This game came out when I was in middle school 7th grade when yugioh first came out. But this game blew us away we didn't expect it to be like this. This song has been in my head since and I'm 33 with a wife and 2 kids now
Careful, this is the last haven you’ll find here…. Beyond, there is no light to protect you…. But don’t be afraid….. Your heart is the mightiest weapon of all…. Remember you are the one who will open the door to the light….
Goofy: Gawrsh, is that all that’s left of the worlds taken by the Heartless? Sora: Those worlds will be restored if we beat Ansem, right? Donald: You betcha. Sora: But, if we do beat him and all these worlds become restored and disconnected, what’s gonna happen to this place? And to us? Donald: Well, uh... Goofy: This is a Heartless world, so maybe it’ll just disappear. Sora & Donald: Huh?! Goofy: But no worries. Even if this place goes poof, our hearts ain’t goin’ nowhere. I’m sure we’ll find our pals again. Yup, I just know that we will. Sora: Yeah, you’re right. (He takes out Kairi’s wayfinder.) I’ll return this. I promise.
I like how Sora technically lost that charm twice before he ran into Kairi again, as otherwise we would've had Oathkeeper at the start of both CoM and KH2.
I played this when I was 10, when it came out. I'm 31 now. It hits different. 2021 one night I just really listen too this and the game. The world, I felt.... alot of things, my school, my home, my childhood . End of the world feels like that existential place that you understand, without words, but how it comes across. Beautiful and tragic, happiness with sadness, innocence it has.

"Ones born of the heart and darkness, devoid of hearts, ravage all worlds and bring desolation. Seize all hearts and consummate the great heart. All hearts to be one, one heart to encompass all. Realize the destiny: the realm of Kingdom Hearts. The great darkness sealed within the great heart. Progeny of darkness, come back to the eternal darkness. For the heart of light shall unseal the path. Seven hearts, one Keyhole, one key to the door. The door of darkness, tied by two keys. The door to darkness to seal the light. None shall pass but shadows, returning to the darkness. One born of the heart and darkness, hunger for every heart until the dark door opens."
A year or two ago I did a playthrough just to get to that area and see if it shared any assets with Hollow Bastion. The closest thing is the hallway tiles having the same type of swirly pattern as Hollow Bastion's outdoor floors. They really put effort into that area. Also I like how Mickey quotes part of this in 0.2.
you had dive to the heart, which was beautiful enough, and then you get here. the harp and the xylophone make this song even more beautiful than it already was. i mean...i just got here in my first playthrough, and ive been keeping it paused just to listen to this, and its indescribable as of what im feeling. all i can say is that i love everything about this.
Hearing the first song you heard at the beginning and going through parts of every world you visited was really melancholic. Perfectly captured the reality that the journey was coming to an end and things were about to get serious.
Me realizing (or re-realizing.....)that the end of the story is a whole nod to the very beginning, where Sora literally dives into the unknown, the very concept of darkness itself, and face it, only to discover Kingdom Hearts. Just like when he stood at the Station of Awakening, surrounded by darkness and unsure of himself, only to grab his destiny by his own hands which would launch him to where he is today and face the darkness head on no matter what.
We're getting old guys and it looks like time isn't giving us a break if there's anyone who still plays this game let me know looks like I am dying with my parents as well ever since this modern technology came out I can't afford anything I wish I had my fat PlayStation 2 back from being a kid these video uploads from years ago are making me feel old and I am 31 now.
"Take a look at this tiny place. To the heart seeking freedom, this island is a prison, surrounded by water. And so this boy sought out to escape his prison. He sought a way to cross over into other worlds. And he opened his heart to darkness."

If I recall, I believe it’s just an amalgamation of all the worlds swallowed by the darkness in KH1, or at the very least fragments of the worlds that fell to darkness. The heart of it seems to be the fallen Destiny Islands, so once all the worlds are restored then it can be assumed that the place just vanishes.
@@paris-1911 You're right. Because in later parts of the world, you can see remains of those worlds. I didn't feel like remembering all the different parts so I copied the text from the KH Wiki: "The Volcanic Crater is a tunnel that extends through four rooms, and contains remnants from worlds that have fallen into darkness - for example, trees and small towers from Enchanted Dominion, the demonic trees and the front door of the Dwarfs' house from Dwarf Woodlands, stone tapestries from Castle of Dreams, and a small glass sphere from Beast's Castle."
It strikes me as part of the Realm of Darkness that began to surface into the Realm of Light. It's directly connected to the former via the mini Kingdom Hearts, has similar geography (at least in the Giant Crevasse and World Terminus), and most importantly, contains pieces of destroyed worlds the same way the former does (except the Realm of Darkness has more than just pieces). But this is all just nerding out to cover for retcons and all that.

The child that would be the king of bonds. Ruler of kingdom hearts. Purity of light and darkness are his to control.

This world has been connected... Tied to the darkness.

You do not know yet what lies beyond the door.
A meaningless effort. One who knows nothing can understand nothing.
