    Such a charming young woman and full of life. I hate to be a debbie downer, but I'm not optimistic about her chances of making a worlds or another Olympic team, but I certainly wish her all the best of luck. I hope she shocks us all with some crazy upgrades next year.

    i was supposed to be on american ninja warrior junior but they called at last minute and said they didn’t want me. they called about 10 times before, asking for more videos and every time they asked, we sent them more videos. it took up a lot of time, but we were willing to do it because of how bad i wanted to be on the show. laurie is one of my biggest inspirations, would have been amazing to meet her. whatever.

    Wow, the people in the below comments are cold. Laurie is a competitor & so I believe, barring injury, she will make an Aly like comeback for the 2019 & 2020 season. Yeah, the depth of talent on the USA team is huge, but, the newbies do not compare to the last 2 quads & group of girls, IJS. I think Laurie has an excellent chance to make her comeback & be competitive.

      It is their first year with 1 veteran from 2016....and they won by close to 9 points in TF. There is no way she is making i. These girls in Doha have never competed internationally (-Morgan & Simone) They were amazing, obviously not 2015 & 2016 amazing, but still amazing. Also, the US, is working this new and shitty CoP like no other country, it is ridiculous.

      You have to keep in mind that there is a huge difference between Aly and Laurie. Aly started training again in 2014 and was back competing in 2015. Giving her like two years to get back to where she was before. Laurie is just starting back now, which gives her very little time to catch up. Aly has also competed in many international meets and Laurie has never gone to a World Championship. I'm not saying she can't do it but I don't think she has a good chance at a spot on the 2020 team given how absent she has been from training, the new girls she is competing against and it will be even more tight since there will only be four slots to fill this time.

    Sorry if this sounds mean, but I really don’t think 3-4 hours at the gym is going to cut it, especially with a loss of fitness, and lots of other major talent coming up. Maybe college gymnastics is a more realistic goal...

      Pretty sure she is just ramping up now. This will be hard but believe me if anyone can do this it is this girl. She has nerves of steel and raw talent. She does need upgrades though for difficulty and it does not seem like much time is left. In a few short months her body will look very different than it does now. She is very serious about this but is ramping up to avoid injury. If she can avoid injury I believe she does have a shot. At the very least as one of the new "specialist" spots on the Olympic team. Of course it would be for beam. You never know. Even though the odds are not in her favor she can overcome. She is one of a kind in many respects even though it is normal to compare her to the others who have tried the comebacks. I commend her for taking advantage of all the great opportunities. She could have gone back to training right after tour and it could have resulted in injury or burnout. She has been training since age 5.

      The difference is Simone far surpasses the other girls. Laurie like the other potential olympians is good but needs to work hard at it, however younger stronger girls who haven't taken a break are passing her.

    • @KarilynM
      @KarilynM 5 лет назад +3

      Simone is similar to Michael Phelps in swimming. The physical characteristics make things easier and so they can push. Simone is very strategic with her training now and is balancing her life pretty well. Laurie happened to be on the upswing at the right time at the last Olympics. She shouldn’t have gone pro but again I think NCAA needs to look at that rule for gymnasts due to the nature of their sport. The coaches though for collegiate all appear really supportive and really fought for services for their girls who were abused

    • @kassidyswanson2555
      @kassidyswanson2555 5 лет назад +4

      @@greeneyes12346 Simone is a rare case. She has done things that no other gymnast had been able to do. She's not some ordinary gymnast racing against her opponents to the Olympics. I'm not saying Simone is unbeatable but just because she is doing well doesn't mean Laurie will be able to catch up like she did.

      I think it could be disrespectful for the talk show hosts, but body changed would be a commonly asked question from the press at an event like the US classics. She has been open about her body changing and puberty so I feel it was completely ok for them to talk about. Changes in hight, etc have a huge effect on gymnasts, just look at how the press talked about Kyla ross and her height when she made her comeback after the 2012 Olympics. Puberty has a huge affect on gymnasts, so it is a cinversation point when a gymnast is making a comeback.

    How sad that they made her Barbie doll to be completely unrepresentative of her actual physique, making it yet another unrealistic rail-skinny illusion for girls to then compare themselves to and feel less-than if they don't look like that. Laurie's body is beautiful -- why can't they make a doll that shows it as it really is??

