PROGRAM NOTE:
This sonata has two movements, this stormy 1st and the angelic and profound 2nd.
As with most of Beethoven's late sonatas, fugal elements could be found throughout the movement. Pianistically speaking, this movement is a little awkward to play.
For those who have learned the Chopin’s second sonata and the revolutionary etude, this 1st movement shares many similarities with them (or rather, Chopin's pieces are similar to this movement), notably with the diminished 7th leap down in the beginning, and the resemblance of Op. 111’s ending with the Chopin’s revolutionary etude.
