Dammit, Andy….every time I watch one of your videos you make me want more gear. You always play tunes that really showcase the possibilities of the pedal. Great job, as always.
@@AndyDemos Not blowing smoke. If I want to hear what a pedal is capable of, I'll always see if you've demoed it. Can't tell you how many fuzzes I've seen played without any regard to what fuzz is actually used for.
I have one of these on the way to use on bass. It’s almost like having multiple pedals in 1 housing. Also, I love watching Andy play. Dude just knows how to jam! 👍🏻
Andy's been dropping my jaw for years. The PGS demo's got me interested in pedals after years of just sticking to a guitar->cord ->amp set-up. And I'm not ashamed to admit I've spent some time under his learning tree; analysing and copping riffs & techniques he does effortlessly. This pedal is unreal. I've wanted an octave pedal for years but everyone I researched either had too little or too much going on. There's pedals that just do above or below octaves, there's pedals that permanently gel an octave & fuzz effect together, etc. This one has it all there like a mixer, it's brilliant. I've got a dual output expression pedal going into my Boss WazaCraft DM-2 to control delay time & my JHS Kodiak trem to control the pulse on the trem. While it's nice to have pedal control of the trem speed I confess I rarely use it, mostly just to get the trem at the tempo of the song. I'd totally swap the expression connection into this pedal, what Andy was doing just opens it up to full soundscape territory.
Did you jump off? Been using the Pitchfork for a decade, and while I've always liked the raw tracking on the Whammy, they are just too bulky and unreliable.Recently got the Poison Noises See Saw, which is more organic, but does have truly poor markings on it's controls, and many unusable settings. So far, I haven't managed any consistency out of the expression control.Likely will keep it for some of it's singular sounds, but on a board, was reconsidering the Poly. The Red Panda Tensor does shifting and a whole lot more, - for a price.
“But, is it all analog?”🧐 🤤That blue sparkle allures; hearing the variety of lovely sounds on tap, thanks to Mr. Martin’s extensive and expert demo-ing, I find the many possible sounds tantalize, too😄
Wow! Sounds great and it's much more versatile than the POG. Really good demo on electrics and bass, but I wonder how it takes an acoustic guitar, because some of the audible glitchy artifacts at the high-end of the spectrum are masked by regular electric guitar and bass amps.
It reminds me of the sound of the band The Groundhogs. 😥Tony McPhee used an EMS SYNTHI HI-FLI. Phaser mono: Eleventh Hour (or vibe pedal) Sub-Octaver : solo "Your Love Keeps Me Alive" - "Promiscuity".... An excellent band worth rediscovering ! Lots of musical creations (Deepl translation)
The poly mode 12 string sound was kinda strange I felt my ear missed the small timing separation of the higher octave you get from a PitchFork or whatever. That really helps sell it as a 12 string sound. Great feature set though, I want.
Can this pedal replicate the sound of the original Blue Box effectively? Always been a fan of that pedal, but if this can do that sound I could replace it!
but...if i get this, do i take my phase 90 off my pedalboard? i have kept one on there for so many years and i would miss the orange box and the one-knob simplicity. :/
I'm still doing some research in which octave pedal i want. Maybe you can help me. I have a side project where i play metal. I'm still don't know which one suits more for that. I heard some positive things about the Boss oc-5 or the tc electronics sub n up and ofcourse the mxr poly blue... Do you think the poly blue is the real deal for heavier stuff or would you recommend another octaver?
Sure, just use the single octave up! Just a tip: For convincing 12-string sounds, keep the dry much louder than the pitch shifted signal, since a 12-string doesn't have octaves on the top two strings.
You can certainly get those Bass Oct Dlx tones in the Mono mode without fuzz as well as the MXR Blue Box. However, the circuits aren’t the same since this one is digital. That said, I was surprised how analog the Mono mode sounded because it responds very quick like an analog sub.
@@wesleyhockemeyer711 Real easy: set to heel position and dial in then move to toe and do the same. The pedal automatically morphs from one setting to the next, so things like rate and levels will gradually change!
@@AndyDemos what is the second setting you use for the guitar part at the beginning? I see it in mono mode but can't figure out the poly/vibrato setting. Thanks!
Great demo Andy. I just got mine today, I love the features but thought the tracking could have been better, doesn't feel super responsive under the fingers. Guess you proved that doesn't really matter much to the listener though, sounds great.
LBH, - MXR hasn't been exactly cutting edge since the early 80's, and most of their attempts at staying within certain cost parameters condemn them to remain so.Like EHX,- who still come up with great ideas that are limited by cost per unit, - I wouldn't look to them to improve on the competition.
MXR purposefully mimicked the tracking of the original Blue Box pedal when the Poly Blue is in Mono. Tracking is not perfect, it farts out and can get a little funky just like the original. In Polyphonic mode tracking should be flawless. If you have seen what MXR is doing with the Reverb, Tremolo, Clone Looper, and now the Poly Blue, you'll see that they have brought in some serious coders and players to make sure they nail it. Every tone is built from the ground up and not purchased off the shelf like many other popular pedals.
@@mattmcdevitt2331 I did use it on polyphonic mode, the tracking is not flawless, it's the worst of any polyphonic Octave pedal I tried. I'm a big MXR/Dunlop fan, I was really excited for this pedal but this one was just a miss for me.
Great demo as always, but wondering how well does that sub octave do at heavier, doomier tones? (I'm basically asking "what if you played like in the Hizumitas demo but with this pedal into a high-gain amp" ☺)
Good question, the pedal doesn't really care about genres. It can handle a bass so any kind of drop tuned guitar or baritone is a piece of cake. The real question is can your amp and other pedals handle the low frequencies. Thanks!
@@AndyDemos the very next question, just because I'm a consequential guy, will your cabinet and speakers be tight enough?....(it took me 2 years of trials to find the perfect one)
Though this does sound very cool, pedals are trying to do too much at once these days. You have to have 10 sets of feet to control all the expression pedals you're going to need.
I Love it, Exp pedal really works well with it, Andy, have you ever tried a Walnut Fusion from Jericho Guitars, I think you might like them, thank you for another amazing demo.

I always love Andy’s “lawsuit” guitars. The Ibanez Destroyer is awesome but now I want the black Greco!
A friend of mine has an 82 I think (one of the good years anyway) and it’s incredible, although it’s one of the heaviest guitars I’ve ever picked up
It’s done up like Neil Young’s Old Black, but with a Kahler in place of the Bigsby. Quite cheeky!
That's the coolest octave pedal I've ever seen. Andy is killing it with that thing! Time to sell the Pitchfork.
