At 43 years old to be getting Super Powers , Motu Origins , GI Joe and TMNT classics is like us reliving our childhood . What a time to be a adult collector !!
I remember being so poor, I took kid modeling jobs to put Superman and Batman on lay-away. I was young and unsure if they would actually be there when I got paid on my birthday. They were there. I saved, searched liquor store parking lots, and pay phones for money to get Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, Mantis, Dr. Fate, and Firestorm. I also got SW's Captain America (first superhero figure I owned), Spider-Man, Iron Man, Kang, Dr. Doom, and Dr. Octopus. The SP figures had the best scultping. The MacFarlane figures, though, yeah, not so much. The new vehicles are cool, though.
The cape quality on these and the fact that they have a hole through them is inexcusable even at $10. That Batwing will be nice addition for OG Super Powers collectors.
It’s not surprising that this video showed up in my recommendations given my interests in all things 80’s and superheroes, but lo and behold I discovered something else: It’s Jay! Of the Jay and Jack Lost Podcast! The Married Man podcast! The Ramblecast! Glad to see you!
Another great video, best part is your hand as you walk the figures around the hall of justice made me laugh out loud it just reminded me of doing this as a kid :)
Oh wow, I had that Mr Freeze and Plastic Man from that last wave. If only I knew back then, what I knew today. Shame they didn't do the light piping for Darkseid like the original had for the light up eyes.
My Walmart got the display you showed. It was pretty cool seeing them. Bought a whole wave but my only issue is paint quality control. I had to pick through a lot of the same figures to find one decently painted toy.
I discovered these at Walmart this weekend while grocery shopping and almost crapped my pants. This was my favorite toy line as a kid and I've been craving a re-release/reboot for ages. Posted my own review yesterday - but you absolutely nailed everything about them, especially the capes. I really hope this line can grown and expand like MotU Origins has!
Man ole man... your Super Powers collection is absolutely beautiful, I know I've told you that a bunch of times already but it needs to be said as much as possible. I finally saw the end cap display in person today at a Walmart in Maryland, it was fairly picked clean but I did manage to find a Green Lantern in really good shape, good card and good paint apps on the figure. It's a shame how a lot of them had bad paint apps, I've only really noticed that on GL and Superman. I really love that McFarlane is giving us these, especially the vehicles, they are really fun toys and the best part is they are toys meant to be played with and enjoyed, not something to do with what I usually do, pose the figure and put it on a shelf to be admired from afar. And I did actually ask an employee about if they throw the end cap displays away and if so if I could have it and he said they have to send it back to the company, but it's ok, I don't need it and have nowhere to put it anyway. Yet another person in this world to think I'm crazy, oh well, haha
Been a while since i worked retail but those things 100% went in the trash, we told customers otherwise when we planned on keeping the display ourselves. Same when i worked at a theater. Not saying thats currently the case, but what business wants retailers to send back busted up cardboard displays for an outdated toy line? And why would they?
I bought the Batman figure and the Batwing vehichle (it was almost $30 at my local Wal-Mart) . As much as I loved the original line, I'm a bit disappointed with these new figures. One of the fun things about the original Kenner line was the gimmicky super power action of the figures. Some worked better than others, but they were fun. I much prefer the look of the figures in the original line as well. Despite it having simular articulation as the original line , my figure's arms and legs were almost a chore to move (to be fair this is a common thing with many figures today). The hole in the cape is stupid and inexcusable. I couldn't believe that it was done that way on purpose when i started to remove the figure. So while I was surprised and excited to see those figures in the store today, I was actaully let down when I got home. I wish I had seen the review before I purchased the figure and Batwing (it's okay, but I paid too much for it.)
I wish so much that these figures were the same scale as the original toys, not noticeably larger. It would have felt like a true continuation of the old Super Powers toyline.
