dying in the situation. I work full time and I don’t have the patience after work to chance dealing with some idiot screaming in my ear for whatever reason so I mute everything.
    You got something to say? Ping it. I’ll gladly give it a look to see that I can do. You want to combine ults? Say it through the wheel and I’ll hold off until your cue.
