Ok new Idea here. I bought your polar star alignment mount.
Now!! If one were to make a GoPro mount adapter that you could attach to the Dwarf 2 off to one side, so that as you’re doing exposure with the Dwarf 2 you could do a night lapse with a GoPro that would easily make the Dwarf 2 a star tracker!!! $$$ I’d buy that too!!

Never had any trouble focusing without a mask. 2 ways, focus on a distant daytime object and leave it. Will thrn begin perfect focus. The other way, over expose star and can bring it to perfect focus when it's the sharpest. And never get an out of focus image. Also never had an issue with auto focus works for me.
That's good, I think that dark skies help! We'll get myself to some really dark skies and see if that works better!
Autofocus never works for me. Recently I went outside in the dark field with very bright sky and it took me almost an hour to get sharp focus. It's almost as if the focusing doesn't work right with the iOS app. At least at night that is. I tried in Astro and in Photo mode. Both is difficult to focus. Will try your overexposed star trick next time 👍
I hope to be selling these Bahtinov masks, as soon as I can 3d print to better quality, I'm getting a new 3D Resign printer this weekend, so should get them to production quality! I'll be putting link to them in the description of this video soon, if you still have problems focus you can try it to see if it helps, it certainly does for me for sure! :-)
Your channel will be extremely valuable for those of us who are just getting started. I got my Dwarf 2 from the original Kickstarter campaign and have been frustrated trying to use it. Cheers!

Thanks for the tips, Im waiting for my Bahtinov Mask to arrive in the mail, my auto focus def has a hard time actually focusing perfectly
Yeah the Auto focus definitely needs some work! I'm now producing Bahtinov masks for the Dwarf 2, testing a couple of designs to see which works best, should be fun and I'll be sure to video and post the results! :-)

Just received a Dwarf 2. Very difficult to focus on stars. Seems to work OK on both Moon and Sun. The mask you produce looks like a possible solution to the star focus problem. Only issue I have is I live in the USA. Can you ship the filters to a address in the USA? If so what is the total cost and shipping time?

Nope once in focus it will extend across the different modes! :-)
Thanks for the video. I just tried out my own Bahtinov mask tonight on a few stars peaking through the clouds here and it does work indeed. I noticed that your focusing (with the + and - buttons) works very fast I believe you were in Phote mode. When I try to focus in astro mode it takes 10-15 seconds before the updated image is shown. Dwarflab says that's because of the exposure time 10-15 seconds. Not sure why it works better in Photo mode then?
Oh by the way... if I turn the mask 90 degrees to the left or right, any idea if that would change the orientation of the "Bahtinov star"? And I have a C-mount to 1,25" mount which I use as a straighlight hood. Therefor the mask is 5 cm farther away from the lens. Not sure if it's better to have the mask close to the lens? It's fully cloudy now, so I can't try it out 😅
Thanks for watching mate, very much appreciated! Yeah that makes sense it's to do with exposure time! If exposure is set to say 15 seconds, then each image on the screen takes 15 seconds to be shown! In astro mode, set the exposure to 0 5 secs which is fine for seeing the stars and then focus, each image only takes them 0.5seconds to update, once in focus then set your exposure back up for imaging!
Yeah I believe so, if you rotate the mask around 90 degrees, then the Bahtinov star is lying horizontally and the focus moves the centre line up and down instead of left and right! :-)

Are you using the latest firmware version? I can no longer plate solve after upgrading the firmware.
I've not upgraded the firmware in a couple of months, when was it released?
Your best B-Mask focus still shows the star being a + shape when you remove the mask. Is this the only way the star can show up on these digital images? It's not circular like I expected.

Unfortunately with the optics the way they are, when you zoom in brighter stars will always be a bit distorted, however with a bit of past processing in something like Photo Affinity or Photoshop there are ways of tightening up the stars to have less refraction distortion! :-)
