Similar experience sorta. Found a sealed remaster of Leonard Cohen’s Songs From a Room for $9.99. When I opened it kit was in fact a 180 gram Sweetheart of the Rodeo by the Byrds. Have a great remastered CD with great notes if that one but for 10 bucks, I kept it.
Turns out it wasn’t Sly but a band called East of Underground covering Sly. Recorded 1971 and repressed in 2022 at the same plant as the Lightning album.
There are reports of this mis-pressing on Discogs. The recording that plays is a band called East of Underground (covering the Sly Stone song), a reissue from 2022, obviously done at the same pressing plant. Bad luck Jonathon, would have been a good find otherwise.

Did you check the other side? These things will commonly have the wrong plate on only one side. Apparently the East of Underground record was a special release by the US Army of bands of servicemen who won a competition.
Yes, it’s the complete East of Underground LP. Originals go for over $500. I gather they repressed it in 2022. Must have been the same pressing plant as the Lightnin and they screwed up.

There is no way I'd take that back! That's a collector item now! Seriously
Crazy. I haven't had that happen but I did have a Jackson Browne that was the same on both sides.

Oh man…. lol. Could it be the last run of sly and the family stone??? I think I’d keep it. But that’s just me. Lol
I looked on Discogs but can’t find any Live Sly albums that start with “Higher”. Very strange
