Thanks for the great podcast and sharing your wisdom, Cal! I’d like to add - David Allen’s GTD methodology originates from a fundamentally different mindset, if my interpretation is correct. It implicitly accepts, for the moment, the symptoms of the hyperactive hive mind that are experienced by knowledge workers. The GTD system makes use of your time in the day or week where you have the mental space and energy level to tactically plan how to tackle the hyperactive hive mind with all its things/tasks/projects, so that your system will work during your states of low mental space and energy. The idea is you will be effective and efficient enough so that you can (1) carve out more time and mental space for work with higher value over the longer term e.g. writing a book, creative projects, career planning; (2) maintain control of tasks and projects to allow a higher elevation view and thus strategic planning for your functions, roles, life, etc.; and (3) relax, rest, play, etc. with the peace of mind that your system is working. Cal starts from a place of trying to transcend the hyperactive hive mind and, before one can fully do that, reduce its impact on us. Different from I think the two will meet at a sufficiently high elevation.
I know it would add overhead, but it would be so nice to have visual examples for these concepts, even if over simplified.
