Blue, Silver, Barry, Cheren and Hugh are better rivals than all of the others because they actually feel like rivals. None of the others actually feel like they are your rivals.

I totally agree with you about Hop being better than Hau. They’re sort of the same archetype, but Hop actually becomes self-aware, goes through an arc, and finds his calling.

@@mrudulasrivatsaHau goes through an arc as well. When Lillie gets kidnapped, he learns that he wasn’t strong enough to protect people he cares about and relies on your character. That’s why he never beat Hala, Gladion, Plumeria, etc. Its not in your face like Hop is, buts it’s there.

@@johnmillay6790 I kinda agree with you, Hau’s arc is there, but not as prominent to the story compared to Hop’s. USUM had so much other characters in the story, there wasn’t much focus on your character and Hau’s story. Where SH’s story revolves around you and Hop. I have a little bias towards Hau, cause I like how he still tries to battle you and promises to become a regular challenger at the Pokémon league instead of giving up and becoming a professor’s assistant
Ok the thing about hau is that he dosent really act like a rival, he acts more like a freind, and that's a big reason people shit on him, just because he was written to be a fun loving kid, instead of a rival........and here's the thing about hop, it's just that he's annoying because in battles he always comes up to u like he's better then u, and u usually beat him by a landslide, and then on ur next approach he acts likes he's better then u? Does this mean hops badly written, No, is just he has a flaw in his writing, that dosent make him dogshit though, but hau is better written then hop because hau is written to be a fun loving kid, and he just get mischaracterized, which hop has a flaw in his writting, so if u compare them, hau is just better cause he has flaws in his writing
My favourite rival is Barry, he's got a very unique personality being more rash than others, he's a childhood friend but he's not overly friendly like the more recent rivals but not a complete jerk like blue and silver, he's extremely rash, especially considering he left the lab without the pokedex, but his team shows that he can be patient since he has two of the hardest honey tree encounters, speaking of which his team is very powerful with snorlax, heracross and staraptor alongside a starter and a pokemon of each of the other starter types, being roserade, floatzel and rapidash

My brother and I did this on showdown with champion teams. We fought several times with each and determined Iris has the most powerful champion team

Even as someone who enjoys hau (Not to an extreme degree, i just like his energy and can vibe with him) I think hop is so much different than hau as a character and a genuinely good rival. People who say that he's annoying and has no character don't pay attention to his story imo
Well there's two differnt hau, SM hau and USUM hau, in the originals he was just a fun loving guy, he wasn't exactly a "rival" he just was a kid who came on the ride to have a great time, and then hau in the ultra games is pretty similar but instead he actually has a drive to want to beat the player, and he cries for moment at the end cause he tried so hard and didn't win (alot of people didn't play USUM so they don't know, which is fair, it was a cash grab) he's not the BEST pokemon rival, but he is written pretty well in both games for a rival,,because he dosent try to act like a rival, he acts like a freind, I think people just call him "garbage rival" is just because the alola games are very handholdy and have most dialogue out of all pokemon games, and just for that SINGLE REASON is why people call the alola games, and hau along with them garbage, which I don't think is fair,
If you pay attention to Hops's story it becomes even more disappointing. The writers just don't let him mature. Everyone compares him to Leon and he is just not faxed at all. His lines are just the tutorial spoken over and over again and even in the end he says he will choose his own path only to copy Sonia: When being a Pokemon researcher was literally there for grabs.

While I had no gripes with SM and surprisingly enjoyed them, I had high expectations for USUM and was disappointed, and just spammed through the games without much thought. What I was expecting was BW2, and I didn’t get that. As such, my opinion on USUM is low, while SM is just mid.
I’ll admit I should give them a second chance.
@@SiebayPlays ha....ha....ha.....ha ............I love usum for nostalgia(first games, yes i am a stupid kid) but there cashgrabs and the story is pretty much the same till 3/4 the way through.......but I wouldn't recommend ANYONE play alola game again or like u said "give another chance" because good god the big, (and one of the few) flaws in that game, the handholdyness and alot more dialogue,.......but even as a usum lover......DONT REPLAY ALOLA THERE SO SO LONG it takes annoying amount of time to beat it and the handholdyness on the first go around isn't that annoying but on A 2nd+ playthrough(s) IT IS MISSERABLE

So apparently people just didnt actually read the story of pokemon, because hau is a well developed character at the end of usum, but people just say "oh, hes only happy and he eats malasadas"
That’s all he is though, he’s a mediocre Pokémon character at best and a trash character compared to most other rpg games lol

Hop is leagues better than Hau. Hop has a whole story with the champion being his older brother and him thinking he has to be as good a trainer as him, or better, and then he goes and finds his own calling. I enjoyed running into him playing Sword

I genuinely love Hop, I loved his story (since it was damn relatable to me, having an older successful brother and essentially being in his shadow because of it) and I honestly like his design.
I would’ve thought the XY rivals would be the worst, since despite all having diff personalities I can not name a single one other than Tierno(?), and even then all of their teams were extremely easy to counter just by using a Gogoat.
Also Zamazenta > Zacian, idc what people say. Best boy forever.

Also, if you and Dylan were supposed to have exact teams, he messed up. With Venusaur as his Starter, he shouldn’t have had Exeggutor too, and didn’t even consider Pidgeot.
Hop is a decent rival. I don’t like the fact that he challenges you immediately after getting a cover legendary though. Sure you get a cover legendary and Eternatus but it’s not as if you have to use them.
You should do Champions next. (Cynthia vs. Diantha maybe?)
I actually like Hop and Hau but my favorite rival is always Silver because I think he's so cool. Also those plushies are so cute I want them.

Everyone hating on poor Hau. I would recommend replaying Sun/Ultra Sun or Moon/Ultra Moon, but I wouldn't want to put anyone through those many, many, many scenes that can't be skipped.
Hau most certainly had his own personality. A love of Malasada is probably what people remember the most.
Hau went through his own arc as well. Especially as his grandfather is one of the Kahuna.

This is the team of blue after you get the National dex in pokemon fire red, is a way better then this team that you use, I liked the video I am only saying that because Hop have a legendery and blue use a team that is not his better so I think that team would be more fair
You could have also included the Pokémon they have in Pokémon Masters, like Blue has Zapdos and Hop has a Galar legendary bird (I don’t remember which one)
Sorry this is inaccurate Pat. The true rival was that PeTa fuelled masterbaiter on route 21 that makes you slaughter 6 individual and helpless magikarp. And he does it with a smile on his face, a splash making you cry like mace, and a foot stuck in your gaming race.

doubt anyone will see this but i have to confess to what my partner did yesterday. We played pokemon go for 2-3 hours of walking around the local area and through the parks but it wasn't til the end that I realized they had been doing so with their partner pokemon being magikarp. Just dragging it along with a leash across 100 degree F concrete.

You should be allowed to use all of the rival's teams across generations. Zapdos for Blue (PokeMas) would have changed the battle. Blastoise too.
