i dont often comment on videos but i just wanted to say that your videos about McGill are so helpful... so thankyou so much and i hope you are having an amazing day!
Sorry, I graduated from McGill in June 2016 so I don't have any video footage of the residence! BUT I took a few photos of my room in New Rez and I made this video on my roommate and my dorm in first year! ruclips.net/video/qhzRXVqLaA4/видео.html
Hi Liann! your videos are so helpful. So far I am planning to go to New rez, C4 or La Citadelle. I've been ranking my choices and just wondering if it is likely to get into my top residence choices. Is it possible to get into my top 5 choices or do they select randomly? Ranked Solin as the last one lol
Hi there! I think it's quite likely to get your top 5 residence choices! Especially with something like New Rez which holds so many people! They don't select randomly, don't worry! :)
This is the first time I am commenting on a you tube video. Your effort in producing this is much appreciated. Great information and very helpful for my son who could be joining McGill this fall.
i’ve been looking through videos like this one, but i haven’t seen anything about ecoresidence? do you know anything about it? i’ve been considering it bc it’s apartment style and much cheaper than most but i can’t find anyone who talks about it
Hi ! I have a very important question, I'm an international student who plans to go to one of the Mcgill's residences but for the graduated program (master) : can I go/be accepted to all of these residences too like undergraduated students (New rez...) ?
YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO HELPFUL! I have a question though, if I wanted to party moderately but also want an academic and quiet atmosphere, which rez do you suggest is the best? I'm super social and I want to go to a rez where I can be social but at the same time, I don't want to constantly be exposed to a party scene.
Thank you so much for this video, I just got accepted into Mcgill and I was thinking about applying to New rez but was wondering if it is possible to have a single room ? And does the price remains the same for this option ?
What would you say are the chances of getting your top choice rez? I'm really hoping for a single in La Citadelle. I'm not a scholarship student or anything like that, I'm coming from the US but I'm a canadian citizen if that makes any difference at all. I'm hoping that since La Cit is like the most expensive that not a lot of people will want it...? Thanks :)
Hiya! Getting your top choice largely depends on how large the residence is and how many students apply for it! Something like Douglas Hall might be harder to get into because it only houses 179 students but La Citadelle houses 288. I got into my top choice so fingers crossed for you too!
Omg ilysm...can you do a video on how to get accepted at McGill...like any tips and tricks and really anything to do so that acceptance rate is higher?? Tysm...btw ily
Hi love!!! Oh man, I applied to McGill in 2012... which is 6 years ago now! 😱😱 From my application, I remember that I only submitted my grades for McGill. I know for the majority of universities require personal profiles but not McGill at the time I was applying! I talked more about it here: ruclips.net/video/dW0jDwvRsDw/видео.html 💖
I just got accepted to McGill and I'm doing some research on everything. I was wondering: if you end up at let's say one of the upper rez buildings does the meal plan extend to Douglas/RVC or any of the other cafeterias? Or do we have to stick with the upper rez cafeteria?
Hi Bea!! Ooo you know what, I don't quite remember from my time at McGill! But this website talks a little bit about the Mandatory Residential Meal Plan. mcgill.ca/foodservices/mealplans/residential/home-base-dollars-vs-flex-dollars "Home Base Food Dollars: Refers to the portion of your total meal dollars which you can use in any of the five residential dining halls. These are: Bishop Mountain Dining Hall Carrefour Sherbrooke Dining Hall Douglas Dining Hall New Residence Dining Hall Royal Victoria College Dining Hall. This amount comes to $3,825. "
How's the community like in la citadelle and carrefour? Cause they're smaller, is it more welcoming? Cause I really want a private bathroom but also the community
I haven't met anyone from La Citadelle but people I know from Carrefour loved it! It seemed like the perfect size residence. Maybe you can read more here: www.reddit.com/r/mcgill/comments/1g11od/the_catch_all_thread_about_mcgill_residences/
Hi Liann! i got put into New Rez double this coming fall and I was just wondering how the desks and working space is and if theres any privacy at all between u and ur roommate? Thanks so much :-)
Hi Liann! Is the cost per month per student, or is it divided with your roommate? For instance, New Rez costs $1,200 per month, will I pay that myself, or is that price divided between myself and my roommate? Thanks
Hi Agustin!! Unfortunately, the cost is not divided between yourself and your roommate! For New Rez, a double room is about $1300 per student and a single room is about $1500 per student! (www.mcgill.ca/students/housing/fees-applying/undergrad-downtown-fees)
I love your videos! So I just wanted to ask which residence is the closest to Bronfman building, and can I choose where id like to live when I'm applying?
Thank you so much! You can rank your residences choices when applying. I think RVC would be the absolute closest to Bronfman, it's about a 5 minute walk!
Hello!! Im planning to go to Mcgill for exchange next fall and was wondering which rez would you advice for a college experience and since im just there for a semester! Also, which rez is closest to whichever the psych or biology buildings will be? Thank you!!
Department of Psychology: www.mcgill.ca/psychology/mcgill-college-2001 Department of Biology: biology.mcgill.ca Hello!! I hope you have a wonderful exchange in the fall! Your psychology classes will likely be at the centre of your McGill while your biology classes will likely be a 10 minute walk from the centre of McGill. I would suggest Gardner, Molson, and McConnell if you want that classic dorm room with a big party scene!
Thank you so much for all your helpful info on mcgill uni!! I would like to know if Gardner, Molson and McConnell are of short walking distances to the dept of psychology building? If not, would you suggest any other rez that is of closest approx to psyc? :) Thank you Liann!
Hi Liann, also as an exchange student who would like to explore montreal or even travel during the weekends out of montreal (Newyork, Toronto etc), which rez would you suggest I could stay in? Also, which rez has more exchange students? Thank you so much for your help in advance!
Hi love! Its totally walkable, about 10-15 minutes! To be honest, the McGill downtown location is a fairly small campus. All the residences are walkable to the downtown buildings, just some are closer than others by 5-10 minutes!
Hi Clarrisa! I dont think your residence will make a difference for exploration! Perhaps if you chose a decent size residence, you will be more likely to find friends who want to travel as well? In my first year, I went to NYC and Boston with a few girls from New Rez. It was pretty easy to gather people, a lot of the girls wanted to travel! I have the video here: ruclips.net/video/n13EhXoPmDs/видео.html 😊
Hello I am going to McGill for exchange in 2019 Winter Term! I am wondering how is the accommodation like for exchange students? What would you recommend?
Hello! I would really recommend you choose student housing rather than trying to find your own apartment! You will meet so many new friends that way, you can read more here: www.mcgill.ca/students/housing/residence-options/exchange-students
Yes you can! So there are "Home Base" dollars that you need to use at your residence and there are also "Flex" dollars you can use at any other residence! You can read more here: www.mcgill.ca/foodservices/mealplans/residential/home-base-dollars-vs-flex-dollars
Once again, it really depends on the residence! For the hotel residences, they all have private bathrooms but no private kitchen. For the apartment residences, you have a bathroom and kitchen in your apartment. I recommend looking at the individual residences because they're all different.
class of 2020, here we go again

