I'm SOOOOO loving your cornrows. I've been a protective style natural since the beginning of last year. Hair really grows when you do less. 90% of the time my hair is in flat twists every 2 to 3 weeks. I'll be 6 years natural this December. I'm currently APL/BSL plus the lower back of my hair is pretty much touching waist length. Occasionally I'll do mini twists. They take FOREVER but it gives me something different other than flat twists.
Joining this challenge!!! Hair is newly washed and moisturizer!! Im ready!! This is really going to be a challenge for me (3 months) but I’m going to do my best!
The cornrows are a million times cooler 🤩 They accentuate your bone structure, features and skin tone so much more nicely than the wig. Why can't black women just dump the weaves and wigs all together...it's the 21st century let's move forward please and just be our natural beautiful selves 🤷🏿♀️🤩
I totally get you 😂 and don’t get me wrong I absolutely love my cornrows and adore my natural hair. When I wear I wig I’m not trying to be anything other than myself. Wigs have just helped me grow my hair long and this will make more sense during the course of this protective style challenge.
@@ImBonnieM Thanks for replying and each to their own. I have long natural hair too which I have been growing since I was 18 years old. I have never worn wigs or weave in my life and my hair has always grown nicely. I went natural for political reasons to free myself from anglocentric beauty standards which oppress us collectively as black women. I am now completely free and comfortable in my own skin and weaves and wigs on black women just look weird to me. Also it's much healthier to allow air to get to your scalp. You have beautiful natural hair and I think it communicates a sad message that even when we have natural hair that's healthy and long, some how at some point black women go back to the weaves and wigs that are not our natural texture. We are the only race to do this and it makes women of other races feel superior. Let's just stop this and have the conviction to resist. In the end it is an amazing process of self development, self awareness and growth resulting in complete peace and radiant black beauty.
However, to add that although I hate wigs and weaves, it's still much less damaging than relaxers which contain the most horrendous carcinogenic chemical substances increasing our risk of cancer. I mostly blame black celebrities and mainstream public figures for not leading by example for young black women, as well as the deep rooted colonial mentality of most black men. If black men celebrated black women and appreciated the beauty of natural hair, I think there would be much less pressure on us to artificially conform to eurocentric standards of beauty.
I hear what you are saying and I am not disagreeing with it. I use a wig for technical reasons of hair growth but from a perception perspective I have no control other than to explain. But I appreciate the engagement. It’s good discourse and thats what we as black women need.
