The original line from Kenner was nice. It's hard to really repeat that imo. I will say I saw the new line in Walmart months ago and thought they were ugly and cheap looking compared to the originals. The Mattel versions were nice updates but I didn't like the scale for the superhero line - but I loved the MOTU Classics for some reason which were in the same scale at the time.
I didn't like the faces for HE-MAN, Skeletor, and a few others, but I do like the retro MOTU figures. I thought Teela, Stratos, Evilyn, ScareGlow, and Man at Arms were well done
Lol! I love your impersonation of Michael French with the cardboard on your shoulders! You looked like a Mexican cartel leader I can't stop laughing! Michael is too serious and whingey for R my liking but you are funny Junkman.
At "the guy that dresses like a postman" i cracked ;) Anyway the new figures scale perfectly with the old ones (and yes they're advertised to do so on their website), even in the original line some toys were slightly taller and some were slightly smaller, Martian Manhunter for an instance was taller than Superman, while the Flash was very short. And btw, LOVED the ending! So, just to be clear: there are rules that try to avoid overlap between competing brands on the same licenses (so that, for an instance, McFarlane doesn't overlap with Spin Master, which is also currently doing DC figures), but since McFarlane is using different molds and scupltures from the old Kenner line, there is no rule stating that they can't be the exact same size as the old ones. The slight, very slight, difference in scale between some of the new McFarlane Super Powers and some of the old Kenner ones is purely incidental: the old toyline was produced in a 4.5" scale and so is the new one. The rules would forbid McFarlane to use that scale only if Spin Master was currently releasing toys based on the same characters with the same construction.
i love the the figures, they might not be 40 year old clones. but my 7 year old loves this line. it's not made for middle age Genx. it's made for kids! how hard is that to understand. someone who has no kids really can't say much.
The best spiritual continuation to Super Powers was by far the vintage Toy Biz DC figures! They were the same scale and sometimes used the same molds, and they did give us some characters Kenner never did, like Riddler, Two Face, and a Lex in a business suit.
@@Chris.Mc83 I actually found a Mr. Freeze at a yard sale last week, but the the helmet and ice guns broke off. My brother had, I think, all the Batman villains in the Toy Biz line.
I saw a similar video about the retro indiana jones line that he put up,and said it was all trash, but for those of us that never collected them in the 80s, these are fine to display, cause none of us want to pay hundreds of dollars for the actual kenner ones, which I agree are way better.
Yep, a reissue / remake is better then owning no figure at all, some of these vintage toylines have got too expensive for the average person to collect now
I collect figures to collect figures. I really enjoy the retro look of the Reaction line. They have a great selection of retro figures from popular culture, like Terminator,Alien,Friday the 13th,Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Universal movie monsters,GI JOE and Evil dead.
This is great. Nice to see a point counterpoint. I'd like to see you do this with some of Anals video. Can't disagree with the guy in his comment section without getting banned.
The McFarlane line isnt perfect but it does somethings right, the price point being one, being a affordable alternative to the vintage figures which are so expensive is another. Mistake's were: Wave 1 capes and the holes which they have now fixed, slight sculpting / colouring / standing stance mistakes vs vintage line. However its the best recreation we have had so far.
The argument of it being bad because it's slightly bigger than a different toy line made by a different toy maker over three decades ago is pretty stupid. Yeah they're in a retro-style, but they're still not the Kenner ones. He didn't bitch about the Star Wars Black Series, GI Joe classified, and many Transformers not being the same size as the original lines. I guess that was OK for some selective standards. I doubt that he has ever said anything nice about McFarlane, so I do think a lot of his rant was driven by a dislike for the maker without caring about how much McFarlane has done for the toy industry.
Kenner/Hasbro does not own the rights to 5 inch Super powers because ToyBiz made DC figures using the Kenner molds and they didn't get sued. If your argument was correct, then Hasbro couldn't make 6inch Marvel Legends since ToyBiz did it first. In fact, back in the 80s. Remco made knock off Masters of the Universe figures, Mattel tried to sue and the lawsuit was thrown out.
