Have you even played the game at all this past year? They're throwing out updates, patches and hot fixes. Pretty much weakly. That's not a sign of a company that doesn't care.
I have played the total of about 2 hours in this last year. I stick my nose in a patch, look around and basically log for some more months. There are too many ships (pixels) being sold with no window for development. Which an interesting ship is produced (C1), they gimp it. Simple box deliveries are like going to the gunfight at the OK corral. Other gameplay is just about passable.
Player built stations/space stations and a good economy/resources uses can solve problems. Instead of making everyting, they can release tousands of almost empty solar systems, and let players built what they whant. We will mine the ressources, carry them, built, protect and maintain them.
Here's something no one is talking about. The number of active players. November 2023 saw 800k active players. August 2024... 43k active players. See MMO Populations. Draw your own conclusions.
The 800k population last november was probably a temporary boost due to the absurd promises they had made at CitizenCon, about SQ42 being feature ready, Pyro being ready and other BS like that...bs because both SQ42 and pyro don't even exist
40000 active players is still an MM0, 10000 is An active mmo. Most people are taking a break this year because they were waiting for 4.0 to drop. That's usually how expansions and big patches work with most games when the community sees something large on the way. They take a break to avoid burnout before that something drops, that's common, just look at the active. Player base for final fantasy 14 months, sometimes a 1/2 a year. Before the new dlc drops, you'll see the exact same pattern. And if you look at the earnings for this year, they have made more money every single month this year. Then they've made in the previous last 2 years. So, even if the player base is taking a break and the activeness has gone down, the amount of money, they're making has gone up, which means people are seeing the game and getting more interested, but everybody's kind of on Edge, because the big awaited 4.0, is right around the corner. Finally after years of waiting, because we have been doing massive amounts of testing for the server meshing technology. That's supposed to allow us to play on the level that they've been promising for years. But they're now just getting around to it since they entered polishing phase for squadron 42.

I used to login you merely to fly a ship. But right now I am not even sure I like doing that anymore. I sure as hell don't like green space for fuck's sake!
I could care less what they do for funding. But its a real issue when the make the game in a way that its extremely monotonous to do anything, even to get armor on and weapons/consumables the basics to go out into space, then you get your ship and go off somewhere, and half way through the mission or cargo run suddenly you get a client side game crash.. Now, you log back in and you get some sort of bug (spawn inside a wall outside your ship, respawn back at the planet ships gone all cargos gone everything's gone) Whatever the situation, my point is its almost impossible to have enough cash in the game to do anything when the games procedures and costs exist in a situation where when it crashes you lose everything then cant even try to re-do the mission because you don't have the money to even buy a pistol or repair a ship or anything. And I'm the type to just power through the bugs and issues and have enjoyed it from 3.15 - 3.22 ish... but now, its just so bad and difficult to do anything I find it impossible to even play, the game wont let me play itself! The only way around this is two options, either A, they give every player 20,000,000 aUEC on day 1 of every patch... or B, they fix the dam game before releasing a patch. But wait, there is option c!!! Option C, is continue what your doing c.i.g. and watch the project spiral into bankruptcy and consolidation.
2012 backer, I have played SC since hanger days. As of 3.23 I have lost All interest in Even logging in anymore. honestly Cig is destroying their own game. The game is no longer fun. They are no longer a skill based game. Seems in the last 2 years CIG has Just lost its Vision and Goals. Selling ships that they said they would never sell. MM and the current flight model are the worst ever out of the 4 we have had now. Lost faith in this project. CIG only after the money....

Yup 2012 for me too, but I saw the writing on the wall in 2018. Stopped giving them money then. I only jump in and play with my Org. Since our org doesn't rely on CIG for game loops. We make our own scenarios and practice for what we want to do in the game, which is construction. We do not play the missions, we do not test "dynamic events". Because of how CIG is choosing to handle things. We do not participate in anything they want us too. The other issue here that most are failing to even acknowledge is that CR has handed the company over to a feminist. The entire company is dictated by the marketing dept. A dept that's headed by his feminist wife. Marketing dictates everything, from what gets worked on, to what gets released. Even if it's finished, marketing can come along and say nope, not releasing it. This is probably the single biggest problem. If CR wasn't such a simp and pulled his wannabe actress wife out of anything to do with the company. We'd be alot better off.

MM has killed SC for me and the thing that now f**ks me off more than anything in 2.17 the combat was 90% nailed down, it was lightning in a bottle it felt absolutely fantastic.. We've had 2 s**ty flight models since and they've been periodically worse, we are 10/11 years into development into a flight sim game were ships are front and centre of the game yet we don't have how they fly nailed down!
I log in, I wait 8 minutes for an elevator to show up, I wait 10 minutes for a tram to show up. I ride on tram, I log out, I can be geared up on dayZ in that amount of time. So sad 😞

But it also breeds misunderstanding and misinformation from people who don't even play the game seriously. When gamers watch stuff like this and think things are not going as planned. They need to pay more attention to multiple different youtubers. To understand what's really happening. This game is developed in phases. It's also developed in waves. Certain waves and phases can only happen when certain pieces of technology and polishing on those said technologies are finished. In order to finish those, it requires funding. There have been a few hiccups along the way, which is understandable. When developing a new type of gaming engine as well. As a new type of server meshing. The miss understanding and information going around about how Squadron 42 is a replacement starting to get annoying. When both games go hand-in-hand they cannot survive without the other. One is just the single player storyline that takes place in the same universe. They all use the same engine and the same technology. There are three waves of single player's stories planned for the universe. This wasn't some random out of the blue decision to replace StarCitizen. The company is on track to make more money this year than they made last year. They're up in sales not down.. And the hype is real because they've been ramping up player testing for 4.0 content.

Still amazes me that people think. A game on this scale can just be made in under ten years, When most of the technology that's going into, making this game doesn't even exist on a large-scale. Your title says... they are done. LOL. But they have already made 57 Million this year and on track to match last year. Pretty sure that, while painfully slow, they are going to keep moving forward. People need to be reminded that the main game loops all have a progression from small to large. Mining starts with HAND mining. Then ROC, then Prospector and finally Mole. Don't like mining? Don't do it. Bounties same... VLRT through ERT small to large needing better and bigger ships as you progress. Salvage is shaping up to be the same. Hand to Vulture to Reclaimer. And now cargo. Same. Hand tractor and small ship. Medium tractor for larger boxes and a larger ship and now Atlas with large ship. People that thought making millions in an hour with a few clicks and a short flight were normal are completely delusional. Otherwise I do agree in game ship prices need some balance relative to earning rates. Master Modes are going to be tweaked further for a more rock, paper, sissors kind of approach where we hull HP might actually make a diff. I do think CIG sucks at balancing LOL.

Your title says... they are done. LOL. But they have already made 57 Million this year and on track to match last year. Pretty sure that, while painfully slow, they are going to keep moving forward. People need to be reminded that the main game loops all have a progression from small to large. Mining starts with HAND mining. Then ROC, then Prospector and finally Mole. Don't like mining? Don't do it. Bounties same... VLRT through ERT small to large needing better and bigger ships as you progress. Salvage is shaping up to be the same. Hand to Vulture to Reclaimer. And now cargo. Same. Hand tractor and small ship. Medium tractor for larger boxes and a larger ship and now Atlas with large ship. People that thought making millions in an hour with a few clicks and a short flight were normal are completely delusional. Otherwise I do agree in game ship prices need some balance relative to earning rates. Master Modes are going to be tweaked further for a more rock, paper, sissors kind of approach where we hull HP might actually make a diff. I do think CIG sucks at balancing LOL.
