Ollie, another enjoyable watch. The Nantwich Civil War reenactment reminded me of the Battle of Gettysburg reenactment of the American Civil War. The reenactors from Nantwich and Gettysburg have such passion in what they do, while keeping history alive. Also, it's nice to see all those people/families outside enjoying life. mike
How did I not know about this? It's within visiting distance for me so hopefully next year I'll be there. Great video Ollie and a great advertisement for the town. Thanks.
Good piece of work. Nantwich is an example of how a small commemorative event can flourish with the enthusiasm of participants and local supporters. Percy Curry back in 1963 attempted to re-establish the memory of the forgotten heroes of the siege and battle of Nantwich by laying a wreath at the war memorial, but it was not until 1971 that support developed, following his talk to the newly formed Nantwich Historical Society. Andy Gillitt approached the Chairman of Nantwich Historical Society (Herbert Rowsell) and offered to involve some Sealed Knot members in their period dress. The offer was accepted and at short notice he brought three Royalists, three Parliamentarians and three ladies to attend the ceremony. The first re-enactment took place in 1973 at Barony Fields. Since then it has grown to be a must-do for many of us in the Knot, with people coming from all over the country to participate. This is an excellent introduction to the day - and not just because for once I saw myself! Well done. Perhaps come back next year and see some of the other acticities based around the museum and show the memorial event in the Square and the presentation of the Rose Bowl to the best unit on the day - a unique Nantwich element.
I went through Nantwich on a narrow boat a few years ago, and was told about this yearly battle reenactment! Looks like a lot of fun, and I’m glad you’ve covered it for us to enjoy!
Nicely done! 👍🏻 I read the first shot to be fired in English civil war was on Salford Bridge (now Victoria Bridge) over the river Irwell between the Royalists (Salford) and the Parliamentarians (Manchester)
Natasha and Debbie recommended your channel and from what I have seen they know their stuff. Fascinating videos, love the historical ones and also the humour 🤣
Joined you from Natasha and Debbie. Lots in British history I enjoy but I am interested in the ECW having studied it at uni. Excellent video and now subscribed.
Reenactment, LARPing, just enjoying yourself. You should visit Visby Medieval Week! I make it almost two weeks as I have to visit all my friends on the island. It's the best week(s) of the year! Singing, drinking, having the best people around you, and wearing my most expensive clothes (and most comfortable), and then only half remembering what you did. Wonderful! And you should try it.
Hello Ollie I was there that day if I had of seen you I would of said Hi , some friends of mine just live over the the river from mill island and when the cannons are let off off it shakes their house , they hate it ! .
Perhaps this is how to bring the history of steam to life. Convince some one that those early engines need to be demonstrated where steam railways began if only for one day a year to start with.
I'm on screen at 2:56 with my hat & pipe!

Thanks mate, yeah I've seen the Gettysburg reenactment online and it looks like something unmissable.
We have so much history,so many past battles that has shaped our history and needs keeping alive❤❤

Thank you 😊

Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it. The history of the town is really fascinating.
Thanks, you gave a good account of the day. I have been going from Chester for 15 years now.
Just an add - the drums were the 17th century way of relaying orders. No ear pieces, radios or whatever then.🥁
Another great video, I didn't know about this. Thanks, Ollie!

Yeah that's absolutely right! So interesting 🙂

Great vid! Nantwich isn't that far from home...perhaps I'll get to go and watch this sometime! 🙂
I’m here because of Natasha and Debbie.
As an American, it’s kindove different to hear another Civil War be called the Civil War.
Hadn't thought of it like that. To us yours is The AMERICAN Civil War and this is just THE Civil War.
Not everything revolves around America. Weird as that may seem to you ;)
Maybe check out the history of Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Finnish Civil Wars, and others.
Now you know how it feels
17th century was so cool
great vid Ollie - interesting about Nantwich - I hadn't heard of the Holly holy day and the reenactment- great stuff like!
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic
Awesome! You know I have never heard of this event and hopefully will get there next year. Thanks for another great video. Top marks. ❤👍
You should! Definitely worth the visit
@@BeeHereNowukYep, I have it marked in my calendar. 😊👍
Nice one Ollie....got me quite home sick for minute there. Thanks mate!
Glad you enjoyed it. You should make it next year!
Thanks for covering the 1644 Battle of Nantwich annual re-enactment.

Yeah that would have been fun. I like meeting people who watch that videos. Was a great day out
Also a new subscriber from Natasha & Debbie Show
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video!
lived theere in 1971/72 and don't recall the event. The chap you were talking to in the red looks very familiar. Alex who? If you can say, of course.
1971 was the first commemorative wreath laying by a handful of society members. 1973 was the first full-blown battle event or muster as we call them
Sorry I didn't catch his last name. Very lovely man though with a great in depth knowledge of the civil war.
Congrats on being officially "Press"! Thanks for covering this 😃
Thanks Johannes! 😄
I also like your idea of covering more of these annual events!
(and let's rock the weekly challenge again 😁)
Didn't think Bee Here Now is returning to RUclips seeing that it's now February
It was over what tea was best, tetley will always be the best
Excellent vid press reporter Ollie. Can you say why you'd been disinterested by this period in Britain's history?
Thanks for watching it. Yes, I've just always liked other history better and the civil war always seemed to pale in comparison.
Perhaps this is how to bring the history of steam to life. Convince some one that those early engines need to be demonstrated where steam railways began if only for one day a year to start with.
That's a great idea!
Look up Bolton Road Station in Bury. There's always something going on there from all the ages of the railway.
I think if I'd been in the civil war I wouldn't have found it fun. Civil wars are always very bloody. And isn't Nantwich just the posh end of Crewe?
Crewe was only a hamlet in 1644:-)
Actually it's February already, not January 😂
Not many smiles during a battle, just horror, blood and body parts 😮
Promo*SM 😏
i dont think so, PEOPLE IN THOSE DAYS WERE NOT THAT FAT ??
