    You can hold ALT on your keyboard and left click and it will add a point on the warp making a horizontal and vertical split.

    For a complex scene like the second picture, I'll just separate the subject on another layer and warp it to my heart's content. Much preferable to curved door frames IMO.

    • @njsfer
      @njsfer 4 года назад +4

      I use a similar but also simple technique that is better than this one in the second picture. I just duplicate the layer that I'm warping then I erase everything that I don't want to be warped. it's so much easier and better than this technique.

      Duplicate, auto object selection (new feature), mask then split warp. Done

    • @njsfer
      @njsfer 4 года назад

      @@zerorusher The auto subject selection isn't precise enough for professional use unless the background is a solid color or is completely blurred. It's a nice way to start a mask but you pretty much always have to tweak for real precise results. It's a great tool though.

    • @zerorusher
      @zerorusher 4 года назад +2

      @@njsfer that's why I'd duplicate the layer and use masking. If needed l'd tweak the mask manually... Probably faster than making the whole masking by hand...

    That's great for people who want to futz with photos. For packaging designers, the *old* warp could be used to accurately manipulate flat artwork across three dimensional surfaces. It's practically useless now.

    It's a cool update... I used to crop and warp the areas I wanted warped in the past. Then I would use layer masks to blend it with the original to make the warping believable but this makes things a little less complicated than I used to do it... Sometimes, I'd use liquify to get the results I wanted too...

    Here is what adobe should do: draw lines and warp.
    -1st you draw the limits so only the things inside the limit gets warped
    -2nd you draw skeleton lines that will be the guide for the warp
    -3rd you filter if you want to warp everything or ignore different elements (background)

    Hi, Is there a way of splitting the handles of each warp points like you can do it on a vector anchor handle with the convert point tool?
    Very often I feel the need it would be great to set a direction of the anchor handles, but the for of them are fixed according to I have no idea what, sometimes they are in 90degree to each other, sometimes not, but I cannot move them separately and completely makes warp impossible at some places.

And it seems a way faster workflow to just use the liquify filter instead of all these steps setting up grids with the split warp. Am I crazy, can somebody help me out and tell me why I would use split warp instead of liquify?

      Liquifiy uses predefined grid sizes, so that i s one limitation. Liquify also opens in a new window, so you can't see exacly how your liquify layer works with layers above and below. The new warp is 100 times better I think!

    It's cool to have a new tool at our disposal but in this case I think I will keep using the rectangular marque to confine the area, jump it to a new layer, then warp, make a layer mask and erase any unwanted distortions. I have been using this method for the last decade and I have to say it is a quicker, easier and more accurate workflow that yields better results in my opinion.

  • @ChristianFantana

    Everyone saying that such and such program has had this for ages needs to stop; you don't know what you're talking about. Photoshop has Liquefy, Puppet Warp, Content Aware Scale, and many other tools. This is just plain Transform...it's been round since at least Photoshop 5, Adobe just expanded on it and made it more robust.
    That being said, the old version of the Transform tool was a little bit better than what was shown here. It was split into different sections and you had more control over what you adjust than what was shown here. It was night and day compared to the 2020 update though.

In the custom shape section I wish they had a sphere. The two that are kinda close were extremely difficult to work with (in my opinion).