    • @Adam-bq2vw
      @Adam-bq2vw 5 лет назад

      johnsw71 Life isn’t fair. Some guys are born with subdued chins, narrow shoulders, or wide hips, but no one is wondering why there aren’t Ken dolls made in their likeness.

    • @YoMamaIsSweet
      @YoMamaIsSweet 4 года назад

      Well to be frank, she was never the “Barbie doll” figure. She is a woman of short stature and a very powerful body. You can’t look feminine and girly while doing the physical activity she does. But you’re right, I feel like the manufacturers at Barbie didn’t want to make a whole new doll and go into production because it would’ve costed them more money so it was bad all together

    • @sandyg.3454

      Lilly Alberts Hi Lily, I didn’t interpret the questions in that way.
      I’ve been watching Gymnastics and Ice Skating for over 50 years.
      I remember these same questions being asked to young women who began competing before puberty and afterwards.
      The female athlete grows taller, gain weight by naturally becoming a woman...
      There’s a difference that takes place and adjustments have to be made.
      I remember when gymnast Nadia Comaneci competed before puberty and won medals and the famous 10’s.
      I remember Nadia competing after puberty as well but even she acknowledged how her body changed and it wasn’t as easy as before puberty.
      She had to adjust to being taller, heavier than when she was a little girl.
      I believe this is what they were trying to ask Laurie.

    • @heatherpenn5675
      @heatherpenn5675 5 лет назад +6

      I didn't feel it was offensive to her. They were curious because her body did change from puberty and many gymnasts over the years have said their center of gravity changes when they grow and hit puberty. It's an honest question. Didn't feel offensive to me. She was a girl and now she's more womanly. No big deal.She's got this.

    • @greeneyes12346
      @greeneyes12346 5 лет назад +1

      Lilly Alberts they were asking legitimate questions since she hit puberty after the Olympics training has changed a lot for her.

    • @greeneyes12346
      @greeneyes12346 5 лет назад +1

      Heather Penn exactly. I hit the beginning stages of puberty at 12 and then by about 16 my center of gravity changed when I had to slow my training down due to two back to back injuries. My hormone levels changed due to I wasn’t able to work out my 20-25 hours a week so my body developed more and that one to two inches was a huge difference, those extra few pounds across my upper body, extra few in my bottom and hips made a difference.
      Everyone seems to forget gymnastics and high intensity training can change your hormones. Dancers and gymnast are known to be “late bloomers” when it comes to periods. Diet and exercise place a huge roll in the sports because when your hips widen, your period comes, your breast get bigger it changes your balance, the way your joints move, the lines your body makes, the way you muscles stretch, also mentally it changes things.

  • @mckendraray4341
    @mckendraray4341 5 лет назад +6

    She's not going to be on the next Olympic team. Get real. The only reason Gabby and Aly were able to make a comeback is because they worked hard to get back into shape for *two* *years.* Not to mention they had years of experience competing at different meets and in international competitions. Laurie has had zero and she's just now returning... and she said she's only training like 4 hours a day? That's not going to work. Aly trained so hard to the point where she couldn't even drive herself home from practice. And there was even a point where she questioned if she was good enough to make a second Olympic team. I just don't feel Laurie is going to be able to keep up now with every other girl who wants a spot on that 2020 team. I wish her the best but I'm afraid she's going to end up like Nastia who tried to make a comeback after being gone for so long and ended up getting trampled by girls who were years younger and better than she was.

    I loved her in 2016 as she was really the only "artistic" gymnast on the team. It is unfortunate that only 4 people can compete on the team. The rules are different for 2020 so up to 6 can go - but two have to qualify as individual event specialist. That is why 2 of the better gymnasts opted out of the 2018 world championships. As if you compete on the team this year - your can't qualify as an event specialist.

    I think she seems like a really sweet girl but her getting a spot on the 2020 Olympics seems unrealistic. 3-4 hours of training a day is not going to cut it, especially for gymnastics. You look at some of the girls who had trained 40 or more hours a week who never made an Olympic team. It's 2019 and she's just stating back now. She also didn't seem to do anything impressive in Rio, not to mention she has very little experience in international meets. I'm just afraid that she will pull a Nastia. She'll be 20 years old and being beat by the younger girls. Probably focusing on College gymnastics would be more practical.