They didn’t get sued they just used the models and changed the figure. If McFarland wanted to do the same size and make total different style figures he can. Even same mold if its painted different. Well depends on what the DC deal with spin master is. Spin master might be locked to that size not sure
The best part about the postman dress insult, is that that is the same shirt that Harrison Ford wore in raiders of the Lost ark, also the concept of owning a specific scale is absolutely Ludacris. I've been collecting for a couple of decades, and I would consider myself fairly active in the toy community and I have never heard of the scale issue before. Again talking about the fact that these are supposed to be something different when they are clearly supposed to be for nostalgia, for people who either have the original figures, or remember having the original figures
Now I hate that shirt more. I am shocked people didn’t know you can make a toy look like other companies toys. Scale and style. Or license have a scale limited at times
@@ThatJunkman hey I guess it makes sense, you can trade mark anything these days why not scale and style? I just find it to be ridiculous, I certainly miss the days of companies competing with similar products, it was a whole lot more fun back then
I collect at scale when I can. Sometimes you can't. Either way you do it as a personal project, or is a personal preference. Who made this guy The Giver of the Law for collecting?
@@michaelmatthews2759 sure he's entitled to his opinion, but don't call anyone's other desires or wishes for a collection stupid. Who is he to say that. I really can barely tell the scale difference. Michael from Retroblasting is notoriously picky about accuracy. Sometimes its warranted critique, But I think Mcfarlane has made a product most fans are quite happy with. Kind of ignoring the spin master toyline as a reason for the licensing issue. The capes in the first wave had issues. Thin material and that plastic tie. But they improved the production with wonder womans cape being a lot better.
I think they got as close to scale as they could without ripping off the Kenner designs. Spin master seems more for kids. With McFarlane doing more for adults or collectors
The new figures scale just fine with the old ones, anyway he assumes they should because that's what McFarlane says on the website: "Compatible vehicles to go alongside the DC Super Powers Line, that fit both new and old figures"
Hahaha... he called himself a salty jackass. I do enjoy retroblasting videos for their restoration videos etc, I love your videos too. I just think retroblasting is really rigid in their analysis of stuff, whereas you are more fun loving and dont over analyse or suck the life out of things.
Given that the original Kenner Super Powers line is so popular till this day, with originals like a carded and graded Cyborg going up for thousands of $, with these many re-editions by other companies I really don't understand why Kenner (Hasbro) won't continue the line exactly the same way as before, not a single change needed or wanted. I think they would make a lot of profit.
You know sometimes when you go in on Retroblasting and Analog Toys, you kinda remind me of Roger from Guiding Light and the way he used to go in on the Spaulding and Lewis families because he felt they persecuted him for no reason.
I’m glad Todd is making Super Powers again. I’ve been wanting to add more figures to the original line and It’s great to be able to collect and share them with my little boy. These ‘vintage’ collectors are afraid of the resale value of their collection. Nuff said!
I picked up some of the New Super Powers Figures and they scale fine with the Vintage Line - they’re just a tad larger; and for $10 in Walmart they are great! McFarlane made Nightwing; the updated Robin all-grown-up; the beefier Frank Miller Batman; Deathstroke; etc. So, they can “play” with your other action figures perfectly well and they display very well together, and the size difference is akin to the Original Super Powers Line next to the Original Marvel’s Secret Wars and the size difference is negligible 💥
Toy Biz was able to straight up mold and bootleg Kenner Super Powers in '89 for Robin, Penguin and Mr Freeze and only barely copy and retool others like Superman (but I'm not complaining ; I wish they had leaned into that and just rereleased the entire kenner line).
I called him out on his ridiculous BS rant about the height difference. The figures are 1/8 to 1/4" taller, that's it! from a distance no one will notice or care! Also, imagine if McFarlane only released "missing characters" from the original line. You launch a new line with C and D-list characters, no Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc etc because those were already done before, and expect it to be a hit? No wonder he was embarrassed on that debate with Toy Guru when we are clearly seeing he has no business sense what so ever. EDIT: i also remember when McFarlane released his Multiverse line collectors of the Mattel line were freaking out because they ere 7", not 6" and they would not look good with their old collection. Here we are 3 or so years later and no one has said anything since.
