This is still my most lusted for synthesizer. Roland created a magical monster as powerful as anything out there.
stryker1999 system 8 is better.
System 8 is digital though and I would not say it's better at all than the JD-XA, the JD-XA have real analog voices and that is sweeter in most cases than just digital. Especially when the synth is just trying to model analog, then analog definitely will be the better choice. The few times when digital is better or at least more valuable is wavetable and FM synthesis that is not trying to be something else than it is.

I love System-8 too. It's a fantastic VA, and the plugout synths are wonderful emulations of classic Rolands. But the JD-XA is still a monster. A Roland FA-07 workstation and a KORG prologue, a Prophet~6 or OB-6 would probably be better - and it should be, that's about as much as a new Waldorf Quantum! And that's an even better synth, if perhaps the best synth ever.
But the JD-XA is affordable and you can do SO MUCH with one, you won't believe how those layers of analog and SN synths will do whole universes of sound. I'm intending to beg borrow or steal one - okay, not steal - to use in an upcoming project that hopefully will end up here.
Not as powerful as the roland v-synth!
I love the JD-XA, I posted some experiments I did, I got very organic tones with it!

Is this a subtractive VA synth also in the digital section or only a rompler which you can modify some parameters? I haven't really understood that from reading the specs, I can clearly hear some rompler sounds here but can it be more like an Access Virus for instance also with full subtractive synth control?
Great demo of this synth, it sounds really old school at times which I like, dreamy, dirty and just crazy. Thanks for sharing.
+MessiahGaming1080p it is 4 part analog (2 osc each voice) and 64 voices divided into 4 more parts that feature 3 osc each of VA waves (typical sine, saw, square etc) and a ton of multisampled waves. Yes you can make a mono sound that has 20 DIFFERENT oscillators using 8 different filters. That is not stacked oscillators (you can do that too in mono modes) but as if you had 8 moog filters and 20 monosynths to route to them. Crazy!
Ok, thanks for repsonse that would mean it is like an access virus also in the digital part but also like a rompler with samples. Then of course the analog part that I am aware of is as it should be. So many great synths being released lately, just love it.

Yes that's an accurate description but what you can do is route the digital sounds through either of the three analogue filters (Roland,Moog,Oberheim), i have a virus c and tweaking the filter doesn't come close to the filters on the JDXA that i also own. It's a beast.

this is a great move sonically by roland, the pad at 1:15 is lush. Can the bass get aggressive like the mopho? can the step sequencer do 4 bars of 16 steps ? and each step can be tweaked w tweaks recorded in real time? if yes to all then this is the missing link i need in my studio.
YES. I have this synth it easy to make it sound amazing. Perfect addition to my rig and will never sell it, It's just too unique.

It has both analog circuits and digital. This thing is a beast !!
