That Sega CD system intro and the Playstation One, are my all-time favorite system intros. It's a lost art where you powered them on and the console does a little song & dance for you like that. Nowadays the company logo just flashes across the screen on boot-up, and that's it. Kinda boring.
Thank you for playing this & mentioning me in the video. I said "Very Easy" you played it on a higher difficulty setting. Anyways it seemed easy enough on "Easy". I didn't know you were going to mention me. 1st time a bigger channel or huge one mentions a channel that has what I don't even know how many subs I have like 10 lol. I don't know. When I play the arcade version of this game, it's very hard for whatever reason. I think it's the hardest out of all of them the Arcade version of 1 compared to 2 & 3.
@@BushyStallion Yeah for sure. That's the thing with retro single player games. You can play them over & over again. Unlike Modern single player games where you play them 1-2 times maybe usually once & then toss them on the shelf & never play them again.
I always loved the Sega CD version when I had it as a kid. I already had the Genesis versions of MK1 and II at that point, but I got the Sega CD version for my birthday and, man, it really was a game changer back then. It might not look like much now, but at the time all of the extra animations, sound effects and the arcade-quality (if not accurate) music were mind blowing to see and hear in your living room. I don't think the CD-ROM version existed for the PC yet, so I believe this really was the only way to play the game the most accurately as far as audio went, even with the stage music being in the wrong stages (and that never bothered me much - in fact, as a kid, I never even noticed). A huge standout for me was Johnny Cage's audible "YEAH!" after uppercutting someone's head off. I remember looking at my Dad the first time it happened like, "THAT WAS AWESOME!!" Back in the day, even the intro video was a huge deal. Loved that damn song lol. They also used the Super Nintendo gameplay footage for it - I'm guessing because it was an existing commercial never initially intended for the Sega CD. I think they just thought the ad would make an awesome intro and take advantage of the FMV capabilities of the Sega CD. And that it did, but I didn't know it was footage of the SNES version back then and I spent way too much time trying to get Raiden to electrocute my opponent to dust as a fatality. All that being said, I love the music in the Genesis version as well. The Genesis' actual play speed might be a little faster than the Sega CD, but I always thought it was a little too fast in comparison to the arcade version. I think the Sega CD compares with the arcade very accurately as far as gameplay and that's probably thanks to all of the animations being intact. The music for "The Hall" stage is absolutely next level on the Genesis. I remember hearing that for the first time as a teenager when I finally bought my own home theater system with surround sound and that track really knocked my socks off. This is way after owning the Sega CD version, which also sounded great when revisiting it years later - just predictable. The Genesis just has something special to it and I think the same can be said for MKII all around and even 3 at times.

I believe that you can rip the game and rearrange the audio tracks so the stage music is correct. The original Goro's Lair theme is in the game, just the wrong stage.
I never understood why Probe seemed to intentionally re-order the stage music for every single MK port they ever did. I don't think it was a mistake; they always did it. They apparently thought they knew better than Midway regarding which song should go with which stage. But even THAT doesn't make sense, because the Genesis MK port had music ordered differently than the Sega CD port, and both were wrong.
Well, the Genesis version of MK had an absolute banger of an OST, far better than the arcade. One of the rare instances where this happened. Matt Furniss who composed the OST for the Genesis version was a legit and any project he worked on was impressive.
Just like all the other Genesis games - small teams, developers were 'learning' as they were programming, very tight timelines, tight budgets..etc. Looking at it holistically and how the video game industry was also still learning their business back then...the executives also didn't know what they were doing. Some of those games with terrible gameplay and awful sound, despite having quite capable hardware, are the result.
for those who didnt know , if you load into the sega cd's cd player app (turn system on without a game disc in to access player) then pop this game in you can listen to each track as if its an album, the songs are great it has a bunch , and im not talking in game background music tracks i am referring to the immortals mortal kombat mix tracks.
One thing I miss is how Sega would put out 'enhanced' editions for each MK release. MK1 got the Sega CD treatment, and MK2 got the 32X treatment. Some things went well, some not so well, but it was always fun seeing what Sega could do with a little more technology and money at the time.
The MK Sega CD version is the best home version in my opinion. If you play on a good emulator, the loading screens are almost instant if I remember from last time I played. If you are in the mood for Genesis music, you play that version, and if you want OG Arcade music you play on the Sega CD version.
We owned this version of MK1 at home. I remember the music video lol and the instruction manual had some comic book art which is now nostalgic to me. I also remember the trading cards as well.

The best version of MK 1 graced us justa few years ago, and that would be Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition for the Genesis. Not an official release, so Im not sure if you plan on covering it, but aside from music, everything has been improved. Even over the Sega CD version. Graphics are way better, and all the sounds from the arcade are put back in. This is the version I wish the Genesis got back in the day. And Reptile’s a secret playable character.