Just an idea for the collectors - maybe try and get your hands on a super powers display from Walmart itself - would look amazing to display your collection. I don’t live in the US so no chance for me
I’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t do an accurate reboot - it was have been amazing, and I’d have bought them all! Things like a black bat symbol on a Batman that has a classical bright blue costume seem odd to me and a lost opportunity. Should have been black and yellow. It’s doubly strange as they have the correct one in the batwing itself. Still it’s pretty cool, just that ppl would have gone crazy for the originals…
I haven't seen John Stewart yet, but I grabbed the rest of the line the moment I saw them. The Supermobile has to be the cheesiest thing I've ever bought. I LOVE it.
Showing the commercials from the past was just great, I was able to understand the hype from the 80's! I hope they introduce more waves in the futures! And that Hall of Justice was SICK!! They definitely have to remake that!
Wonder Woman should have been included in the reboot wave one. The Green Lantern should have been pushed to the second wave. In my opinion McFarlane Toys dropped the ball big time when they decided to launch this reboot without Wonder Woman being available.
I FINALLY got my hands on mine today after checking every Walmart for weeks. Glad to have it, but disappointed in the hole in the cape, and the lack of the squeeze leg-punch action.
Looks like a really promising line if Todd sticks on it and improves on its flaws. I hope they sell well enough so we get a wave 2 and maybe some never released characters like Deadman and Swamp Thing.
It seems so inconsistent. You bring back a toy line from the ‘80s so that you can give us Jim Lee Batman? Which might seem in place if they updated Superman to be, say, Rebirth Superman, but the Superman looks straight out of the ‘80s
I was kinda out on this line when I found out it wasn’t exactly the same scale as the original but when I saw the display in Walmart I couldn’t help myself and picked up all of it. Definitely glad I did ….bring on the rest here’s my money
Once they release that batman in gray and blue, I'm diving in! ... I mean, there's no way they aren't doing a simple repaint for Batman. They can't break their streak! Hopefully they fix the faces as well next wave. Superboy has some crazy iris issues going on... or is that Superman? Either way, awesome to see the red trunks!
aside from the cape issues my only gripe is the narrow stance the figures have, makes them a bit harder to just keep up right. I dont mind the modern sculping on the figures. Im seeing people complain that they dont look like the vintage figures but as McFarlane has shown he is not about doing what was already done, with some exceptions. Im hoping we do get more variations of the characters from throughout their history going as far back as the Golden Age. And also more than just 4 figures per wave.
Finally got Superman and he is pretty cool. The capes need to be improved for sure but its a fun figure for sure. Its okay there is no action feature, because sometimes they stop working.
Agree that the price points are astounding! I hope the keep them there. So many figures Id love to pick up that I had in my youth but good lord they are soooo overpriced
I picked up the Superman figure. It reminds me of the pre Crisis Superman. I can only hope a Dr. Fate figure (Wish I'd kept the one I had as a kid) and a Jay Garrick figure are in the future. I've always loved the JSA .
I had to get the John Stuart and darkseid I don’t think I’ll get them all but I will get ones I like. Looking forward to where it goes! Wonder if he’ll go vac metal ish
Cool video! I love that you have the originals! Super Powers was before my time, but it DEFINITELY looks like something I would have been into. I already have Superman and I'm holding out for a classic Batman and Green Arrow. Now I usually try to stick to figures (I don't have a lot of space for playsets and stuff), but I might make an exception if they release the Fortress of Solitude or The Batmobile!
I can't find GL anywhere and the holes in the capes have been making me cry like a toddler...otherwise while I DO love this series so far and hope it goes far and wide, they need to pick a lane and stick with it; the Superman package and toy both look very much like the original, while the Batman is from the early 2000's...quite inconsistent. I'm hopeful, but some things need tweeking. They need mail-away replacements for the capes, as these holes are awful. Also, I hope we get a 1/1 remake of the Super Powers Batmobile in wave 2...it's my favorite toy version and McFarlane can do that one right, I'm sure, and maybe even give it a detachable roof? Wave 2 should include Robin, Wonder Woman, Joker and Lex Luthor, along with the Batmobile and LexSoar7. A Hall of Justice is too much to wish for, but I've said the same about Eternia...
I like the vehicles. The figures fall short but I am optimistic that subsequent series of figures will improve. I was not a fan of the Batman and Superman figures when I saw them on the shelf.