Hi, your video is so helpful! Thanks! And I have a question: do all these prices are inclusive of water/heating etc?

finally a vid with hard data. Thanks
Hi Liann! i got put into New Rez double this coming fall and I was just wondering how the desks and working space is and if theres any privacy at all between u and ur roommate? Thanks so much :-)
Hi Sunny!! There are two desks for the double rooms in New Rez! There is no divider between you and your roommate however. It's one big open room!
Is the cost of the meal plan separate or included in the cost of the Rez? Great video by the way, very informative!
I just wanted to know if we need to pay 1000$ combined for double room or we need to pay it individually?
The prices are individual!
Hi Liann! Is the cost per month per student, or is it divided with your roommate? For instance, New Rez costs $1,200 per month, will I pay that myself, or is that price divided between myself and my roommate? Thanks

Class 2020 gang, where u at?
How is the c4 cafeteria? I heard that the caf is horrible.
It is a little small compared to the other cafeterias! But I've eaten their quite a bit, I wouldn't say its horrible, theres just less selection!
Thank you for the info sweatheart.
are they all double rooms?!! does that mean u have another person living with you?
Not all double rooms! There are a lot of single rooms as well.
But yes, I had someone live with me for my first year!
Thanks. So which dorm is closest to the anatomy and cell biology building, and do all rooms have private bathroom and kitchens?
Once again, it really depends on the residence! For the hotel residences, they all have private bathrooms but no private kitchen. For the apartment residences, you have a bathroom and kitchen in your apartment. I recommend looking at the individual residences because they're all different.
Douglas hall and New Rez are both less than a 10 minute walk from the Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building!
this was awesome thanks so much