I absolutely loved this version for the soundtrack alone... and that BEAUTIFUL pixel fest commercial at the start of the game. 👊

There are two different releases on Sega CD of Mortal Kombat. The first retail release has a big it does not play on the Sega CD with the disc drive that comes out. You had to mail your copy back to the company and they sent you a fixed copy.

I agree... The Plug 'N Play Mortal Kombat is my favorite port. The Sega C.D. version is better than both 16-Bit versions from back in the day. Never has there been a tangible need for a current-gen rerelease of the first 3 Mortal Kombat games for consoles and P.C.. I'd rather own a physical copy on console and P.C. over emulation. Netherrealm and Midway must have some preexisting licensing issue regarding the older games. I'd buy physical copies of the original trilogy on every single console and option if it ever became available. Still, it's fun to go back and play the classic ports...
Agreed on the Plug N Play. However, you nailed it: I'd love to see a Mortal Kombat Original Games Collection for a modern console. Such as the Switch and the PS4. It's insane that Midway Games won't release a physical media copy of 'em. They're literally sitting on piles of cash 💵💰 😲
Sound, music, and animation now matches the arcade, but they get the stage music muddled up, sprites are more pixilated than the Mega Drive counterparts, and although loading between stages doesn't really bother me, it totally ruins the final battle with Shang Tsung. Its like 3 steps forward 2 steps back with the Mega CD port. Still a perfectly fine version but could have definitely been better.
Still a lousy port.. Music is the only thing that's the same even though it's mixed and doesn't match some of the stages.. The SNES version even has more artifacts in the background, and not the muddy graphics that both the Genesis standalone and the Sega CD..
Play the N64, PS1 and Sega Saturn versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy (aka the final updated version of Mortal Kombat 3). And by the way, the Sega CD version of MK1 is best played with a Sega Genesis 6-button controller.
This is a good version , but the tracks are off for each stage , maybe you should do version comparison of the Music tracks , MK1, MK2, MK3 - the arcade and console versions
Superior sound, yet flawed in many ways. Not a great port. Still interesting for the nostalgia. MS-DOS was the best home version of the time. Find that one
Believe it or not, the 'Dads' option in the cheat menu changes all the character names to characters from the 1960's British TV sit-com 'Dads Army'. No really.
i’ve got the sega CD console there wasn’t that many games for it when compared to the genesis was there? it was sega first try at CD format as I think the saturn came after the genesis 😅
If you are interested, I'll mail you, what I consider to be a very special physical edition of Mortal Kombat. You've not mentioned or previewed this version on your channel.
Would've been cool if they had allowed the user to choose between the Genesis & Sega CD music. Wouldn't have taken up much memory to include that on the disc
Actually the ps3 versions of mk 1 mk 2 umk3 are better and online. Mk collection. You can change the screen to the arcade look- bold rounded screen. Or wide screen or classic TV screen. You can also change the shade graphics like painted 1. Painted 2. Using this changes the graphics to the cheesy Genesis look and the other changes to the snes look and the other change it to arcade crisp graphics
Alot of ppl didn't know this. That game on ps3 was glitch when it 1st released. But once they released a patch for it. The speed was faster and they added all the home system graphics to change from arcade perfect graphics. Basically mk arcade collection let's you get that classic experience with at your choice the ps graphics. The Genesis graphics and the snes graphics can all be changed in the options menu. If you didn't get that online version from the ps store when it released u missed out on the best versions of mk. Mk2 and umk3. They took it out the ps store now. Ppl still play online too once in a while. They say you can find the Xbox version somewhere online if u look hard enough
You can spam using the jump forward high kick in the super Nintendo version. even on extra hard it will work! But when reached to the pit.... the CPU will block it... if you find the pattern.... just do something else and continue spamming with jump forward high kick lmfao
Funny how Raiden having the longest jump range in MK1 and then such shit range in 2 and being the same actor shot.. As your playing i keep hearing that gong go off on the Shrine level..
Yeah unfortunately the Sega CD really only had more storage for data and better sound, but the graphics are still only 64 colours I believe so it was basically it was a Genesis on CD format.

