The Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday that the US has identified 487 illegal Indian migrants to be deported to India. Of these, information about 298 people has been given.
Earlier, on February 4, 104 illegal Indian migrants were deported to India. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that more care will be taken to ensure that there is no mistreatment of Indians while sending them. If any such case comes to our notice, we will raise it with the US.
Misri said that the issue of mistreatment of Indians while sending them to India on February 4 has been raised with the US authorities. He said that sending innocent people to America illegally by misleading them is a disease like cancer. A case should be registered against those who do this.
The Foreign Secretary said that deportation is not a new thing. The Foreign Minister had also made a statement in Parliament in this regard on February 6. If any country in the world wants to accept its citizens back, it needs to ensure that whoever is returning is its citizen, as there are security issues involved.

A US military C-17 plane carrying 104 Indians deported from the US landed at Amritsar airport in Punjab on February 5.
