Darcy Bussell was (recently retired) a prima ballerina with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden and is a judge on Strictly. She obviously never took part in the competition - this was a demonstration dance which is why you have all the elements.

The dance is pretty provocative, the lift at 1.14 is rather risque, where her knickers are visible and so is the one at 1.42 where her skirt comes falling down and her derriere is almost visible. Is this acceptable for a married woman with kids to perform such a sensual dance in public with another man in British society? This is not meant to be a disrespectful question, rather it is born out of curiosity and openmindedness. Social norms are diverse in this world and i wanted to know if it would be ok for her kids to see their mother being carried and twirled by a man in this state of dishabelle. I know the judges are well established and accomplished in the respective fields of expertise but it is great to have the chance to see one of those on the judging panel also dancing. A great performance..

saw a lot of rumba in there but im pretty sure there was a bit of everything...absolutely amazing ... now thats what i call a showdance... wish she would do some more dancing in the result shows or something i could watch her forever. .beautiful doesnt do her justice. ..
This is incredible. One of my favourite songs of all time and one of my favourite, if not my favourite dancer of all time. So elegant, so beautiful, such great lifts. If I was a judge, that would have been an 11 for me. I love Darcey so much and I think she's amazing. She rocks. She is one of my biggest inspirations and I jusr adore her. This was the dance the I am sure earned her some SERIOUS respect in the Ballroom. She is a prima ballerina and deserved respect regardless but there is a HUGE difference between Ballroom and Ballet. The pro dancers gave Alesha (Whom Darcey replaced) some serious crap cause she wasn't trained professionally. This dance showed that Darcey can take on ANY pro and come out on top. I love Darcey and am so glad she is a judge. This dance was a true American Smooth for those who don't get it. I loved ever second of it.
I had the pleasure of seeing her as the Principle Ballerina when I was in my early teens. Amazingly talented. Watching this tho you can tell that Ballet is her primary disipline simply by the way she holds herself and uses her arms but still absolutely beautiful. Gutted I had to stop dancing she was one of my icon's.

American Smooth has nothing to do with the latin dances, it can be based on any of the five ballroom dance styles - waltz, VW, quickstep, foxtrot or tango. This is a fabulous routine but it's technically a showdance not American Smooth.

A beautiful dance by the talented couple. Loved the synergy and passion between them. The climax was at 1.41, when he lifts Darcey on his shoulders, her legs danging upwards and then hem of her dress falling down. What a sexy lift, and what a daring show....
I love that Ian put elements of everything in there, a little Paso, some rumba, tango floor work, spotted a samba roll at the end; I would call this a showdance more than American smooth, but beautiful nonetheless.

with refernce to ckwan1, the american smooth can be danced using any of the ballroom dances, and they are allowed two lifts. even though this was clearly an exhibition dance, ian kept to the regulations. the dances i picked up were: paso doble, tango, rhumba, foxtrot hold. hope this helps and doesn't sound condescending as that isn't how it is meant. :)

Was it an American Smooth? Looked more like a Rumba than an American Smooth to me though... Did she slip on 00:53 and 00:55? Apart from that, it was a beautiful dance

The pro dancers are all good on Strictly, but Darcey takes it to another level and she doesn't even seem to be trying!

She's such a good dancer, makes all dancing look so easy. She trained for a long time with the ballet company, it always looks very nice and graceful.

An American Smooth can incorporate any ballroom and Latin steps. This dance had beautiful paso, tango and rumba lines.