Being old enough to have bought the originals when they came out (though sadly not all of them - hard to come by in the UK), I was so pleased to see this series from McFarlane - but told myself i'd only pick up Batman... then I saw Green Lantern and Flash - had to get them... then saw Darkseid instore and was surprised how much I liked him, so had to get him too - only Superman to get now, as I'm not interested in the Batman Who Laughs, and the Batwing.
I wonder if McFarlane toys is going to do there own versions of the Kenner 90's batman figures or at least give us a Micheal Keaton batman figure part of me feels like they working their way towards that possibly
46 still buying DC heroes. But when my kids were little I bought them Superman and the flash from that Kenner line in 2007. My oldest like the flash and hid little brother liked superman. But he was more of and iron man fan! Lol!
Hall Jordan is the definitive Green lantern to me. Not John Stewart . But the John Stewart . green lantern figure looks great. Though. But any ways these figures. Are very affordable. And cool . But I hope they will have the classic darkseid . McFarland version. Inn the near future. I think this modern version is i the coolest one. Of all the first wave .But all of them so far are really Awesome for that price. Too .
Im really glad this exists. Im not old enough to buy the original, so withe these price... Amazing! I hope they release Batman animated series toy line, 😍. And follow with the JLU figure line.
I've yet to find the Batwing around me for $19.99 . . . They have it priced at $24.99 and even $29.99 at every Walmart in my area (and I've been to around 10 at this point) -- I finally broke down and bought one at the $24.99 price point, uugh!
At 43 years old to be getting Super Powers , Motu Origins , GI Joe and TMNT classics is like us reliving our childhood . What a time to be a adult collector !!
You're 100% right Robert!
Totally agree !!!
Comment of the month
Toy Biz Superman. Underrated!
Wish I had the money to buy them all!!
I remember being so poor, I took kid modeling jobs to put Superman and Batman on lay-away. I was young and unsure if they would actually be there when I got paid on my birthday. They were there. Awesome. Got the first wave here in Australia. They are in K-Mart stores for only $9 each. Looking forward to the other waves hitting stores.
Great job J! I actually have been collecting this line. Just missing the superman and Batman jets. Great vids!
Thanks Nick! Good to hear from ya friend. Check the big Walmarts I still run into them. Brier Creek and Triangle Town Center have been stocked
@@GeekDadLife will do. Going to check out more of your vids on my break today. You done any of the xmen legends line?
It’s not surprising that this video showed up in my recommendations given my interests in all things 80’s and superheroes, but lo and behold I discovered something else:
It’s Jay! Of the Jay and Jack Lost Podcast! The Married Man podcast! The Ramblecast!
Glad to see you!
A Wonder Woman Invisible (clear?) jet would be awesome as well as a Legion of Doom playset.
YES I would love that!
yep! i was talking to a fellow Super powers collector, that it would be Cool if Ww invisible jet would look like a F22 raptor😁
Didn’t think of that. Would be awesome, and easy to make. Honestly now that you’ve mentioned it it seems strange they didn’t do it already!
Another great video, best part is your hand as you walk the figures around the hall of justice made me laugh out loud it just reminded me of doing this as a kid :)
Hahah, that's what I was going for 😂
I love the line and McFarlane should definitely be commended for the price. Figures are getting waaaay overpriced so this is def a enticing change.
Yeah I had to look through a few as well, but it was terrible overall
Same. But I found really nice representations in 2 or three Blisters. Only hard one was Superman's curly cue and his blue eyes.
I didn't notice until I got home, but I can barely see my GL's ring, while the one in this video is way more vibrant :(
Found them at my Walmart this morning, loving the Green Lantern.
YES me too!
I haven’t picked these up yet but have them on my list. I loved the original line! Great video!
I discovered these at Walmart this weekend while grocery shopping and almost crapped my pants. This was my favorite toy line as a kid and I've been craving a re-release/reboot for ages. I wish they also had Wonder Woman and Shazam (Captain Marvel) figures.