I can see this Super Powers line being both retro and an homage. They have released figures that were in the original line (like Superman and Batman) and newer characters (like the Batman who Laughs and John Stewart's Green Lantern) in a similar style to the original line. That fool is just looking for reasons to complain about the McFarlane Super Powers figures. "Hope his wife doesn't worry about size that much" is a great line, and it assumes he has a wife.
Hey Jinkman, I bet if stan solo made them mr French would be creaming himself. Lol. You know you're picking on someone on the spectrum right? Keep up the great work!

As someone who has a complete collection of loose and carded Kenner Super Powers figures, I do agree with Retroblasting that the McFarlane Super Powers line being out of scale with the Kenner figures has dissuaded me from collecting the line. I had planned to fillout my Kenner collection with McFarlane figures, but with them being talker than the original Kenner ones, they don’t display well together. Did pick up the Batwing and maybe the Supermobile if it goes on sale, but don’t plan to buy anymore figures than the few I’ve already purchased. It is great to see the Super Powers cards back on toy shelves and I hope current collectors are enjoying the line, but since I don’t want to start a separate Super Powers collection, I will just stick with the Kenner figures. Also, I’ve never heard of a toy company owning the rights to a scale of figures as the reason you give for McFarlane to make his Super Powers line taller than the Kenner figures. Hasbro/Kenner may have the rights to the Kenner Super Powers molds, but I don’t see why McFarlane couldn’t have made his Super Powers figures the exact height of the Kenner figures since the McFarlane molds are completely different and his figures don’t have the super power action feature. You mention Gentle Giant had to make jumbo figures of vintage Kenner Star Wars figures because Hasbro/Kenner has the rights to 3 3/4” Star Wars figures. That makes sense because Gentle Giant figures were based on the Kenner molds, which is why Gentle Giant couldn’t make 3 3/4” scaled figures, because then they would have been duplicates of Kenner figures and subject to copyright claims. But, as I said before, even if McFarlane had made his figures the same height as Kenner Super Powers, the molds are different so, I believe, because I am not a copyright lawyer or deal with any toy contracts, Hasbro/Kenner could not claim copyright infringement against McFarlane Toys.
I find them ok they seem nice I don’t collect them but I think its cool for someone who collect the line I always think its a good opportunity to either add new figs or redo a collection for the nostalgic Dunno why all the fuss if people don’t like them don’t buy them mcferlane. Doesn’t twist your arms to buy their products Dunno but lately retro blast is never happy with a product Great video junkman
I see Michael French is still making ad revenue by complaining that the toy industry would be great if the manufacturers just did something different. What should have been done differently? Depends on what he is complaining about. It doesn't matter the line. It doesn't matter the company. He always enumerates some quality that would make the property great but sadly was never realized. I just don't understand the appeal of seeing a grown man sitting there, looking sad as if the cool kids just made fun of him, complaining all the time. ALL THE TIME. And notice that he specifically says "All my interest went away" and then talks about the line in a level of detail that defies that statement. It's important to say you don't like the thing you are making a 30 minute video about -particularly when that is the focus of your entire channel.
The thing I don't really care for is that the figures don't scale well with the vehicles. No one fits in the part of the supermobile that is supposed to hold captured figures. It's the same issue with the he-man cgi talon fighter
@@MarkERoth true, but I still say it's a fun vehicle, especially w the Zod I got from early 2000s? Plus I got a man of steel kryptonite armor Supes and all his spacesuit pieces fit in there. Still room for ww in the boot, I'm good.
Gentle Giant doesn't make 4" figures because they can't, but because it's not the Modus Operandi of the company. They specialize in making oversized figures in the style of the jumbo vinyl toys of the late 70s like Shogun Warriors. I'm fairly certain DC has the master rights to their properties, so anyone who would want to make Super Powers style figures in that classic size can.
And they couldn’t even they wanted. At least not the same style Size yes, with the super power name and style, that’s totally something else. Also they can’t do a line that seem to compete with the spin master dc deal.
@@ThatJunkman It depends on DCs agreements with the companies. As I said, I think they have master control over their properties which means they own the look, style, and name of Super Powers. If they said that McFarland could make them in the classic way Mattel can't do anything since they don't own the designs and Spinmaster can't do anything because of their agreements with DC.
