I remember seeing an interview with him and he said he cried every day for a year. He kept expecting her to appear from around the corner. One of his childhood memories is when his mother died. His father stayed strong in front of everyone but one day he heard his father crying alone in the room next to him. People forget that he is human just like the rest of us.

I met Paul and Linda McCartney at Billboard Magazine in 1972- 9000 Sunset LA. My Uncle Peter Heine was director of advertising for Billboard. Paul and Linda were there to sign the advertising agreement for Wings first album that had the 007 soundtrack for Live and Let Die on it. After introducing me to Paul and Linda Peter asked if the three of us could keep each other company while he went down the hall and made a correction to the contract. He said it was going to take him about 15 minutes. We said sure and Peter went down the hall. So I was left alone with Paul and Linda McCartney at the top floor of 9000 Sunset in the southern conference room. I was alone with Paul and Linda for about 15 minutes looking out the window at Los Angeles. Paul and Linda were an elegant couple and their manners were fantastic. I was 13 years old and they treated me like a grown up. It was just like talking to some friends of my Uncle's in the living room. Later that day on my way home with my Uncle Peter asked me how I liked Paul and Linda. I said "They seem like regular people to me." My Uncle replied "They are regular people with exceptional jobs." Thank you for your kindness Paul I haven't forgotten. Take care and be well.

I am here all alone and still expect to see him lying beside me. I call his name, knowing he won't be coming. He suffered so much but was so sure he could beat it and stay here with me. The treatments were so hard on his mind and body that I am glad he is out of that pain now. I will love him forever. We were together for 47 years and I cherish the memory of every one!!

She was 52, I was 54, we had all the usual plans for when we retired, as we'd paid off the mortgage, the 'kids' had left home, it was going to be our time. It is bloody hard. My son and daughter were fantastic. We became a sort of mutual support group, and still are. Time does heal, but it doesn't make it any easier. Good to hear Paul talk about it👍

In time the pain softens, the heart doesn't ache with longing and you can breathe again but you do not ever forget. I found my strong grief for my mother to be surrealistic and horrifically paralysing and also mesmerisingly beautiful. I felt cocooned by invisible spirits close by to soften the blows of painful reality as the weeks, months, years wore on. Nothing made sense but it was all perfect because it was just for me to ponder my mother. No intruders. Totally self absorbing and true.

Unfortunately, loss of a loved one is a part of life. Knowing this doesn’t make it any easier to live with or to accept. Paul, like all of us, has suffered a lot of loss in his life. He lost his beloved Mom at an early age; he lost his very special Dad; I’m sure he’s lost other close family members; he lost his band mates through a type of divorce; and then he lost John and George, both to premature deaths.
All of these losses are painful. Each one of them hurts, but I think, the biggest hurt that never seems to heal, is the loss of “the love of your life”. The love of your life (your heart’s desire, the who “holds the other key to me” as Paul sang in “My Love”) is like the death of the deepest part of you. It never goes away. You carry it with you daily. You never stop missing her. But as sad as you are, you have to keep moving and breathing and functioning no matter how much you miss her. You have to do it for yourself and for those around you who depend upon you for strength and courage and leadership because they’re hurting too, and it breaks your heart to see their suffering. So you try to find purpose or positive, not self destructive “distractions” to help you make it through each day.
This interview with Paul is like a course on grief and on how to cope with it. I have been a huge Paul McCartney fan for years. I love his music and the genius of his creativity both musically and lyrically. I am also a huge fan of the man he is. He’s levelled headed and an extraordinary regular guy. He’s wise and mature, and I highly respect him. For years, Paul has been holding up a sign that reads, “follow me”. I don’t want to be Paul McCartney, but I do want to learn from the example he sets.
    Thanks Paul!

I don't think of time's healing as forgetfulness. Rather, I think that life's demands intervene and that space our loved one inhabited in our lives recedes naturally. It is difficult to allow this to happen and we cling to the memories, even to the grief if it will extend the slightest contact with the deceased beloved. Grief is hard work and often needs the help of others who can accompany the walking on we all must do. Gratitude helps and faith is a tremendous gift.

That man who claimed that Linda said these things in an interview was an embittered cookbook writer who had a huge grudge to grind because he felt he had been bested in a business deal with McCartney related to Linda's cookbooks and frozen foods. Paul himself didn't carry money back in those days. He and Linda neither of them carried money. They were sort of living a hippie life at the time. There is a story Paul was buying his children ice cream once and he realized he had no cash. Someone else paid for it. His fashion designer daughter Stella said she had to earn her own money to buy new clothes, so she learned to make her own. This in turn made her a huge success. This was Paul and Linda both - it was how they wanted to live. People who value money and objects just didn't get it. They expected to see comfort and luxury and saw the usual chaos of a family of modest means with four children. Linda used to joke about how little she cared about objects, and she wasn't at all house proud. Now that Paul is with a different woman, he lives a far more affluent lifestyle. This reenforces the fact that it was Linda who preferred the stripped down lifestyle more than Paul.

@@E-Kat Linda was from a wealthy family. Her father was an extremely successful lawyer and literary agent. She was also a beneficiary of her mother's trust fund (her mother came from a wealthy family herself), and so Linda had plenty of money of her own. She didn't need to ask Paul for money. She and Paul chose to walk around without cash. I think they got a kick out of it. To say she was "always" borrowing money is ridiculous, and you have no evidence to support that claim. You obviously have some kind of hostility towards Paul, but that woman wanted for nothing. It is cruel to say that Paul was mean to this woman that he loved so much. As for the Stones, well, Mick Jagger is about as stingy as they come - he is infamous for it - so fans who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
