I just got a pair of these in for review. They're very good at their price point, with excellent clarity, tonal neutrality, and timbral accuracy. I do wish they had a more conventional binding post for connecting speaker cables, e.g. WBT, though. The flat knurled "washers" make connecting fairly thick speaker cable leads with spades a bit problematical.
I guess they were planning for people using Banana plugs (?)

Are the stands or brackets absolutely necessary or can they stand on their own without them? Planning to put them on a wooden floor not enough space to accommodate these towers with those protruding rear stands
The speakers will be VERY unstable without the rear "feet". Make them work, or look for a different speaker.

Hello. In terms of sound quality, what is the difference between this speaker and.3050i....??
The 5040's are a significant and obvious upgrade. Bass deeper, mids better clarity and the top end is more detailed at all volumes and never bright
I've had one for 1 week today.... my previous ones (which are still here at home) are the 3050i... What do I notice? Well, better mids and highs, especially the highs are too bright for my taste...bass? I've lost half of them so far... far behind the 3050i... but wait, let me say it until the end, the 3050i is over 1 year and a half old... the 5040 1 week... they don't have a break ... hence the lack of bass.. the 3050i increased the bass over time and it was notorious.. I hope the same happens to these... if not..grrrrrrr
5040 vs elac carina?
Both are very good. The ELAC's are very compact, so that might influence things with you(?)
