As someone who was born and raised (and currently still reside) in Hawaii, this hits me close to home emotionally xO It's a consistent battle between factoring the cost of living vs. the love for Hawaii and the roots that were established here on the islands. It's definitely not easy to live here, and I am lucky to have my family that lives here with some land but crappers its hard to do it on your own. What a wonderful episode you did, Mahalo Graham!!
Hilo is not paradise. It’s on the opposite side of the island as the 4Seasons. They have not only chicken fights but dog fights as well, chain link fences, low rated public schools, crime, and more.
@@Ndasuunye Well yes but no... It was forced to become as such due to gentrification of the island. As more vacation corporations take control of the island bring in tourists the cost of living rising. All the Islands have terrible schools unless you are in a Charter or private. Hilo has some areas that are really nice but also some not so much. It really is the only place that is affordable for locals. Lots of employees of the hotels on Kona side, live in Hilo. The pay is 30% less than the mainland but has state income tax and everything that is shipped in costs 20-40% more.

Huge hats off to this family!! I lived in Hilo for a year and you guys...don't forget that this is the most expensive state in the country to live in. I remember grocery shopping and seeing Cheerios for EIGHT FREAKING DOLLARS A BOX. Milk, chicken, beef literally costs double what it does on the main land. @White Wolf Whatever makes you poor people sleep at night... All I’m saying is you can simply make smarter financial choices with less income and still live comfortably. Doesn’t mean it’s somehow not realistic.
I get so annoyed when people make the assumption that Hawai'i or any island for that matter is a 'paradise' and people have it easy. Let's not forget most vacationers only get to see a glimpse of what the island offers not the day to day hustle that occurs to keep families afloat. Cost of living in Hawai'i is expensive, mind you most goods are shipped so groceries, fuel, everything is pricey. There are hardly any jobs on the island some work in Oahu or Kona side to help support their families. I remember when I lived there fuel was about $5/gal and milk was about the same or more.
And, Only housing is cheaper on the big island. If I recall, gas and food and anything else is way more expensive than on Oahu because it had to be shipped in. The main ports and airport are on Oahu. I remember gas on the outer island of Molokai being $7/gallon. Molokai is small island with a small harbor.

I appreciated this episode of meliennial money. Its much more relatable. I'm an "older" meliennial at 31 and my husband I are about to have a baby. I work as a clinical social worker, (a profession that requires grad school but doesn't usually offer high paying jobs) and have student debt we are still paying off. Having a mortgage, loans, and soon will be figuring out paying child care is starting to feel stressful. My husband and I both also work full time and do try to save and not waste money each month. I had a hard time relating to the videos of single meliennials making over 100k each living in NY or LA. Life in this video seemed a bit more real and relatable to our reality. Graham you are truly a good guy. I like the financial advice you give and most importantly the way you give it. I appreciate that you are never haughty or rude. Its awesome how you are willing to help those in need. Great episode!

My respect for Graham after hearing what he said at 12:53 📈📈
Graham - Kudos to you for helping them out. I'm a bit shocked you don't have a 0% credit card offer sponsor as of yet!
Karate kid “put on your jacket” “take off your jacket”
The rich stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then the poor stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich.
Thank you. People don't realize this. Most of my money goes to saving and investing. Of course I want to go out to eat and enjoy good things in life. But $50 bill at restaurant invested now becomes couple hundred in few years. Delay immediate pleasure, smart words!
well said I have been looking to invest my money in stocks but I don't have a financial advisor .
@@darkhumphrey well done ! you would surely have the last laugh
@@johngeorge6376 you can look up Nancy Jane Gluck on goggle , she would help you out
Did you even watch the video? Because that's clearly not the case.
That’s so nice of you Graham!
Shipping costs to Hawaii are really high i’m pretty sure
Me in Australia: Really... really
Preach
Loved the video and insight !! You throwing them 1k in your videos is so epic aswel
"Inexpensive" daycare in Massachusetts is $16,000/year for a baby. Average is probably closer to $20-25k. It's brutal!
@Tee I think that's illegal these days. There is wayyy too many regulations
Thank you graham for helping them out!
No worries Graham. In playschool I didn't play a lot with others either and was socially awkward. So I became an Engineer. I'm pretty sure that's how that works.
Bro, same story here. I also became an engineer 😭😭😭😭
Love you compassionate & giving Graham is ❤️❤️❤️ that was amazing to offer the contribution towards the credit cards but in general it’s so good to see someone who just wants to see others doing just as well as he is 🤗
I am native Hawaiian by blood, and many of us are being pushed out because the cost of living keeps going up 😭
That’s awesome graham thanks for helping these folks. We’ve all got to help one another out some of us have it a lot tougher but everyone deserves a shot at living out their dreams and working hard for their kids.
This was awesome Graham love the videos
Thanks joey!
I was waiting for Graham to react to this episode, this was such an insightful episode! 😊 Hopefully they see this and get that help. So kind of you Graham, amazing work 👏🏽👏🏽
Graham was today's years old when he realized how to pronounce Hawaii correctly.
Great advice and appreciate you for helping them out! It will surely go a long way!
Everyone says Hawaii wrong.
And they’re just finding out😂🙄😂
Great episode Graham and you are the best for offering a helping hand to this family !!!
Graham’s out here talking about being a father to jack when in reality he has already lost his mind saving money on his phone bills
Jack is my son
@@GrahamStephan bro 😂
Haha how did Graham even meet Jack?
@@danielle7988 jack just was a graham simp until he hired him
I really liked this Millennial Money Episode. It shows a little more realistically what people are dealing with in America. Good for you Stephan for helping this family get out of debt. I definitely smashed the like button.
Loved seeing something much more relatable to me. Single millennial mom of three kids and it is much more expensive especially having all girls. 👧🏻
Nice episode, something different than the normal NYC scene! So kind of you Graham to help out!
I just got a 1 hour ad :( How does RUclips allow this? I am here to listen to Graham not someone who takes a hour to sell me something that I don't even want to buy!
:O could you not skip it??????
@@TheIcedCoffeeHour Luckily I can! But I normally listen to you and do some other work and let the ad just run, Couldn't wait the whole hour :) Awesome Vid btw :) :) :)
Mad!
Offering help pretty much shocked me lol. You just confirmed why I'm a fan of yours. Keep the videos coming.
My disneyland trip was around $7,000
was it a lot of fun?
@@TheIcedCoffeeHour hell yeah! Not worth $7,000 though..
For that price go to a international trip and have a fantastic vacation pretty much anywhere: the Caribbean, Thailand, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Japan, Argentina, etc.
@@RandomPersonOnRUclips-isinuse
Jeez. Thats a lot. I took two disneyworld trips for not much more than that. Stayed outside the parks though. Hotel was only 150 a night.
😳😮 Yeah, I think I’d rather sell my kidney! 😭. I’ve never spent more than 1k on a holiday/trip and my heart even hurt from that lol. My family hates it but my bank balance loves it 🤪
Very nice of you to do that Graham! Xoxox