Depends now hat the Spin Master deal is, most likely they are locked to a size deal. But things can always been worked out. Funko could only release Indiana Jones pop in the theme park due to the deal Hasbro and Lucasfilm had. However it seem they have reached deal and now Funko will make pops. True we dont the deals of all side deals but its hard to believe Hasbro would just roll over someone using the super power names and making figures that look like the old line in the same colors, styles and size. At the end also could be MacFarlane didnt want to even get close to doing a copy cat line, as it could be a legal headache just in case :)
I haven't seen the new ones yet but I think complaining that they're bigger and not scaled right is a legitimate complaint. It's just basic common sense. Make them the correct/matching size. It's all about playability. One of the best things about the standard 3 &3/4 scale was that I got a Super Friends/ Super Powers Batmobile off eBay years ago and was able to place a Batman the Animated Series Batman & Robin in it. They looked great in it! If one of those lines had been out of scale-I would'a been out of luck. A standard size keeps us comin back and we can mix 'em up. Now you take the MEGO style. You have 2 companies making DC figures in 8 inch format in competition: Figures Toy Co. and MEGO. they're both putting out some of the same characters in the same size. So why not McFarlane ? If legally he couldn't then maybe he should'a waited until he could.
But it wasn’t made to be a replacement or remake of the Kenner like. Just inspired by them. If they said it was to be and it want I get the complaining. They can do the same size but they can’t do the same style in the same size on the same card. Also they have things they can’t do cause Spin master has the rights to it.
@@ThatJunkman I see what you're saying and see your frustration in the video. So what should have McFarlane done? He shouldn't have done the line at all or he should've used his clout to get a contract for a size which is the same. I'm serious when I say that. Who are these figures targeting? They're targeting the old-times like you and me. So why do it if you can't do the new figures in the same scale? He wants to attract the collectors who remember the line, who are sentimental for the old line, who are adults now = who actually have the money to buy lots of characters. I don't think these figures will appeal to modern collectors because they look too cartoonish. Not realistic enough. McFarlane should'a demanded that he could make them in the same scale or left it alone. I know you and Michael/Retroblasting have you disagreements and issues but I think of all the criticisms the size/scale is the most valid.
I think you've discovered a new character. You could call him Gatekeeperman & he could be a variant from the Junkman Multiverse. His version of Larry J Wampa could be an angry bald Australian. The Junkman multiverse variant I want to see would be Wokeman. 🤣🤣
Junkman you should look at the new Batman and Robin figure + the new Batmobile coming in june those look great and fun i pre order all 3 !!! Cant wait to get them !!!
I saw these figures at Walmart a few months ago and they all looked cool. However, I don’t buy them because it’s just how I am. I can care less if some kid buys one because they wanna play with it, and I’m ok with it. To each their own, I’ll stick to what I like, and they’ll stick to what they like. What Michael here did was what it is called “attention grabbing”. Maybe he saw it at Walmart and thought “oh this would be good for new content, i can make money off of telling all the bad stuff about this one figure!” and then have the audience try to counteract those arguments. If I were to say my own opinion about a rerelease of an original vintage figure placed as a retro figure, I would do a comparison segment and then talk about how well modeled the figure looks compared to the original. Sure every figure has it’s flaw, there’s no such thing as a perfect figure. But that’s what makes it a toy. Yeah adults will want accuracy to the on-screen character, but kids will want to grab it without a second thought. As long as they got what they want, they’ll play with it for a long time. What I don’t understand is how Michael is ok with how old Star Wars and G.I. Joe figures look, but then has a problem with modern day toy companies trying their best to recreate an original or revitalize an original. Personally, I would just not listen to him or AnalToys talking about modern incarnations of originals and I’ll buy what makes me interested in wanting.
Junkman,19:06, I lost it😂! You are too much! Now I had the whole super powers line when I was in my twenties. Am I gonna buy these McFarlanes, no. I already have the vintage line that I wanted. These are nice, maybe I'll get the vehicles or playsets, but I'm already content. Good looking line of figs, especially for a new collector, like I was in the 80s.
