    I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

    I've prolly "secured" my bullets much less than most over the years but when I do, the good ole toothpick has always done the trick. I will look into those pegs though.

    Good tip and explanation. I’ve used bobber stops with success, but never thought about the damaged line on installation. It probably doesn’t matter with 65 pound braid but bad with mono and flouro. Indeed during a fight with a fish, the bobber stop will creep up the line above the hook. I’m going to make a point to experiment with the peg system this summer. Thanks for the video.

    Good point and info, I always use the bobber stop but typically use 2 especially with heavier weights to prevent the weight from even slipping at all and sometimes even adding one under the weight to prevent damage to knot, understanding that the weight will remain near the fish’s mouth and will be additional leverage for throwing the hook, but at least the weight isn’t sliding up and down hitting the hook. Just my thoughts

    • @MattStefanFishing

      Makes sense! It’s better to lock that weight in with two bobber stops

    Howdy Matt from the west coast! California delta, Clear lake ,lake Berryessa etc. I've been using them in 3 sizes for years now and have recently started using them for punching since I recently discovered "jumbo" peg-its. When it is punch time out here, I will usually have 3 different weights rigged up to 2oz and they work beautifully. I gotta bunch of leftover bobber stops I should give away.

    Happen to me twice last year, where I actually saw the weight slide back down and pop the hook out. Gave away all my bobber stops this year in going back to pegging.

    gonna try some T STOPS I use p line tacTICAL 12 # and when I worm fish next thing I know the other bobber stop is 5 feet up my line clicking thru my guides ....I wonder how much weaker a single half knot would be with or without a bob stop I use smooth titanium bullet sinkers I dont think they would cut into the knot maybe ill go out in the yard and test it

    Excellent points and information. Something i do and that i actually learned is this , Here let me break this down , what i do is i put on the Triangle Bullet Weight then tie on the interchangeable swivel twist the line 20 times or so , then tie the knot under the weight and above the interchangeable swivel making sure i leave a little bit of a loop so the swivel swing freely , by doing this i learned that by tieing the know below the triangle and above the interchangeable swivel that the knot will actually act as a stop point that will either keep the weight above your line or under the knot , because what will happen is the weight has tendency to wanna shift up and down which can become extremely annoying so by doing this im able to keep the weight in 1 place and still catch fish. i call this knot the Indestructable knot because sometimes the only way this knot will break is if if if if if if if IF you cut the line otherwise if you catch a 5 pounder then this knot wont break and will actually hold up. this is the only kind of knot that i use and i have personally had little to absolutely zero trouble with this knot. warning sometimes the swivel will go through the loop so you'll have to pull the bait or swivel through the loop besides that you should no to extremely little problems with this knot.

      interesting!

    • @krdpoutdoors
      @krdpoutdoors 2 года назад

      @@MattStefanFishing yes sir. Because what is happening by tieing your line like this is the knot will actually hold the weight back from sliding up and down so if you caught a 5 pound bass then the weight will slide down or alternatively the knot can help hold the triangle weight down near the hook so you dont have to peg it. this is something i learned that i never told very man anglers about. perhaps you might like try it i mean who knows it might be the 2nd best option while TexasRigging.

      Good to know I always have steered away from toothpicks since I could see them damaging line, which is why I prefer a rubber peg-it. But if it works for you stick with it. Thanks for the comment!

    I assume the impact is biggest with heavier weights (in terms of sliding back down and affecting your landing ratio). Do you have the same view with 1/8-1/4oz size weights?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 года назад

      I think so. The Worst day of lost fish I’ve ever had was with a 1/4 oz so i would say yes light weights still need to be pegged.

    • @peteremerson4777
      @peteremerson4777 3 года назад +1

      I know from your other videos that you prefer not to peg (me too) unless necessary. With the bobber stopper I often push it 6-7” up the line so I get the benefit of unpegged freedom of movement but also avoid a major split between my sinker and bait in thicker cover.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 года назад

      @@peteremerson4777 good idea!

  • @dragonsmugla
    @dragonsmugla 3 года назад +1

    I feel exactly the opposite. I don't want that weight at the lure when he's thrashing his head.. If it slides up the line a bit, less weight for the fish to use to dislodge the hook.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  3 года назад

      That’s exactly what my point is in this video. With a peg it the weight always slides up the line and holds up the line. With a bobber stop the weight slides up the line the same way it does with a peg it, but now there is nothing preventing the weight from sliding back down to the lure and allowing the fish to use the weight as leverage and shake the hook. That’s why I choose a peg it over a bobber stop
