  • This original 1966 Fender Jazzmaster stands alone from the rest. The original 3 tone sunburst finish is covered in very fine checking all over which creates an authentic and unique look and feel. The combination of dot inlays, neck binding, and a large headstock, is the ideal Jazzmaster spec in my humble opinion. This Jazzmaster came to us in 100% original condition, other than a re-fret, from the son of its original owner and plays like a dream. Please like and subscribe if you enjoy the content!

Nice score on this one! It's like a Jazzmaster version of my Jaguar. Same finish, same dots and binding, even the finish checking is nearly identical to mine! :D

We are blessed to own a 1962 in our family. I cut my teeth on my brother's 1960. They are fine guitars. Probably the very first recording of a Jazzmaster was in late 1958 or early 1959, played by (I am thinking) Roy Lanham on Bobby Darin's "Dream Lover."

!966 was early enough in the CBS era where the bean counters hadn't yet compromised guitar QC (amps were a different story), so although except for Mustangs, offset Fenders weren't selling very well. At that time, Leo was still consulting full-time for CBS, so product continued to resemble pre-CBS.
TLDR: '66 wasn't bad but wasn't quite up to the ones that went before. Leo was in business to make the best instruments he could. CBS was in business to make profit.