I personally prefer Rayden to Raiden, but hey, what do I know?
Lol Drew you know plenty 😂 but yes I can see Rayden being more appealing 👊🏼
I never heard of this one
So I hear the actual Mortal Kombat theme (Techno Syndrome) is in this version of MK. How do you find it!?
Pop it in your CD player.
@@BushyStallion Sounds simple enough. Thanks! 💿
I’ll be revisiting the N64 version of Trilogy again soon 👊🏼
Dam Shang sounds like he is under the weather in this game
😂😂
That's a Classic' ✨
Why are you not using down, down, up with a upper punch ???
This is a good version , but the tracks are off for each stage , maybe you should do version comparison of the Music tracks , MK1, MK2, MK3 - the arcade and console versions
Superior sound, yet flawed in many ways. Not a great port. Still interesting for the nostalgia. MS-DOS was the best home version of the time. Find that one
Been a long time since I played this one!
@BushyStallion I heard that on the Sega CD it includes the Hypnotic House and Techno Syndrome mix of the Mortal Kombat song by The Immortals.
It does. And you can listen to it on any regular player, the music is stored in the audio CD format.
It certainly does. I’d showcase it but anytime I post a video with music like that it gets flagged.
The Sega genesis had the best music far as the systems. Nothing beats the arcade music especially mortal Kombat 2
Love 90s dance ill look xD
Believe it or not, the 'Dads' option in the cheat menu changes all the character names to characters from the 1960's British TV sit-com 'Dads Army'. No really.
Hmmmm, I KIND OF believe you… dang it now I have to check lol
i’ve got the sega CD console there wasn’t that many games for it when compared to the genesis was there? it was sega first try at CD format as I think the saturn came after the genesis 😅
If you are interested, I'll mail you, what I consider to be a very special physical edition of Mortal Kombat. You've not mentioned or previewed this version on your channel.
I am interested for sure, what version are you talking about?
Would've been cool if they had allowed the user to choose between the Genesis & Sega CD music. Wouldn't have taken up much memory to include that on the disc
We just didn't want that back then. Having the arcade music in the home was a huge deal and you couldn't ask for much more.
Dose anybody remember the ole rumors back in the day that you could perform nude finisher on characters?
Nothing beats the mame arcade version 😊
closest version to arcade is the PS2 2004 rerelease
PS2 rerelease? Never knew they made one!
@@BushyStallion *2004 They rereleased it as a bonus disc with Deception
Ever play the genesis hacks, MK 2 UNLIMiTED, and MK ULTIMATE TRILOGY
Not yet. I’m waiting on a couple games to arrive in the mail however.. you’ll see in the upcoming weeks 👊🏼
Mk ultimate trilogy is Awesome 😎
👋🏾🐻 They spelled Raiden another way on the home version.
lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllets get ready to rumbleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
hi pal!
Playing Goro without Goro's theme playing is just wrong. Plus that Reptile theme when you beat somebody is just weird.
Is it me or is the honey marmalade move over powered
Maybe? But it’s easy to block for the most part so you gotta quick doing it 👊🏼
How do you feel about the new mk1??? For I guess I'm old school it's different but ok
It’s good, but I prefer the old school games 👊🏼
You can spam using the jump forward high kick in the super Nintendo version. even on extra hard it will work! But when reached to the pit.... the CPU will block it... if you find the pattern.... just do something else and continue spamming with jump forward high kick lmfao
Funny how Raiden having the longest jump range in MK1 and then such shit range in 2 and being the same actor shot.. As your playing i keep hearing that gong go off on the Shrine level..
What does 'DADS' mode on do?
For Dads only?
😂😂😂😂😂
the music is all off.
goros music on the second stage?
the pit music on courtyard?
i think that alone will drive me nuts.
Endurance cheat damn it 😂
Dude! i thought you were completely wasted drunk in this video...i didnt realise the playback speed was on 0.5 hahaha
30:57 I hear it xD
I WAS drunk! (Kidding) lol
SEGA!!!!
You're in your mid 40s? I thought you were early 30s friend!
Ahh that’s very kind of you! 🙏🏽
This looks surprisingly bad compared to the arcade. I guess that's why the PS1 ports where such a big deal, they where almost identical to the arcade.
Yeah unfortunately the Sega CD really only had more storage for data and better sound, but the graphics are still only 64 colours I believe so it was basically it was a Genesis on CD format.
Alimeemaeee
hey guy! is there a mk2 for sega cd?
I don't believe it was ever released only on Sega Genesis, Game Gear and 32x
Cd version = ps2 versions midway arcade, PS1, amiga/PC, sega saturn.
Nope. Would’ve been cool but I’m pretty sure Mortal Kombat 2 Unlimited is as close as you can get, oh and guess what? Because you mentioned that version before, I currently have a copy being sent my way, I bought one off eBay finally lol
@@BushyStallion can’t wait for it! Glad you finally got it for yourself!
FMV. More like GFMV. "Grainy Full Motion Video "
Well, yes lol
Hey Darryl wanna play some mk2 man?
I didn’t see this message lol but glad you messaged in discord. Ggs dude that was fun 👊🏼
HAYA-BABA-LOO
YOU HAVE A SEGA CD? How much was it?
A couple hundred bucks back in the day..
“The only issue” what about the color 🤔
True this is another issue 👊🏼
