  • While everyone understands how important empathy is for relationship health, it is also the key to understanding ourselves. Dr. Henry Cloud talks about why empathy is central to having deeper relationships than you have right now. The power of empathy is that it circles back to us. Dr. Cloud explains how as we listen to others and understand their feelings we will begin emotionally regulating ourselves. It’s a very healthy and powerful loop that not only leads to making others feel loved and heard, but allows us to grow and thrive personally.

When I heard you say people use what someone shares as a segway to talk about themselves...I winced...I realized this is what I have done. I gotta work on changing this! Thanks for the insight!

When I was empathetic to everyone I was emotionally spent. Empathy isn’t for everyone. Some people use your energy to live. It leaves you depleted.

I had to learn to set firm boundaries. I don't let people drain my energy like that anymore. I had to grow in discernment to recognize when they were in genuine need and a willingness to work through their difficulties vs. just looking for a place to dump their junk.