Shazam would have been wise
I've got a Superman figure somewhere in the attic, that I was sure was from the Superpowers range, but he had a hard plastic cape. 🤔
I bought the Batman figure and the Batwing vehichle (it was almost $30 at my local Wal-Mart) . As much as I loved the original line, I'm a bit disappointed with these new figures. All I want is for McFarlane to release the unfinished Darkseid Playset.
That would be AMAZING, hope it comes true!
Ditto!
Just an idea for the collectors - maybe try and get your hands on a super powers display from Walmart itself - would look amazing to display your collection. I don’t live in the US so no chance for me

Still it’s pretty cool, just that ppl would have gone crazy for the originals…
I hear you. Just re release the originals in same styles. Darkseid looks horrible. The original was so dope.
Low key, that’s a noice vintage Super Powers collection, my guy!
I pray this line goes deeper than Batman...Batman...and more Batman.
Dude... your voice. I knew it the second I heard it. I used to LOVE your Lost podcast back in the day!
Haha thank you Rich, welcome to my more geeky endeavor lol
I have a Matchbox sized Supermobile by Corgi from my childhood. It’s awesome seeing a large scale version.
I haven't seen John Stewart yet, but I grabbed the rest of the line the moment I saw them. The Supermobile has to be the cheesiest thing I've ever bought. I LOVE it.
5:50 ahhh, classic Kenner approach. Oh how I miss M.A.S.K....
...but am not disappointed by the extra articulation and enhancements Ramen is planning.
Do they come with the mini comic book? Thanks for these toys I started reading comic books in the '80s.
Excellent video! Very informative and entertaining.
I hope they do the joker, moreover I hope they recreate the Kenner Batman 1989 figures
Showing the commercials from the past was just great, I was able to understand the hype from the 80's!
I hope they introduce more waves in the futures!
And that Hall of Justice was SICK!! They definitely have to remake that!
Thanks, I like finding old commercials to throw in as well :)
Wonder Woman should have been included in the reboot wave one. The Green Lantern should have been pushed to the second wave. In my opinion McFarlane Toys dropped the ball big time when they decided to launch this reboot without Wonder Woman being available.
You're so right. A lot of missed opportunities here really. This line up baffles me. The figures themselves have 0 nostalgia factor
I heard a rumour (not sure how true) that the wave after next will have Wonder Woman and Reverse Flash.
Why would they package it with a hole in the cape?
Great quality overview of the figures im excited about how great of a value these figures are… so much fun!!
They really are a great value!
I FINALLY got my hands on mine today after checking every Walmart for weeks. Glad to have it, but disappointed in the hole in the cape, and the lack of the squeeze leg-punch action.
In the Arnold's terminators voice;
" I've been waiting for you"!
WOW!!... I didn't knew this was in the making, I have several vintage super powers, I will definitely will look for them!
Tell ya one thing , , , ,that Batwing is AWESOME , hope the make another one in black or dark grey , , , ,
My Walmart has the bathing for $30 in stores. I'm waiting to catch it online
I live for the thumbnails of Jay hugging toys now.
🤣🤣🤣
The Gl looks so good. My favorite so far.
Really hoping the Aquaman gets to be as good.
Great retrospective and review!!
Hello where get ur figure and where buy?
Where can you get these at
Looks like a really promising line if Todd sticks on it and improves on its flaws.
It’s the best line out of Mcfarlane in my opinion. Hope he goes deep into the characters catalog with this line
I was kinda out on this line when I found out it wasn’t exactly the same scale as the original but when I saw the display in Walmart I couldn’t help myself and picked up all of it. Definitely glad I did ….bring on the rest here’s my money
fantastic video and breakdown
Once they release that batman in gray and blue, I'm diving in! ... I mean, there's no way they aren't doing a simple repaint for Batman. They can't break their streak!
Hopefully they fix the faces as well next wave. Superboy has some crazy iris issues going on... or is that Superman? Either way, awesome to see the red trunks!
Yeah, hopefully they get better and better! The promise is there!
I still have my super powers Superman figure I had as a child, he lost his cape but I found a seller on eBay to replace with :)
aside from the cape issues my only gripe is the narrow stance the figures have, makes them a bit harder to just keep up right.