I really wish they'd stop making DC lines lowkey Batman sub collections. Theres already several Batman variants in this line(and more to come) The original Super Powers was very diversified.
They are pretty much the exact same size, maybe the McFarlane ones are a few millimeters bigger. They look fine together. I wonder if Mike measures his milk to make sure he gets a full gallon.
McFarlane made an improvement on the new Wonder Woman's red cape by not attaching it to the back of the card so the cape will not have a hole in it. She is a nice addition to the latest Wave 3 of these figures and they gave her a part classic retro Wonder Woman look and also a part modern day Wonder Woman look so she is a nice figure. Deathstroke and Nightwing are also nice figures but I think that Nightwing should be a little less muscular for his particular figure but he's fine other than that. These figures are still nice and great especially at their cheap prices and their availability at most Wal-Mart stores.
What happened to Michael frenchs jawline. It was sharp and now its rounder than my dads beer belly . Junkman is 50 and he still looks younger than retro bastard.
I'm really not a fan of the new figures' sculpts and oversized capes. There are a few of the McFarlane Super Powers figures I'd like to get, like Deathstroke and reverse Flash, but that's about it so far. The vehicles are actually nice so far.

At "the guy that dresses like a postman" i cracked ;)
Anyway the new figures scale perfectly with the old ones (and yes they're advertised to do so on their website), even in the original line some toys were slightly taller and some were slightly smaller, Martian Manhunter for an instance was taller than Superman, while the Flash was very short.
AnalBlasting hasn't made any good videos since he stopped "fixing" vintage toys years ago.
The best spiritual continuation to Super Powers was by far the vintage Toy Biz DC figures! They were the same scale and sometimes used the same molds, and they did give us some characters Kenner never did, like Riddler, Two Face, and a Lex in a business suit.
I think I had the Mr Freeze from that collection.
@@Chris.Mc83 I actually found a Mr. Freeze at a yard sale last week, but the the helmet and ice guns broke off. My brother had, I think, all the Batman villains in the Toy Biz line.
OMG, those cardboard shoulder straps are hilarious ! 🤣🤣🤣
Have they made a new Martian Manhunter in the line yet? He was always my favorite character from DC.
Not yet
"Dresses like a 50s postman" 😂
18:06 I almost shot coffee out my nose! Give me a warning next time. 😆
I saw a similar video about the retro indiana jones line that he put up,and said it was all trash, but for those of us that never collected them in the 80s, these are fine to display, cause none of us want to pay hundreds of dollars for the actual kenner ones, which I agree are way better.
I saw he had a indy video but I am sure it turn in to a gay bro jerk off about how great Stan Solo fake figures are
@@ThatJunkman yep he loves Stan Solo toys it seems
100%
I would say he dresses more like a county dog catcher going on expedition in the Sahara.
Why does he act like the toy companys should custom make the toys for him

What I really liked was the Corgi Jr's style Supermobile
I was one of the kids who didn't like gimmicks. At least once I got a bit older. Now I hate too much articulation lol
@@theequalizer9154 see I think that's the real issue people take with these videos, it's just his opinion which he is entitled to.
@@michaelmatthews2759 sure he's entitled to his opinion, but don't call anyone's other desires or wishes for a collection stupid. Who is he to say that. I gave my opinion, and I'm not insulting anyone. Problem is with that guy, he gives an opinion, and he's like a kid about it he's never going to grow up.
Keep up the great videos brother I’m waiting for another toy run vid!👏🙏
Glad Junkman took the high road and didn’t make any inappropriate personal comments about looks, appearance and masculinity.
Same
Given that the original Kenner Super Powers line is so popular till this day, with originals like a carded and graded Cyborg going up for thousands of $, with these many re-editions by other companies I really don't understand why Kenner (Hasbro) won't continue the line exactly the same way as before, not a single change needed or wanted. I think they would make a lot of profit.
I'm not collecting these to put with vintage ones, so the slight difference in scale doesn't bother me. I'm collecting them for the nostalgic aspect.
You know sometimes when you go in on Retroblasting and Analog Toys, you kinda remind me of Roger from Guiding Light and the way he used to go in on the Spaulding and Lewis families because he felt they persecuted him for no reason.
