I only recently, within the past 5 years or so, began listening to Bill Gaither's music from the Homecoming videos and the Gaither Vocal Band. I'm a Pentecostal who's attended a Spanish church my entire life in Connecticut, so the Southern gospel music was never something I was exposed to. One of my mother's clients gave her a box of old VHS tapes, one of them called "A Time For Joy" and I heard David Phelps sing O Holy Night. I was amazed and immediately did my research, watching Homecoming videos all over RUclips and buying songs off of iTunes. During that time, I realized that some of my parents and grandparent's favorite hymns were written by Bill Gaither, and we sang the Spanish versions of He Touched Me, The King is Coming and Because He Lives. I even try to translate some of my favorite GVB songs so we can sing them at my church! The Gaither Vocal Band is by far my favorite music group, and I've grown to love groups like the Martins, the Hoppers, the Crabb family and many others because of your Homecoming videos. Thank you Bill for your beautiful music and Gloria for your moving lyrics. I thank God for bringing your music into my life and shaping me to the Christian that I am today. Gloria truly has a gift, she can always make me cry (mostly happy tears)! My sweet mom (who passed away in 2015) is the one who introduced me to the Gaither’s music. She loved them so much & now I think of her every time I hear their music. Makes me smile & cry at the same time!!