Kenner messed up by not having new versions of Bats and Supes in wave 3. Might have kept the Super Powers line around longer.
Finally got Superman and he is pretty cool. The capes need to be improved for sure but its a fun figure for sure. Its okay there is no action feature, because sometimes they stop working.
I had 3 complete sets back in the 80's, selling off when laid off, have some loose unpunched carded flash
Agree that the price points are astounding! I hope the keep them there. So many figures Id love to pick up that I had in my youth but good lord they are soooo overpriced
Does the conflict with the Spinmaster line? I thought Mcfarlane couldn't do small figures.
I picked up the Superman figure. It reminds me of the pre Crisis Superman. I can only hope a Dr. Fate figure (Wish I'd kept the one I had as a kid) and a Jay Garrick figure are in the future. I've always loved the JSA .
I've been waiting so long for a Super Powers revival. The dream would be having this line to cover as much characters as the JLU line.
The late 70s had Corgi Jr's,die cast, fists pop out when u pressed down on the rocket exhaust
Man, I wish these weren't $20+ where I live, but if they make a Hal Jordan... I'm not gonna lie, I'd buy it on sight.
Great review! Those look awesome! Just not what I collect.
I’m so excited about these!
They're really fun!
Great price point and can't wait to see where they take this toy line.
Dam!! in Puerto Rico this figures are $12.12 and the two vehicles $36.26 😬
The figures are indeed nice, but they need to fix the holes in capes issue.
I got the Toy Biz Robin to fit in the Supermobile jail cell
100% Agree with you.
I'm there. I want the Hall of Justice, much improved version of it, but I want it!!
I’ve only found the Batwing so far but I do love it.
The potential is huge, I just hope McFarlane sees that!
I just ordered my figures from Walmart! they didn't have the vehicles or Green Lantern, but I'll keep an eye out
Hopefully more and more show up!
Mcfarlene should've given us his version of marvel universe. A nice articulated 4 inch figure with a comic book
How cool. I have all but two of the original figures. I might collect some of these. Only new characters not from the original line.
This is my favorite toy line right now 🙂
I like the vehicles. The figures fall short but I am optimistic that subsequent series of figures will improve. I was not a fan of the Batman and Superman figures when I saw them on the shelf.
The Toyline look’s dope yet it’s lacking the Mini comic’s and action joint’s included in the original line.
I had no clue Green Lantern was even part of this wave
I want that Batwing NOW!
I'm needing to replace my lost figures, so I'm happy....
The Retro Renaissance continues!
Indeed!
Flash and The Batman Who Laughs are the next wave. Odd choice in TBWL, but I’ll likely get it as I’m a completionist.
I wonder if McFarlane toys is going to do there own versions of the Kenner 90's batman figures or at least give us a Micheal Keaton batman figure part of me feels like they working their way towards that possibly
That would be awesome!
Memories...
i still haven't seen them at a walmart
Oh man I haven't seen the Bat Wing anywhere, only the lame Supermobile. This is exciting.
this seems like its for MOC collectors. They are beautiful. I never got into super powers so its not for me but I think its neat
Hello from Boston comic con!
Hey Rick!
46 still buying DC heroes. But when my kids were little I bought them Superman and the flash from that Kenner line in 2007. My oldest like the flash and hid little brother liked superman. But he was more of and iron man fan! Lol!
Thanks for this review. It helped me decide to pass on this.
These look awesome. I just wish McFarlane had nailed the scale.
Picked up the batman and batwing absolutely fantastic ... I see only good things for Mcfarlane if he continues this line... 👍👍👍
My dad used to take me to Toys “R” Us every weekend and he would buy me superpowers action figures.
That sounds like a wonderful memory, thank you for the share!
I've yet to find the Batwing around me for $19.99 . . . They have it priced at $24.99 and even $29.99 at every Walmart in my area (and I've been to around 10 at this point) -- I finally broke down and bought one at the $24.99 price point, uugh!
They price match to their website. Just ask the customer service rep to change the price for you.
I think with them being that different they should have totally overhauled the sculpts and kept the same aesthetic.