Roger was a bad ass
RB & Analog toys are like BFF's ... if one says its good the other one copies, they are like a single unified brain, i find it hilarious
I wonder if this guy will do a revenge video bagging Junkman?
Bro Retroblasting is kinda weird though, right? He’s like that kid who never had friends, so he just pretended his toys were his friends.
The toy biz line doesn't scale well with mcfarlane/ Kenner superpower 😂😂😂
Very surprised you refrained from swearing! 😂 Love the videos. Stevo🤘
I like them! Got Batman/Darksied
He's a toddler upset because he wanted the same scale thinking the world revolves around him
From photos, they look just 1/4” taller
LOL you're dance video I thought was a try out for bud light 😮😅😂
Hey Jinkman, I bet if stan solo made them mr French would be creaming himself. Lol. You know you're picking on someone on the spectrum right? Keep up the great work!
I meant Junkman
Without a doubt

THESE ARE TOYS....ALL of you nerds crapping on retro are in the same league....DONT FORGET THAT! NERDS! Retro is a class act and with opinions that come from an era that is forgotten and not appreciated.....retro is good dude that I would have easily a capably defended in school. I was a jock with brains that gave a voice to the silent majority.
True dat
Considering Kenner didn’t invent 3 3/4 scale, (Adventure People, anyone?) I don’t see how anyone can OWN a scale.
💯!! Great video 😊
I find them ok they seem nice I don’t collect them but I think its cool for someone who collect the line
I always think its a good opportunity to either add new figs or redo a collection for the nostalgic
Dunno why all the fuss if people don’t like them don’t buy them mcferlane. Doesn’t twist your arms to buy their products
Dunno but lately retro blast is never happy with a product
Great video junkman
I think the only reason they're so cheap is because they're direct to Walmart.
The thing I don't really care for is that the figures don't scale well with the vehicles. No one fits in the part of the supermobile that is supposed to hold captured figures. It's the same issue with the he-man cgi talon fighter
My vintage wonder woman fits in there, and I have a Zod that fits in there too.
@danieljohn7788 the key word being vintage. Do any of the new figures fit?
At least not the same style
Size yes, with the super power name and style, that’s totally something else.
@@ThatJunkman that's very true, or he just wanted to make the figures the way he did.
Great video, Junkman!
Mission statement? He really thinks he's in the military !
The same angry youtuber just dumped on the retro Indiana Jones figures as well while promoting more bootlegs from Stan the Con man ....
I can’t prove but I think he gets a cut. It’s odd how he makes so many of those videos
You've done a video with this guy before, I'm old enough to remember it.
7:53 The scream I just scrumpt!😂
I think you've discovered a new character. You could call him Gatekeeperman & he could be a variant from the Junkman Multiverse. His version of Larry J Wampa could be an angry bald Australian. The Junkman multiverse variant I want to see would be Wokeman. 🤣🤣
That would be funny.
I own 4 of the new McFarlane super powers figures and i love them there really cool
Lol...the dance cut away!!!
Sadly, I couldn’t leave in the long cut
I really wish they'd stop making DC lines lowkey Batman sub collections. Theres already several Batman variants in this line(and more to come) The original Super Powers was very diversified.
They are pretty much the exact same size, maybe the McFarlane ones are a few millimeters bigger. They look fine together. I wonder if Mike measures his milk to make sure he gets a full gallon.
Kenner is 3.76 and new is 4.00
18:15 ....Hahah. Retros woke!
I have a relative named Randy Kimberlin his Batman's Nightwing MacFarlane's the doors of the top broke off easily
Wtf is he talking about??? They scale well with Kenner line?🤷♂️Wtf is he talking about 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol you crossed the line a couple of times bro😂😂😂😂 He’s got every right to come back and tear u up like Chris Rock😂😂😂🤙🏻
Ok. No issue with that. I’m not 7 even if I might look like it
McFarlane made an improvement on the new Wonder Woman's red cape by not attaching it to the back of the card so the cape will not have a hole in it.
It was sharp and now its rounder than my dads beer belly
I get that. And makes better than sense
